Chapter 500: Chapter 113: The Ruse of Self-Injury_1
Qin Shou’s heart skipped a beat and he asked, "Do you two have something to say?"
Before they could respond, a roaring shout came from the Punishing Division, "Scram!"
The sound was deafening, and Qin Shou instinctively rubbed his ears, saying, "That voice sounds unfamiliar; it doesn’t seem to be Wei Zheng’s, does it?"
Black Impermanence gave a wry smile and said, "That was Zhong Kui."
White Impermanence added, "Lord Rabbit, the conflict between Wei Zheng and Zhong Kui is even greater than the one between the Judicial Division and Wei Zheng. If you send him over, this matter is basically doomed."
Indeed, as soon as the words were spoken, Qin Shou saw Wei Zheng return with an embarrassed and shamefaced look, who on entering said, "That brute Zhong Kui, he’s so rude, insulting people the moment he opens his mouth; no culture! No quality! No upbringing!"
Hearing this, Qin Shou couldn’t help but say, "Sir, don’t you think that what Zhong Kui just said sounded particularly familiar?"
Wei Zheng was startled, then his face flushed with embarrassment, and he said angrily, "Get lost, get lost, I’ve helped you as much as I can. Call me for a fight, but for anything else, you’re on your own."
Helpless, Qin Shou had no choice but to lead Black and White Impermanence towards the Punishing Division.
Having learned from the previous incident, Qin Shou quickly asked, "How do you two stand with Zhong Kui?"
Black and White Impermanence immediately replied, "He usually doesn’t scold us."
Qin Shou nodded in satisfaction.
Then they added, "He hits us the moment he sees us."
Qin Shou pointed to the distance and said, "Scram!"
The two of them immediately slinked away, but after taking only a few steps, they seemed to feel a little embarrassed. After all, the rabbit was undertaking a legitimate task — helping brave warriors who defended their home and country to retrieve their souls and be reincarnated, which was definitely a virtuous deed.
Moreover, they had seen the warriors of Fenghuo City, each and every one of them true heroes. They might not possess earth-shattering magical powers, but in terms of spirit, they had surpassed far too many others.
Although Black and White Impermanence were irreverent, they still held great respect for these heroic spirits.
So, after walking only a few steps, they looked at each other, sighed, and turned back to say, "Lord Rabbit, is there really nothing we can help with?"
Qin Shou was racking his brains for a solution. Hearing them say this, his eyes lit up and he said, "You can help, but it’s up to you whether you’re willing or not."
They looked at Qin Shou with puzzled eyes, and he leaned in and whispered a few words to them.
Initially, they shook their heads frantically, but then they heard the rabbit say, "Do you two really have the heart to watch those heroic souls dissolve into oblivion?"
They gave a wry smile and asked, "Isn’t there any other way?"
Qin Shou said, "There is, there definitely is."
Their eyes brightened again, and they looked at Qin Shou pitifully, awaiting further instructions.
Qin Shou said, "It’s just that I can’t think of a solution."
The two were at a loss. After all the talk, the rabbit still had no solution?
In the end, they both nodded in agreement, took a deep breath, and shouted, "Run!"
Zhong Kui drove off Wei Zheng but still felt somewhat disgruntled as he grumbled, "Don’t come over again, or don’t blame me for not being polite!"
As he was cursing, he saw two figures, one black and one white, rushing over with wails. Zhong Kui frowned, ready to act, but then a bundle of white light descended from the sky with a loud roar: "Black and White Impermanence, where do you think you’re going!"
In the midst of speaking, a rabbit descended from the sky, stepping on Black and White Impermanence, and fell right at Zhong Kui’s doorstep with a loud thud! It scared countless ghosts into jumping back more than a hundred meters! All of them looked on in shocked uncertainty at the scene before them, only to see a rabbit standing on Black and White Impermanence, pummeling them with a barrage of punches and kicks!
As Qin Shou hit, he scolded, "For neglecting your duties! For neglecting your duties! When I return to the Heavenly Court, I’ll surely file a complaint against you, and have you all thrown out of the Netherworld!"
Amid their piteous wailing and pleas for mercy, Black and White Impermanence begged, "Travel God, please spare our lives, we won’t dare to do it again... Please show us mercy."
"Show you mercy?" Qin Shou said sternly, "Then who showed those who died unjustly any mercy? Today I’ll beat you until you can’t take care of yourselves. Next time, I will make your souls scatter!"
Qin Shou continued the beating, with Black and White Impermanence’s eyes rolling white and their ghostly forms trembling chaotically, as if they were about to explode.
Zhong Kui had initially wanted to shout angrily, but upon seeing this spectacle, he broke into laughter, stepped forward, and said with clasped hands, "This fellow... Daoist, are you a Heavenly God?"
Qin Shou looked up, asked arrogantly, "Indeed, I am an Official God of the Heavenly Court, also known as the Daynight Wandering God. And you are?"
Zhong Kui burst into hearty laughter, "I am the Judge of the Punishing Division in the Netherworld, Zhong Kui. Your beating... it was well-deserved, absolutely just!"
"Oh? What do you mean by that?" asked Qin Shou.
Zhong Kui pointed to the Judicial Division across the way and said, "Right across is the Judicial Division. That judge, Cui Jue, is nothing good; he has frequently committed acts of partiality and injustice. If you have time, go investigate him." He then pointed to the Rewarding Division and added, "That’s the Rewarding Division, with the official Wei Zheng as its judge. Like Cui Jue, he also hails from the Tang Dynasty and still shows partiality to its people. As judges, if they are not impartial, how can they live up to the title? How can they qualify for positions in the Netherworld? You can also look into him when you get a chance."
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou immediately laughed, finding it somewhat amusing.
Although it’s true that Cui Jue of the Judicial Division had indeed done some whimsical things, Qin Shou wondered, in this world, who could ever be perfectly impartial?
Forget a judge; even Heaven and Earth never contemplated fairness! Fairness? That’s just a concept people have created... Consider the cosmos; even Saints, for their own interests, banded together to deal with the Tongtian Cult Master. With so many against one, did anyone consider fairness toward the Cult Master?
If even Saints couldn’t achieve fairness, how could one expect two mere judges to uphold it between Heaven and Earth? The idea is absurd.
However, it was clear that Zhong Kui thought himself just and hence looked down on the other two colleagues.
Qin Shou didn’t want to argue with Zhong Kui over these matters, so he simply nodded and said, "Alright, once I’ve finished with what I’m handling, I’ll look into them."
Zhong Kui, hearing this, laughed and exclaimed, "Good! That is the righteousness of heaven and earth! I’ll wait for you!" After speaking, he curiously asked, "What’s this matter you’re handling anyway?"
Qin Shou promptly relayed the incident at Fenghuo City in full detail, though he omitted that it was Black and White Impermanence who led him there, saying only that he came across it by chance.
Zhong Kui, a man of fiery spirit, had his eyes redden instantly as he learned about the mortal warriors who spent their youth fighting for their homeland, growing old but still steadfastly holding the fort. He became livid when he heard that those old soldiers and the tenacious citizens didn’t perish by the hands of enemies but were instead killed by Spells, and he rose in a fit of rage, his beard and hair bristling as he shouted, "Scoundrels! Absolute scoundrels!"
