Chapter 143: Demon Encirclement!

Chapter 143: Demon Encirclement!

His eyes widened in shock, and all he could see was a massive claw racing toward his face with terrifying speed. Kranos was stunned and tried to dodge the claw, but his movements were too slow. After all, he couldn’t freely move his mana within his body.

Just as he was about to activate the Pause Time ability, he felt a slight, gentle push, and in the next instant, he was tossed to the side just enough for the claw to narrowly miss him.

A moment later, he saw Kathryn stretch out her palm. Muttering a few words, she hurled a ball of flame toward the grotesque creature that had attacked Kranos. He realized it was a creature covered in scales that resembled a snake.

A demon?

Kranos was slightly stunned.

Kathryn’s ball of fire moved rapidly, and in the blink of an eye, it struck the demon squarely on its head. The demon was sent flying into a tree in the distance. The moment it collided with the tree, the flame engulfed its body, beginning from its head.

The demon was shocked but couldn’t resist the divine flames. It could only writhe in pain and agony, roaring continuously.

"Demon, do you know any human establishments nearby?" Kathryn’s figure blurred, leaving Kranos behind, and she appeared in front of the demon as she asked.

She retracted the flames burning the demon but created another ball of fire in her palm. She waved it in front of the demon while speaking, causing it to freeze slightly in fear.

"You..." the demon was startled and wanted to curse. However, upon seeing the flame in her hand, it shrank its neck in fear.

"There is a human city nearby," the demon finally replied after a brief hesitation.

"Where is the human city? Lead the way." Kathryn thought for a moment before giving the demon a command. Then she tossed a ball of flame toward its location, causing the flames to orbit the demon, and disappeared before appearing beside Kranos.

Lifting him slightly, she appeared in front of the demon again and retracted her fire back to her hand. She had only done it to prevent the demon from escaping during the short delay.

"Lead the way, and don’t try anything suspicious. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even know how you died," Kathryn warned sternly, causing the demon to shiver in fear.

Initially, it had planned to lead them toward other demons that included Monarch Realm creatures. But now... No, I can still guide them to that place where Monarch and even God Incarnate Realm demons gather. The demon had a sudden thought. Recalling the recent uprisings in the demon world, it decided to lead the trio there instead.

Let’s see how you survive... Even if you kill me, you can never escape. The demon sneered inwardly.

Desmond’s shadow flickered as he stared in the direction of the trio, deep in thought. He had heard the conversation between Kathryn and the demon.

It seems I can only be patient and follow them for now. He decided, then his figure once again blended with the shadows.

...

Time passed with the demon leading them through the silent forest. Everything remained eerily calm, but Kathryn expected this. Any human settlement near a demon encampment had to remain silent to survive for this long.

Just then, a loud hiss tore through the air.

Roarrrr.

Immediately after the hiss resounded, a terrifying demon resembling a tiger with dark green stripes sprang from the woods and lunged at them. The demon looked slightly humanoid, and as it moved, a torrent of water condensed out of nowhere and followed it.

In a blink, it reached Kathryn. Its fist struck forward, aiming for her face. At the same time, the torrent of water surged forward to engulf and crush them with sheer pressure.

Fortunately, Kathryn’s reaction was swift. The moment the demon appeared, her palm moved at lightning speed, and a large stream of flame burst from her hand. It moved rapidly and engulfed everything in its path, burning both the demon and the water torrent into nothingness.

The demon who had led them was stunned. The attacking demon was a Monarch Realm being, yet it was destroyed in an instant. Just then, a sharp whistling sound pierced the air, and the demon collapsed, dead.

It struggled to turn its head toward the direction of the sound and saw a young elf holding a bow. He was the one who had released the arrow. The demon’s eyes quickly turned lifeless, as even with its terrifying regenerative abilities, it couldn’t survive a headshot.

Kevin held his bow as he walked toward Kranos and Kathryn. He knew his sister hated betrayal more than anything, so the moment he sensed the demon’s deception, he acted. While she was dealing with the creature, he had finished the traitor off.

"We are surrounded, and there are at least more than ten Monarch Realm demons," Kathryn’s solemn voice drew Kranos and Kevin’s attention.

Their eyes widened in shock. At that moment, dozens of ball-sized eyes opened, and for a second, it looked as though dozens of flashlights had turned on in the forest. At the same time, loud thudding sounds echoed around them.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

It was the sound of the demons approaching. Kathryn’s brows furrowed at the sight. There were far more than she had anticipated.

"Brother, climb that tree. Use the technique you mastered from the Sovereign Star Sect and shoot down as many as you can. Be careful and watch your back," Kathryn advised Kevin.

He nodded without hesitation. His figure vanished as he darted toward a nearby tree.

"Can you hold yourself together and deal with a few demons?" Kathryn turned to Kranos.

Kranos felt a dull strain in his meridians but nodded firmly. He could still use his time abilities in battle.

What none of them knew was that at this very moment, Desmond had received a sound transmission from one of the God Incarnate Realm assassins.

They had finally arrived in the forest.

Right about time.
