Pokémon Court -
Chapter 585: Top-notch Talent
Massacre.
This event was Mismagius’s massacre show.
Even though Mismagius’s figure only flashed across a few screens, Terrance still underestimated how quickly the terrifying performance would spread after Mismagius showed its strength.
Now, everyone in Sootopolis City who was following the event knew that Terrance’s Mismagius was ruthlessly harvesting the Ghost-type Pokémon present as points.
Mismagius was being extremely thorough. Every Pokémon that appeared in front of it collapsed almost without a chance to resist.
The level of thoroughness was such that the event’s “security measures”, i.e. backup plans to prevent some Pokémon from falling into chaos and going out of control weren’t even needed.
“And this is without even using any actual offensive moves…”
Many people gasped in disbelief, unable to imagine that even simple techniques like hypnosis or mental interference could be wielded with such overwhelming force.
If one could cause other Pokémon to lose consciousness and the power to resist without attacking, then what need was there for attacks at all?
At least right now, in Mismagius’s case, its clean and decisive actions made many people believe that even if this Mismagius didn’t know how to use offensive moves like Shadow Ball, there were still very few Pokémon that could defeat it.It was as if this event had been tailor-made just for this Mismagius.
Although the ability to interfere with a living being’s mind was something almost every Ghost or Psychic-type Pokémon possessed, very few people had ever seen it done as powerfully as Mismagius did.
“This Mismagius’s training path… is probably the same as that bizarre main Pokemon of the Elite Four Shauntal.” The Elite Four Leo fell silent after watching Mismagius’s performance.
Illusion skill talent… Even among Ghost-type Pokémon, very few possessed such a gift.
As far as he knew, Unova’s Ghost-type master, Elite Four Shauntal, had a main Pokémon that specialized exactly in illusion skills!
Although Shauntal’s signature moves were “Shadow Ball” and “Psychic,” Leo still didn’t want to face that illusion-specialist Pokémon of hers.
Wherever Mismagius passed, the Ghost-type Pokémon, whether trying to attack or flee, were all trapped in illusions by what seemed like an incantation echoing in all directions.
When faced with illusions, Ghost-type Pokémon should have had a certain degree of resistance. Yet even the Pokémon of several Top Coordinators and renowned Trainers were unable to escape from Mismagius’s illusions.
“This Mismagius’s control over energy has reached the absolute peak.” Wallace smiled. Truly remarkable. Back during the Junior Breeder exam, he already had a feeling that Terrance wouldn’t turn out ordinary, but who could have imagined that in just five years, Terrance would possess the potential to challenge for the title of Top Trainer?
Although he himself had been more outstanding than Terrance at this age, and in fact, there were quite a few others who had been better at this age than Terrance, every one of them had come from prestigious backgrounds. Someone like Terrance, who came purely from humble beginnings, was exceedingly rare.
What amazed people at the Top Trainer level even more was that this Mismagius seemed like it had been born specifically for illusion skills.
Its illusion skills were as natural and effortless as breathing.
There were far too few Ghost-type Pokémon like this.
So few, in fact, that even Elite Four members like Phoebe and Agatha had only managed to find one or two Pokémon that were barely satisfactory for raising.
To have caught a Mismagius like this, Terrance was undeniably lucky.
A Pokémon with such near-perfect talent in illusion skills, even without a Trainer to raise it, could likely grow to an incredibly powerful level simply due to its long lifespan.
“The final showdown is here!”
The event had been going on for a long time, and when the two Mismagius finally encountered each other, most people realized that this battle would determine the outcome of the entire event.
At this stage of the event, only two outstanding participants remained.
Terrance and Fantina.
However, compared to Terrance’s Mismagius, Fantina’s Mismagius, while still impressive, with skillful mastery of moves and solid fundamentals, it was ultimately still a step behind in terms of sheer power.
This gap was apparent in how they had dealt with other competitors. Terrance’s Mismagius was harvesting points at nearly several times the speed of Fantina’s Mismagius.
That is to say, in the time it took Fantina’s Mismagius to take down one opponent, Terrance’s Mismagius could already have instantly defeated several.
Although the two had run into each other, many people felt that this battle held no suspense, unless Fantina’s Mismagius could create a miracle.
But miracles… are never so easy to come by.
As the number of Pokémon dwindled, the festival organizers also knew exactly which broadcast the audience wanted to see. At this moment, nearly every screen across the region was showing the scene of these two Mismagius clashing.
There are three ways a Mismagius can perform mental interference: one is an chant-like cry, the second is Confuse Ray, and the third is an alternative application of Psybeam. All three can produce effects similar to “Hypnosis” or “illusion skills” to affect the enemy.
Terrance’s Mismagius, ever since learning Lucky Chant, preferred to use chant-like cries to launch illusion attacks.
However, Fantina’s Mismagius was different. It favored using Confuse Ray to create illusionary scenes.
But now, whether it was illusions or hypnosis, none of it mattered anymore to Terrance’s Mismagius.
Its strength now far surpassed its opponent’s. Its sensory perception and control over energy were on a completely different level. If it were still affected by the opponent’s illusion skills, then it would hardly be worthy of being recognized by Top Trainers as possessing top-notch talent for illusion skills.
At this moment, the two Ghosts of the same species erupted into an overwhelming mental battle in an instant.
This battle couldn’t be seen by outsiders, but they could imagine just how fierce the clash between the two Pokémon must be.
Terrance rubbed his temples and started counting silently in his mind…
1… 2… 3…
Three seconds after the two Pokémon began their confrontation, Fantina’s Mismagius crashed to the ground with a loud thud, its body trembling, its consciousness fading, and its expression filled with fear.
The time….it was so short that everyone was stunned.
Even Fantina’s Pokémon couldn’t hold out against this Mismagius. It was defeated in an instant!
“The thing about illusion skills is just that, either the outcome is decided in an instant, or they get seen through and become mere interference.”
Terrance shook his head slightly. Back when Mismagius hadn’t grown strong yet, its illusion skills could only be used as a form of interference. But now, with power far beyond its opponent, its illusion skills were an offensive weapon…..a decisive weapon!
After the defeats of Arcanine and Gallade, people had thought that Terrance would struggle to win again…
But in this Ghost-type event, with him overwhelmingly defeating both Morty and Fantina, Terrance had shown everyone that he still had plenty of hidden strength!
