Pokémon Court
Chapter 590: Returning!

Due to the format of the Normal-type event, just like the earlier Ice-type event, this event was very well-received by the Coordinators.

Moreover, this event had one particular advantage: there were no overwhelmingly powerful Coordinators or Trainers participating, such as Master Wallace or Master Leo.

Of course, while people like Terrance and Albus were also extremely strong, compared to Wallace and Leo, who were respectfully referred to as “Masters,” there was still some gap.

Terrance was also participating in the Normal-type event, which everyone knew.

However, although Terrance had claimed victory in two events in a high profile manner, that still couldn’t erase the fact that he had also suffered defeats in two events.

So, compared to Wallace and Leo, even though Terrance gave off a very threatening impression, he still wasn’t quite as formidable as them.

Most people harbored the thought: what if Terrance’s Normal-type Pokémon, like his previous Arcanine and Gallade, wasn’t actually all that powerful?

Additionally, in this kind of performance-oriented event, for Coordinators who had all earned top-tier titles, naturally none was convinced that any of the others were better than themselves.

This event will feature the highest number of Top Coordinators.

In contrast, the number of Trainers participating in this event was relatively low.

After the Steel-type and Ice-type event had concluded, and when the Normal-type event had progressed to about halfway, a Coordinator stepped onto the stage.

Her light-green twintails, reddish-brown eyes, and the Skitty following at her side….all unmistakably signaled her identity.

Top Coordinator, Abby.

She was one of the rare few who had reached the rank of Top Coordinator with only Normal-type Pokémon.

Therefore, Abby was considered a top contender to win this event, and the moment she came on the stage, it drew a great deal of attention.

Wearing a qipao, Abby looked around and took a deep breath; the air was filled with the scent of seawater.

Due to scheduling conflicts with other events, the venue for the Normal-type event was a massive floating arena built out at sea.

“Skitty?” Seeing the pink, adorable creature beside Abby, many Trainers smiled and shook their heads.

Was this little guy really a Top Coordinator’s Pokémon?

Even quite a few Coordinators fell silent.

However, Skitty’s performance turned out to be quite impressive.

Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Solar Beam; every time Abby’s Skitty unleashed a move, the audience was left amazed. Could a Skitty really learn moves like these?

However, even though Abby and Skitty displayed four moves of different types and executed them with extremely smooth and seamless transitions, they still didn’t manage to gain the attention of some Trainers.

Abby was the first Top Coordinator to appear on stage, and she was also the first to break through a total score of 60 points.

But in the eyes of most people, she was still too weak. In terms of actual combat strength, any Trainer who had earned eight Badges and qualified to participate in Pokemon League could easily defeat Abby.

With a perfect total score of 100 points, split equally between practical combat value and coordination, Abby’s Skitty scored 21 points for practical combat value and 41 points for coordination, for a total of 62 points.

“That Skitty has been raised quite well.” Watching the event, Wallace sighed slightly as he observed Abby’s performance.

“But it’s a pity, its combat capability is far too weak…”

Weak.

This evaluation hadn’t been given to any previous Coordinators who had gone on stage, but once Abby, someone who had achieved the Top Coordinator title using only Normal-type Pokémon, appeared, countless Trainers began criticizing her.

Previously appearing Trainers had all scored at least 25 points or more in practical combat value; it was only in coordination that they had fallen short.

The weak performance by Abby and her Skitty in that area directly led many Trainers to question the legitimacy of the Top Coordinator title, thinking that perhaps it wasn’t such a big deal after all.

“Didn’t Abby win the last Grand Festival in Johto?” Raoul Contesta recalled and recognized Abby.

“Yes, and the level of Coordinators in that competition was considered one of the weakest in recent years, it was practically the opposite extreme of the Hoenn Grand Festival two years ago,” said Sukizo, narrowing his eyes as he, too, remembered.

“Mm. At that time, Abby barely managed to win. She only won by taking advantage of the Battle Stage rules. Her Skitty does have a wide range of moves and executed them decently, but the power behind them was too average,” Raoul Contesta said, shaking his head. “Still, we have to score according to the rules. All we can do is hope that when Terrance appears, he can restore some dignity of the Coordinators.”

“I’m really looking forward to seeing that Castform of his,” he added.

Abby’s performance did indeed diminish the prestige of the Top Coordinator title somewhat.

