Chapter 719: Chapter 315: Iron Chains, Pressure Cooker_1

Since ancient times, there have been temples on the mountain, either in the pursuit of tranquility or for suppressing demons. There couldn’t really be a demon beneath this mountain, could there?

Qin Shou was still muttering to himself when the abyss began to devour the temple.

Just then, a loud bell sounded from within the temple, followed by the sound of monks chanting scriptures. The sky was filled with flying scriptures that intertwined to form a magnificent temple!

Qin Shou took one look and, sure as his guess had been, it really was a gigantic temple resembling a pagoda!

From Qin Shou’s perspective, the pagoda was incredibly vast, straddling the low mountain like a shell!

"Shell?" Qin Shou stroked his chin, his eyes narrowing unconsciously.

After all, the ancient scriptures of the temple failed to stop the advance of the abyss, and quickly the temple was swallowed by darkness, the sound of chanting and the golden scripture temple vanished as well.

It was at this moment that Qin Shou slapped his thigh and exclaimed, "I got it! This TM isn’t a snake! No, wait, it is a snake!"

Having said that, Qin Shou drew the shape of the low mountain in midair. It clearly resembled a python lying in the grass, resting with its head forward. But with the addition of the temple, the temple became a huge turtle shell resting on its back!

Looking at it from another angle, it had a tongue, a snake tail, a turtle shell—it clearly resembled the image of the Black Tortoise!

"Damn it, the Black Tortoise! This is really suppressing something!" Qin Shou exclaimed as it dawned on him.

Thinking back to the skeletons everywhere, Qin Shou had a bold guess: those skeletons might have been killed by something beneath the mountain!

As if to answer Qin Shou’s question,

a crisp rattling sound erupted.

The sound seemed like that of clanking iron chains.

Then, Qin Shou saw the abyss, like a startled cat, suddenly leap up and break away from the low mountain!

Qin Shou finally saw the current state of the low mountain under the darkness.

Looking at it, the temple had been swallowed by darkness, and the low mountain remained mostly unchanged, but its tail end, where the abyss first pounced, was broken off a good chunk!

Below that section was a deep pit!

At a glance, the low mountain placed against the earth resembled a huge coffin. The low mountain was like the coffin lid, now it appeared as if someone had broken or pushed open a section, revealing what was inside the coffin!

Unable to resist his curiosity, Qin Shou craned his neck to peer inside.

Clang!

Another sound of clashing iron chains echoed.

The abyss seemed to hesitate—it was eager to continue feasting on the low mountain, yet it also seemed to fear whatever was inside the dark coffin.

"My Cao, you’re a Great Golden Immortal and you’re still so timid?" Qin Shou taunted the abyss.

The abyss paid no heed to Qin Shou; in fact, it seemed as if it had never paid attention to Qin Shou at all!

The first time they met, the abyss had said just one thing, "So you were here," and then it went to swallow those dragon-headed creatures. When Qin Shou ran away, it did nothing to stop him. Or perhaps it had intentionally let Qin Shou go because it wanted him to lead the way, to find more food!

The second time they met, the abyss merely repeated mechanically, "So you were here," and then it went in search of food.

Qin Shou now had a bold idea: the abyss might not possess any intelligence at all. Instead, it was something... akin to Heavenly Tribulation or Karma, a natural phenomenon existing between Heaven and earth.

It moved purposefully, swallowing, but seemed to lack consciousness even when it interacted with people.

As Qin Shou was pondering over the abyss, there was suddenly movement from within the coffin, and a silver-white chain shot up into the air!

Seeing this, the abyss turned tail and ran like a rat upon seeing a cat!

Just then, the void cracked open, and countless chains burst forth from the fissure, swiftly binding the abyss tightly and then dragging it towards the black hole!

Witnessing this, Qin Shou exclaimed with an incredulous look on his face, "Damn, these chains can actually bind the abyss? How do they do that?"

Qin Shou remembered clearly that all his measures had failed to touch the abyss, yet these chains could...

He suddenly felt like his brain couldn’t quite keep up.

At that moment, the abyss was like a young playboy who had visited the brothel, forcibly dragged away by a group of mature women. No matter how hard he struggled, crying out "I won’t go," he was still pulled in.

Then Qin Shou heard a series of strange roars coming from inside the dark coffin. The sound wasn’t loud but instilled an overwhelming sense of terror!

It was a feeling unique in Qin Shou’s experience, a warning from the soul as if to say: "Stay away, keep your distance! Whatever’s inside is terrifying!"

Instinctively, Qin Shou backed away, but just then, a silver chain shot out from the coffin straight at Qin Shou!

Frightened, Qin Shou turned to run, but the chain was too fast. Before he could turn around, it was already in front of him!

Qin Shou was so scared that he dared not move.

The chain moved like a venomous snake, swaying in front of Qin Shou as if sizing him up or pondering something.

"Hey... hi, have you eaten?" Qin Shou asked with a tremble in his voice.

After speaking, Qin Shou immediately regretted it. Wasn’t that just reminding the other party to check if they had eaten? If it was full, it might spare him. But what if it was hungry? Was that an invitation for it to feast?

While Qin Shou was debating whether to hit it with a brick and then make a run for it, there came a clattering sound from behind him, as if stones were tumbling down a mountain.

The chain looked over in that direction, and Qin Shou quietly turned, preparing to make a break for it.

Just then, another chain appeared in front of Qin Shou. Even though it had no eyes, Qin Shou felt that it was probably staring at him.

"Big brother, you’re just a chain. Just munch on some dark energy and leave me be. What are you staring at me for?" Qin Shou said with a sob in his voice.

While speaking, Qin Shou felt something pat his behind twice. Whirling around, he saw another chain that had just pulled away, obviously having harassed him.

Instinctively, Qin Shou cried out, "What are you doing?"

The chain quivered but ultimately made no sound. However, its every move seemed to suggest, "Quite a bit of meat there."

Qin Shou never thought he’d be flirted with by a chain one day! Angered, he pointed at the chain and said, "You lousy piece of chain want to eat meat? Do you even know how?"

Then Qin Shou saw the void split open once more, and another chain reached through, holding a pot in its grasp!

Looking at the pot, it seemed to be a pressure cooker!

PS: Damn, damn, damn, I was almost scared to death by the thunder. A bolt crashed right above me, feeling like the lightning almost reached the window! Scared the hell out of me... good thing I posted before midnight. I better shut down the computer and take cover.
