Chapter 117: Chapter 117: This ass-kissing..._1
Longhuai received the order, while Taitai Le’s face was filled with panic.
At that moment, Wenqu asked, "Qin Shou, what about you?"
Taitai Le immediately cried out, "I know, he knew he was going to be late and still didn’t take it seriously, dawdling along the way!"
Wenqu frowned and asked, "Rabbit, is this true?"
Qin Shou sighed, "Teacher, how could that be possible? I ran here as fast as smoke, using all the strength I could muster."
"How do we believe you?" Wenqu asked.
Qin Shou immediately took out a letter of proof given to him by the Fierce Beast Park’s God of Land and handed it to Wenqu. After reading it, Wenqu’s brow furrowed even tighter; someone was actually speaking up for the Rabbit! And they freaking praised the rabbit for being good-natured and not stealing... Wenqu wondered to himself: When did the Fierce Beast Park’s God of Land go blind?
Nonetheless, regardless of anything else, the letter mentioned Taitai Le’s attempt to smear Qin Shou. Wenqu glanced at Taitai Le, then back at Qin Shou, and made up his mind.
Taitai Le, not knowing what Qin Shou held, continued to shout, "Teacher, I’m telling the truth! I ran into him on the way here. I was running, but he was walking slowly, not in a hurry at all. He even wanted me to slow down and walk with him@"
Ultimately, Wenqu said indifferently, "Longhuai, give Taitai Le sixty heavy strikes for slandering a classmate—double the punishment for such a crime!"
Taitai Le was dumbstruck; what the hell was happening?
Longhuai patted Taitai Le and said, "Let’s go."
Taitai Le cried out, "I won’t accept this!"
Unfortunately, no one paid her any heed as Wenqu continued to question Qin Shou, "Why were you late?"
Qin Shou had initially intended to say he overslept, but since Taitai Le was dragged away for punishment, he had to come up with another excuse. So he cried out, "Last night, I fell into a deep sleep and had a dream. I dreamt that the Teacher was lecturing, and it was so good, so captivating. I couldn’t help myself, and I listened for a while longer, which made me late."
Upon hearing this, everyone was stupefied. No one believed what the damn rabbit said.
But everyone had to admit, he’d flattered quite impressively...
Sure enough, a hint of a smile appeared on Wenqu’s face.
Meanwhile, Taitai Le looked at Qin Shou with a face full of anger, as if to say, "How can you be so shameless? The teacher will certainly not fall for your trick! He will definitely not let you off!"
Then came a cold snort from Wenqu: "Longhuai, what are you waiting for? Take Taitai Le away for her punishment!"
Longhuai immediately responded, and then Wenqu spoke to Taitai Le with utmost seriousness, "In the future, learn a bit from the Rabbit. Be diligent and studious, don’t oversleep!"
Upon hearing this, Taitai Le’s eyes nearly popped out as she exclaimed, "This works too?! Teacher, don’t be fooled by this rabbit! Actually, I also came here listening to a lecture in my dream!"
"Crafting lies on the spot, deceiving your teacher—thirty more strikes!" Wenqu declared.
Longhuai received the order, with Taitai Le’s face full of grievance. Why, oh why? This wasn’t fair!
Nonetheless, she was still taken away by Longhuai.
Wenqu glanced at Qin Shou and said, "Rabbit, aren’t you going in to prepare for class?"
"Yes, sir!" Qin Shou immediately responded, and then he didn’t forget to give Taitai Le a cheerful wink, which infuriated Taitai Le so much she almost wished she could burn him to death.
Screams soon came over, and Qin Shou silently counted the number of ’smacks’ and ’ahs’, ninety of each. Afterward, Taitai Le came back, covering his buttocks and with an unwilling look on his face, then stood in front of Qin Shou like a deeply wronged little woman.
Qin Shou grinned and said with a smile, "Jiucai, don’t look at me like that, go ahead and take a seat."
Hearing the word ’sit’, Taitai Le started grinding his teeth. Sit? You want me to sit down after being whipped with ninety paddles?
In the end, Taitai Le didn’t sit, but stood there listening to the lesson.
Today, Wenqu seemed to have forgotten yesterday’s events, or perhaps he was scheming something; anyway, he behaved as if nothing had happened and continued with the lesson.
Wenqu didn’t continue lecturing about Confucius traveling east; instead, after thinking for a bit, he said, "Today, I’ll talk to you all about the principles of Heaven and Earth."
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou’s ears perked up. He wasn’t fond of listening to long-winded stuff, but he was very curious about this world.
Wenqu asked, "What is cultivation?"
Niu Dali replied, "To return to the teacher, I think cultivation is going against Heaven’s will, breaking the shackles of the world, becoming a god or an immortal, roaming freely."
The Rabbit, hearing this, nodded along. In his previous life, he had read many novels where the theory was generally this, so he had imperceptibly come to believe it too.
Upon hearing this, Wenqu immediately laughed and said, "Dali, what you’ve said is the common view of the mortals in the Earthly Immortal Realm. In their eyes, indeed, cultivation is going against Heaven. However, I must tell you, that is incorrect."
Niu Dali didn’t understand.
Wenqu continued, "Heaven and Earth are not benevolent and treat all creatures as stray dogs; it means that Heaven and Earth are fair to all beings, whether gods or mortals, they’re all seen as the life of stray dogs. So whether you become an immortal or stay mortal, in Heaven’s eyes, what’s the difference? Why would it stop you? If it doesn’t stop you, how can you be considered as defying Heaven?
Saints have said that Heaven has no intentions, no emotions, no feelings. Even saints in their greatest summer can’t claim to be much higher than stray dogs before Heaven. Thus, under the Heavenly Dao, there is freedom of the Heavenly Dao; why would it care about how much you cultivate? Hence, the human speak of contending with Heaven and challenging Earth is simply a one-sided wish."
Qin Shou was stunned on the spot hearing these words, but after thinking about it more carefully, it seemed to make sense indeed. Heavenly Dao hadn’t done anything; it didn’t bother with you or question you and just maintained its fundamental order. However, there was always a bunch of idiots shouting about defying Heaven, slaying Heaven, battling Heaven... Battle your brother-in-law! What business have you with Heaven? Heaven itself was wronged!
Niu Dali also accepted Wenqu’s explanation.
Wenqu said, "So, cultivation is not defying Heaven; on the contrary, cultivation is a process of understanding oneself, comprehending Heaven and Earth, and self-sublimation. We draw energy from Heaven and Earth, we comprehend the principles from Heaven and Earth, and we use the rules of those principles to exert power and achieve our goals. That is cultivation. Anyone who doesn’t understand can ask questions."
No sooner had he finished speaking than many hands shot up.
Wenqu felt a sense of accomplishment about today’s lecture; finally, it started to look like something substantial...
However, when Wenqu’s gaze swept over to the corner, his eyebrows immediately furrowed because everyone had raised their hands except for that damn rabbit, who remained indifferent. What, what he had taught hadn’t inspired him at all?
So Wenqu asked, "Qin Shou, do you have any questions?"
Qin Shou was taken aback, thinking to himself: has the teacher gone mad? He hadn’t raised his hand, so obviously he had no questions!
In fact, Qin Shou had a belly full of questions, but because his foundation was so poor, he didn’t know what to ask. It was like wanting to build a tank but barely being able to read. When the expert asks for your opinion, how could you give one? You’re utterly clueless!
