Chapter 63: Chapter 63 Glades Horne’s Worries (1)_1
It was nearing evening, and the street was now even more crowded.
Upon reaching Central Street, Hansen Ruiz pulled over to let Rachel Bailey out of the car. After getting out, she reached into her pocket, took out fifty US dollars, and stuffed it back into the car for Hansen, saying, "This is for your fare." The one who had scared her legs into jelly wasn’t Hansen, but rather something to do with Benjamin Robinson, so she didn’t want to owe Hansen any favors.
Hansen Ruiz blinked, chuckled as he picked up the fifty US dollars, and chuckled again as he watched Rachel Bailey meld back into the crowd. Her petite figure was still fairly noticeable amongst the throng. She wasn’t much to look at, but she had a decent figure.
Flipping the fifty US dollars in his hand, Hansen Ruiz laughed softly, "That distance we traveled, even if we treat it as fare, it’s not enough. You should have given me a hundred US dollars at least!"
His car was a luxury vehicle worth over a million after all.
Still, he took out his own wallet and tucked the fifty US dollars inside it.
Money is money, no matter how little, and no one will reject it.
「The Horne Family’s mansion.」
As the wedding day approached, the Horne Family’s servants started busily working in silence.
But Mila Anderson couldn’t care less about the wedding. Ever since Ruby Bluen had run away from her wedding, Mila had lost interest in her son’s marriage affairs. She felt that Ruby had brought shame to the Horne Family and to Glades Horne. Even though Glades had kept the matter from becoming public knowledge, the thought of her excellent son being abandoned by Ruby Bluen made Mila unable to feel happy.
If Glades had chosen to marry a daughter from another distinguished family, perhaps she would have been somewhat happy, but Glades had still chosen someone from the Bluen Family. However, in front of her son, she showed acceptance.
In truth, she had watched Julia Bluen grow up. That child had a good nature. It was her anger at Ruby Bluen that made her resist Julia internally.
Every day, she either shopped with company or played cards with her affluent friends, never uttering a word about the wedding.
Today, her luck was bad. She lost quite a bit of money, so she came home early.
Sitting in the living room with reading glasses on, reading the T City Evening News, the old lady looked up at her arrival and said warmly, "You’re back."
"Mm, Mom, is it just you here?" Mila Anderson sat down opposite the elderly woman, smiled, and asked softly.
"Whenever you ask, it’s always just me." The old lady said with a touch of self-mockery as she pushed her reading glasses, then lowered her gaze back to the newspaper.
Mila Anderson said no more.
"Oh, Adele is at home, in her room. She hasn’t come out all afternoon. You should go see her," the old lady added. After Glades had sent Orlando Evans away from the Horne Family, it was natural that Adele Horne would feel sad for her friend. While the old lady was pleased that her grandson had sent the mistress away, she also felt some pity for her only granddaughter. However, she would not plead with Glades on Adele’s behalf. She believed Orlando’s friendship with Adele was not pure and that her granddaughter simply had not seen through it.
"Alright. Will Glades be coming home for dinner tonight?" Mila Anderson stood up as she asked.
"He’s probably eating with Julia. The young couple should spend more time together." Mentioning her beloved grandson, the old lady’s tone took on a few extra notes of fondness.
Mila Anderson didn’t say anything more and simply told the old lady that she was going upstairs to check on Adele Horne before leaving the hall.
Upon reaching the second floor, she went straight to Adele Horne’s room and knocked on the door.
"Adele, are you there? It’s Mom," Mila Anderson asked gently while she tapped lightly on the door.
No answer came from Adele Horne’s room.
Mila Anderson knocked a few more times, but still no response. She then decided to push the door open, only to discover that Adele Horne was not in her room at all.
She muttered softly, "Where could this child be? Wasn’t she supposed to be in her room?" After failing to find Adele Horne in the bathroom or on the balcony, she stepped out of the room. Standing at the doorway, she thought for a moment then turned and headed for the staircase towards the top floor.
When she reached the top floor, she saw Adele Horne sitting by the poolside, staring blankly at the water as though she was brooding.
Mila Anderson tread softly, aware of what her daughter might be upset about. After last night’s incident, she herself had wanted to banish Orlando Evans from the Horne Family, let alone Glades. Although she didn’t favor Julia Bluen now, Julia was technically her daughter-in-law. Perhaps because her own marriage had been disrupted by a third party, she disliked Orlando Evans still being infatuated with Glades. Furthermore, she didn’t approve of her daughter going out of her way to help Orlando disrupt her son’s marriage.
She had a considerable liking for Orlando Evans in the past, as Orlando had been her daughter’s friend for ten years. But after last night, her fondness for Orlando had considerably diminished. No matter how you looked at it, Orlando Evans came from a family of high-ranking officials. How could she commit such shameless acts?
Hearing footsteps, Adele Horne turned her head and pouted her red lips in an extremely aggrieved manner when she saw Mila Anderson. As Mila sat down, Adele mewled plaintively, "Mom."
Mila Anderson smiled gently and replied, "Why are you hiding here all alone? Didn’t go out? Usually, at this time, you’re out having fun."
Adele Horne murmured, "Who should I go out with? Last night, Glades sent Orlando away, and I feel sorry for Orlando. I don’t even dare to see her anymore. Mom, Glades is just determined to leave me lonely. He has his own close friends, and I only had Orlando, yet he forbids her from seeing me." Adele Horne lied—she had gone out for coffee with Orlando Evans that morning and run into Julia Bluen.
"Adele, who is closer to you, Orlando or your brother?" Mila Anderson asked affectionately as she gazed at her daughter.
"Of course, it’s my brother."
"Your brother already dislikes Orlando Evans, yet you still oppose him at every turn, insisting on helping Orlando harass him. It’s already remarkable that he’s put up with it for so many years. Who knew you’d persist in deceit? He could bear it no longer. Why would he continue to tolerate it?" Mila Anderson discussed the matter frankly.
"Mom!" Adele Horne called out, dissatisfied.
Mila Anderson responded with a soft smile, stretching out her hand to grasp her daughter’s. After a gentle squeeze, she let go, looking at Adele Horne with an affectionate gaze and suggested, "Adele, you’re not getting any younger. If you find staying at home dull, why not work at the company? Let your brother arrange a job for you—that way, your life will be much fuller." And she wouldn’t have to mix with Orlando Evans all day long. Orlando was such a woman, bent on every scheme without regard for decency, and Mila was worried Orlando might lead her own daughter astray.