Although her score was already higher than any previous participant’s, her glaring weakness in practical combat value only intensified many Trainers’ belief that Coordinators were nothing more than decorative “vases.”

“Coordinators like Terrance and Wallace are rare, after all,” Albus said, shaking his head as he watched the live broadcast on the big screen.

These past few days, he hadn’t seen any sign of Terrance. He had no idea where that guy had gone off to.

“Things on Fujiki’s side should be starting soon too.”

The Poison-type event also had quite a few participants.

This event was rather unique, it tested the toxicity of the Pokémon.

Whether it was venom, toxic gas, or something else, the stronger the toxicity, the greater the chance of advancing.

The judging standard involved using a type of medicine with high resistance to toxins as a reference. The degree to which the Poison-type Pokémon’s moves contaminated the medicine was the key to scoring high.

“Morty’s Gengar produced venom that gave off black smoke while infecting the antidote…”

“It only took one minute to contaminate sixty percent of the antidote.” Many people swallowed nervously. This essentially meant that even if an ordinary Pokémon had the same level of poison resistance as the antidote, it would lose consciousness in less than two minutes.

But the antidote itself was formulated from various toxin-resistant plants. Most Pokémon’s resistance to poison wasn’t even one-tenth as strong as that antidote.

“It’s the cursed power of Ghost-type energy…” Fantina’s eyes gleamed as she watched Morty’s performance. Coincidentally, as a fellow expert in Ghost types, she also planned to use Gengar to compete in the toxicity event.

Morty’s Gengar produced a kind of poison imbued with a curse, making it far more threatening than ordinary venom.

While Fantina was watching Morty’s performance, Fujiki passed by, causing Fantina to pause in surprise. She quickly called out, “Miss Fujiki.”

“So you’re participating in this event too.”

Fujiki stopped and looked at Fantina with a hint of confusion.

“I remember you already won the Fire-type event, didn’t you?” Fantina recalled.

“That’s right,” Fujiki nodded.

“Speaking of which, this Poison-type event is my last chance,” Fantina said.

Thinking of her experiences in the previous events, Fantina couldn’t help but smile bitterly in her heart. As a well-known actress, she had never suffered such setbacks.

So in this Poison-type event, she was determined to win; whether it was Morty or the mysterious Trainer Fujiki, who had already claimed one victory, she would defeat them all.

“Let’s do our best during the event,” Fantina said politely, making a formal challenge gesture toward Fujiki before walking toward the competition area.

Fujiki watched Fantina’s departing figure in silence, then resumed walking forward herself.

In the Poison-type event, many participants competed simultaneously. At her designated spot, Fantina summoned Gengar. Gengar looked at the antidote, let out a sinister laugh, and sprayed a mass of black and red venom.

The moment the venom contacted the antidote, it caused the burning effect to spread, sizzling and crackling as it burned the antidote.

“Fire poison?!” many spectators exclaimed in surprise upon seeing Gengar’s performance.

“A perfect combination of Will-O-Wisp and venom?” The antidote burned rapidly, much faster than Morty’s cursed poison. This demonstrated that Fantina had developed Gengar’s toxicity far more effectively than Morty had!

After seeing Morty’s performance, Fantina clearly had confidence in herself. But what she truly cared about now was Fujiki’s performance.

“The purest corrosive poison?” On Fujiki’s side, her Grass and Poison-type Roserade showcased the most primal form of corrosive poison, venom specialized in corroding life. This kind of venom was most lethal to plants, but even against the antidote, it was extremely effective, devouring the medicinal properties at an astonishing speed.

However, this speed still couldn’t quite compare to Fantina’s fire poison.

Fantina and Fujiki looked at each other at the same time, their expressions both calm.

“I’ve won,” Fantina thought to herself.

“That girl…” Albus, watching nearby, chuckled at the scene. Although Fujiki’s face showed no emotion, he knew that if Fujiki ended up facing Fantina in the upcoming battles, she would likely go all out.

The Poison-type event ultimately ended with Fantina’s victory. This result brought a sigh of relief to Raoul Contesta and the others.

At the very least, as of now, the number of Coordinators and Trainers who advanced was evenly balanced.

“The upcoming Normal-type event…” Several Contest Committee official staff members looked together at the long list of participants. If nothing unexpected happened, with so many Top Coordinators involved, this Normal-type event should also be taken by a Coordinator, right?

The next day.

Since he was set to appear in the Normal-type event, Terrance returned once again to Sootopolis City.
