Rabbit Must Die

Chapter 484: Chapter 97: Changing Horses_1

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou’s brows furrowed deeply as he kicked the Nostalgia Stone under his feet, asking, "That’s too frustrating."

Black Impermanence said, "Bunny, you should be content. The Nostalgia Stone determines the viewing time based on the soul’s strength. Normally, an average ghost can only look for twenty breaths. Any longer, and they risk falling into a coma or even death due to excessive consumption of Soul Power. Your soul is very strong, but the limit for the Nostalgia Stone is the time it takes to burn half an incense stick. So, if you want to continue watching, better do it another day."

Qin Shou was still not content and tried a few more times. Seeing that the Nostalgia Stone really stopped working, he reluctantly stepped back.

As he walked away, Qin Shou glanced at the Ghost Messenger handing out bags of money and asked, "What are you doing?"

The Ghost Messenger, not sure of the Rabbit’s status but seeing Black and White Impermanence treating Qin Shou with utmost respect, replied respectfully, "I am charged with collecting joss paper that the relatives of ghosts from the Yang Realm burn and then distributing it to the corresponding spirits."

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou’s eyebrows shot up, "Are you sure you’re not the cashier for the Nostalgia Stone?"

Even now, Qin Shou thought the Nostalgia Stone worked like an internet cafe, where you could use it as long as you paid.

The minor official gave a bitter smile and then shook his head decidedly.

Qin Shou, still not satisfied, asked, "Then, do you have any for me?"

Lady Diyong said helplessly, "Bunny, you’re not dead, who would burn money for you?"

Indeed, the minor official shook his head, "Immortal, I can only collect money from the deceased. You’re still alive..."

Qin Shou disagreed, "Your business needs to expand, or else you’re hindering the economic development of the Netherworld."

After spouting some nonsense, Qin Shou walked away.

But the minor official smacked his lips and murmured, "Seems like he has a point, shame though. Like the Nostalgia Stone, I can’t collect any joss paper burned without sincerity or filial piety, let alone the casually burned ones... Sigh..."

Qin Shou didn’t hear these words and just quietly memorized the location of the Nostalgia Stone on the Nostalgia Altar, pondering whether he should find time to move the stone back home, so he could see Chang’e every day.

"Bunny, if you like it, I can go over later and carry the whole altar back home, then you can watch to your heart’s content, right?" Kui San said in his silly but incredibly loyal manner.

Qin Shou really wanted to say, "OK, go for it."

But glancing at the long line of ghosts and the people who cried their hearts out upon seeing their loved ones at the Nostalgia Altar, he ultimately sighed and muttered, "Forget it, I’ll come back tomorrow."

Hearing this, Li Zhenying breathed a sigh of relief and said, "They are poor souls after all..."

Qin Shou hummed a response and urged, "Hurry up!"

Upon hearing this, Black and White Impermanence were filled with grievances, thinking, ’Damn it, you were the one who told us to slow down, remember?’

What they didn’t know was that Qin Shou was also struggling internally. If he didn’t hurry away, he feared he wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation to carry the Nostalgia Altar away with him.

After passing the Nostalgia Altar, Qin Shou finally saw a grand and towering city. The huge city gates bore four large characters—Real Ghost Gate!

Qin Shou looked at it, rolled his eyes, and said with a sense of speechlessness, "This... Who the hell wrote this sign? Isn’t this just playing the fool?"

"It’s a plaque bestowed by the Jade Emperor," White Impermanence replied.

Qin Shou suddenly felt awkward, but the moment he thought of the Jade Emperor suddenly running off and sending over a moron like Gouchen, which resulted in him being separated from Chang’e, the awkwardness vanished without a trace, and he snorted, "What a moron indeed!"

Upon hearing this, both Black and White Impermanence’s legs went weak, and they almost knelt down. The way they looked at Qin Shou was filled with doubt for the first time. After all, in their eyes, the Jade Emperor was the most awesome figure in Heaven, on Earth, and across the Three Realms. Not to mention cursing the Jade Emperor, they wouldn’t even dare think about it, for fear of being sensed by him and tossed into the eighteen layers of hell for a bit of sadistic pleasure.

Standing in front of the Ghost Gate were two burly men, one with the head of a bull and the other with the head of a horse. Each held a steel pitchfork, and they looked ominously at every ghost that passed by. However, when they saw Black and White Impermanence coming their way, one with a chain and the other with a tongue, pulling a big cauldron that didn’t look at all like a chariot, their ominous gazes instantly turned to blank stares.

After staring for a long time, they finally came back to their senses and shouted, "Qi, Eight, what is this... a career change?"

Qi and Eight were the nicknames given by mortals to Black and White Impermanence when they worked at the local City God Temple. In the hierarchy of the City God’s subordinates, they were ranked seventh and eighth, hence the people called them Lord Qi and Lord Eight.

However, in the Netherworld, such ranking obviously didn’t apply, but everyone still liked to jokingly call them Qi and Eight.

White Impermanence gave Bull Head and Horse Face a look and said, "What are you staring at? This is the Daynight Wandering God from the Heavenly Court. He is coming down to inspect the Netherworld, and we are just leading the way."

Horse Face laughed and said, "I’ve met the Daynight Wandering Gods before. Night Wandering Gods are just a bunch of bats, and Sun Wandering Gods are tall and skinny. Since when did it become a rabbit, two women, and a big dumb oaf?"

As soon as White Impermanence heard this, he burst into laughter and asked, "What did you say?"

Horse Face was about to speak when suddenly a big fist came flying towards him!

Horse Face exclaimed in astonishment, "Bring it on!"

Horse Face mustered all his strength and punched back!

Bull Head laughed heartily, "You brute, you’re seeking your own death!"

Bang bang!

The next moment, two dull thuds!

Then a bull head and a horse head were slung against the city wall, where they hung for a minute before slowly sliding down.

Before long, escorted by Black and White Impermanence, a vehicle pulled by one bull head and one horse face slowly entered the Ghost Gate. Crossing the Ghost Gate, Qin Shou then realized that the Ghost Gate was somewhat similar to the Southern Gate. After entering, it turned out to be a whole new world!

Instead of the empty, lifeless world he had expected, there were villages in the markets, small towns every hundred miles, everywhere was peace and harmony, wild animals running loose, children laughing, and if it weren’t for the lack of sun in the sky, Qin Shou would have believed he was in the Yang Realm.

"Bunny, want an apple?" White Impermanence offered an apple solicitously.

But Li Zhenying snatched it away, carefully wiped and washed it, then peeled it and asked the rabbit, "Bunny, want a bite?"

Qin Shou took it with relish and took a bite, "Hey, not bad at all."

White Impermanence said, "This is the latest variety cultivated in the Yin Realm, exclusively supplied, not available outside. Just this apple, if placed outside, would easily sell for a million each, and that’s if you can even find a buyer."

Upon hearing this, Qin Shou exclaimed in surprise, "A million? Spirit Crystals?"

White Impermanence said, "Spirit Crystals are the official hard currency. In the Yin Realm, we use Joss Paper. A million in Joss Paper isn’t much, but for many people, it’s not a small amount either. If it was taken out, it would fill a whole sack of yellow paper money. Enough for an ordinary ghost to live on for a month."

Qin Shou was astounded, "That expensive?"
