Chapter 75: Chapter 75 Wedding Countdown (4)_1
This is how people in business think; in the face of profit, they only think of themselves.
"Where are we going?" Rachel Bailey asked.
"You’ll know soon enough; it’s a secret for now." Julia Bluen laughed again. When she smiled, her attractive melon seed-shaped face lit up as if bathed in sunlight, dazzlingly brilliant, and her bright apricot eyes would curve into charming crescents.
Rachel Bailey didn’t press further but switched to another topic. The two chatted and laughed all the way as their car sped into the distance.
Twenty minutes later, Julia Bluen parked the car in front of Happiness Wedding Dress Studio. The studio was a five-story building, each floor covering three hundred square meters, and boasted a beautiful and elegant environment. The first floor served as the Reception Room, while the wedding dress displays began on the second floor and above.
Upon getting out of the car, Rachel Bailey saw through the clear, greenish glass windows the pure and beautiful wedding dresses adorning mannequins.
"Julia, wasn’t your wedding dress custom-made?" asked a somewhat puzzled Rachel Bailey. From what she had read in messages and novels, wealthy people always had their wedding dresses custom-made.
"It was custom-made, originally for my sister," Julia Bluen replied. She had already seen the dress, worth millions. It had been specially designed by Milan’s renowned wedding dress designer, Michael Rice-Able, at Glades Horne’s request. The dress was studded with pearls and gemstones, glittering profusely. It wasn’t just lavish; the design was elegant and tasteful, its style dignified yet fashionable. When worn, it showcased both classical and modern beauty—an exquisite wedding dress that combined the finest elements of past and present attire. Apparently, Michael Rice-Able only designed one wedding dress a year. Not everyone could wear his creations, which naturally meant the price was terrifyingly high.
The only thing she couldn’t understand was this: if Michael Rice-Able was a world-class designer, why was the dress longer than her sister’s height would require? If her sister wore it, the front of the skirt would be a bit too long. While the trailing train at the back wasn’t an issue, even such a small flaw marred the beauty of the entire gown. However, if she were to wear it now, it would fit perfectly, showcasing all the dress’s advantages.
"Are you going to wear it?" Rachel Bailey asked, a touch of indignation stirring in her heart for her friend. A sister substituting for another in marriage, and she even has to wear her sister’s wedding dress? Glades Horne seems so doting on Julia. How could he let her wear a dress specifically designed for her sister?
"Time is pressing. Everything else can be replaced immediately, except for the wedding dress, so I have no choice but to wear it. But, Rachel, that dress looks like it was made for my figure. I look at that dress and keep getting the strange feeling that Glades had it custom-made specifically for me, even though it was definitely made for my sister originally," Julia Bluen said, her tone puzzled, as she pulled Rachel Bailey by the hand towards the Photo Studio—the very same Happiness Wedding Dress Studio.
Rachel Bailey turned her head, gave Julia Bluen a deep look, then smiled but said nothing.
Perhaps it’s true what they say: those involved can’t see clearly, while bystanders can. From the first time she saw Glades Horne, Rachel Bailey could sense that his love for Julia Bluen was genuine. Although she didn’t understand how he had ended up with Ruby Bluen, Rachel Bailey had a strong feeling that Julia Bluen was the one Glades Horne truly loved. Now, hearing her friend’s confused words, she became even more certain that her intuition was correct.
After Julia Bluen led Rachel Bailey into the Photo Studio, she simply stated a name, and a staff member escorted them to the second floor.
The woman who had delivered the dresses to Rachel Bailey earlier was also on the second floor. Upon seeing Julia Bluen, she immediately approached with a smile, greeting her, "Julia, what brings you here?" She evidently knew Julia Bluen and addressed her with the same familiar nickname Edo Hanley used.
"Clara, business brings me, of course," Julia Bluen said, letting go of Rachel Bailey’s hand to warmly embrace the woman known as Clara Martinez. Then, she turned to Rachel Bailey and introduced her, "Rachel, this is my sister’s friend, Clara Martinez. She’s a legendary designer in the fashion industry, nearly on par with Michael Rice-Able."
"I know." Rachel Bailey exchanged a glance with Clara Martinez and smiled. Clara Martinez had given her a business card earlier, and Rachel Bailey, after a quick look, still remembered her name.
"You know each other?" Julia Bluen seemed curious.
The people Julia Bluen knew held positions in the business world and high society that others coveted. Even this Clara Martinez was a lady from a prominent family. However, she wasn’t content to stay at home as an idle young wife and instead pursued her passion for design. She was also a shareholder in the city’s most exclusive Happiness Wedding Dress Studio. She lived a vibrant and successful life, even without relying on her husband’s family.
"I just delivered a few dresses to this young lady earlier. Julia, is there anything I can help you with? By the way, where’s your sister? The wedding is coming up soon, isn’t it? I haven’t seen her for over a month. I can’t reach her by phone; it’s always off. Did she change her number?" The news of Ruby Bluen having run away from her wedding had been suppressed by the Horne and Bluen families, so people outside their circle didn’t know the truth.
Julia Bluen glanced at Rachel Bailey, signaling with her eyes not to reveal the truth. Then, she affectionately hooked her arm through Clara Martinez’s and said, "Clara, you’ve been a bride before. With the wedding just days away, a bride-to-be definitely doesn’t have time to be out and about. Oh, wait. Clara, did you just say you delivered a few dresses to Rachel? What dresses? Who asked you to send them?" She had brought Rachel Bailey here specifically to help her choose bridesmaid dresses for the wedding, which was in two days.
"Your brother-in-law’s Assistant, Ruiz, personally came here to pick out a few dresses and then had me deliver them to Miss Bailey," Clara Martinez explained.
Was this Glades Horne’s idea?
Julia Bluen was taken aback. She hadn’t expected Glades Horne to be so thoughtful, to have even prepared Rachel Bailey’s dresses before she could.
"Julia," Clara Martinez whispered, pulling the stunned Julia Bluen aside. "What’s Miss Bailey’s relationship with your sister? I’ve been friends with your sister for years and never knew she had such a friend."
"Oh, that. Clara, Rachel is my friend."
"Yours?" Clara Martinez was even more bewildered; her mind almost short-circuited. If Rachel Bailey was Julia Bluen’s friend, why was she going to be Ruby Bluen’s bridesmaid?
"Clara, are my sister’s dresses all ready? The ones for the wedding ceremony and the evening banquet, are they all prepared?" Julia Bluen changed the subject.
