Chapter 87 - 87 87 Booked Surgery for Her

Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Booked Surgery for Her Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Booked Surgery for Her Ding Hao’s behavior was very abnormal, and the more abnormal he became, the more curious Qiao En grew.

Who exactly was this Su Nian?

Why was even Ding Hao so secretive?

What were they hiding after all?

Qiao En’s mind was filled with various questions; she felt like she had entered a labyrinth where the woman was in the shadows, manipulating everything, while she was exposed, restricted at every turn.

That night, Qiao En didn’t return to Chengnan Apartment; she stayed at the Qiao family home.

Before bed, Qiao’s mother warmed some milk and brought it to Qiao En.

“En, what are your plans with Doctor Ding? Does he know about the child? You need to hurry up with the marriage; it will be embarrassing once your belly grows visible.”

Qiao’s mother began to pressure her for marriage again.

Qiao En was annoyed and upset, her tone of voice was not great, “Mom, I’m tired, I want to rest early, please go out.”

She pulled the quilt over her head, trying to escape from it all.

Qiao’s mother sighed heavily, put down the milk, and walked to the door.

“En, although we aren’t your birth parents, we still hope you can have a good life. This time, your father and brother got into trouble, and it’s all been you dealing with it, it breaks my heart. En, Doctor Ding treats you well and doesn’t look down on our modest family. Mom is thinking, if you marry him, you’ll at least have someone to rely on in times of trouble.”

“En, I know you have your pride, and marrying Doctor Ding might not please you. It’s all my and your father’s fault for not providing you with a better material life and always burdening you.”

Qiao En couldn’t bear to listen any more, her mother’s words were like a soft whip striking her heart, made her uncomfortable and filled with guilt.

“Mom, I’m grown up now, you don’t have to worry about me anymore, I know what I should do.”

“You know, but the child in your belly doesn’t, does it? En, being a single mother is hard, and I can’t bear to see you suffer that hardship.”

Qiao En had never considered being a single mother.

She had never had the time to even think about whether to keep the child or not.

Should she tell Zhou Jin’an? She once felt a momentary urge to do so but held back.

She was just a substitute, so what if she was carrying his child?

At two in the morning, just as Qiao En started to feel a bit sleepy, Zhou Jin’an suddenly called.

“Where are you?”

His voice was very tired, and it was very quiet on his end of the phone.

“At my mom’s place, what about you?”

“Your place.”

Zhou Jin’an replied.

With the funeral of Zhou Zhendong drawing a crowd, Zhou Jin’an’s visit to Chengnan Apartment in the dead of night surely meant something.

But Qiao En didn’t ask; she remained silent.

“I want to see you tonight.”

Zhou Jin’an said on the other end of the phone.

“It’s too late, inconvenient for me.”

Qiao En refused.

He rarely took the initiative to ask for anything, and she rarely refused him.

But now, her relationship with Zhou Jin’an was tangled, and before Qiao En could sort out the order of her own feelings, she didn’t want to see him.

Zhou Jin’an sounded disappointed, but he didn’t insist. After a long exhale, he said, “Then rest well, I’ll contact you once I’m not busy.”

“Okay.”

Qiao En responded.

The next morning, Qiao En learned through the news that Zhou Zhendong’s funeral took place that day.

Zhou Jin’an was cold by nature, not fond of being close to others.

He was separated from his birth mother at the age of three, and in his anger, Zhou’s father took it out on him, neglecting him, leaving him with resentment.

But no matter how strong the resentment was, it couldn’t erase the deep bond of father and son.

Last night, his sudden visit was probably because he was feeling distressed.

Qiao En had drafted a message to send to Zhou Jin’an, but in the moment before she hit send, she withdrew it.

She almost forgot, she was just a substitute.

Breakfast time.

Qiao En received a phone call from Nurse Zhou.

“Miss Qiao, the surgery you asked me to schedule for you yesterday is at two o’clock in the afternoon, remember to arrive one hour early.”

Qiao En was bewildered.

“Nurse Zhou, could there be a mistake? I don’t recall asking you to schedule any surgery for me?”

“How could there be a mistake? You came to me yesterday afternoon, said you were pregnant, that you couldn’t keep the child, and asked me to schedule an abortion for you. You also told me not to let your parents know. You couldn’t have forgotten so soon, could you?”

Abortion?

Frightened, Qiao En’s hand trembled, and her phone fell to the ground.

“Miss Qiao? Are you still listening? I’ve scheduled your surgery, just go directly to the gynecology and obstetrics department on the third floor, remember…”

Nurse Zhou continued to say something, but not a word reached Qiao En’s ears.

All she felt was an invisible hand firmly gripping her throat, making it impossible for her to breathe, unable to resist, while that person continued to smile triumphantly at her.

She placed her hand over her abdomen, terror climbing up inside her, breaking out in a cold sweat.

Was it that woman? Was she trying to take away Qiao En and Zhou Jin’an’s child?

She crouched on the ground, hugging her knees tightly, forcing herself to calm down, but upon closing her eyes, all she could see was that woman’s smug smile.

Just when Qiao En was most panicked, An Kexin made a phone call.

Seeing her name flicker on the phone screen, Qiao En did not answer.

But An Kexin was persistent. If Qiao En didn’t answer, she just kept calling.

“Enya, why aren’t you answering the phone?”

Qiao’s mother suddenly pushed open the door and entered, immediately noticing An Kexin’s name.

“It’s Miss An’s call.”

Qiao’s mother had a good impression of An Kexin, and without Qiao En’s consent, she slid the answer button.

“Miss An, this is Qiao Aunty. It has been a while since we saw you, come to our home for a meal when you are free, okay?”

Qiao’s mother held the phone, chatting warmly and smilingly with An Kexin.

“You’re looking for Enya? Just a second, I’ll call her for you.”

Qiao’s mother covered the mouthpiece and whispered to Qiao En, “Miss An is loyal and devoted, don’t be unappreciative.”

Qiao’s mother handed the phone to Qiao En, leaving her with no place to hide.

“Miss An, are you looking for me?”

“Secretary Qiao, can you meet me?” An Kexin asked with a cry in her voice.

“Miss An, if there’s something you need to say, just say it over the phone.”

An Kexin didn’t respond; she just kept crying, “Are you at home? I am coming over to see you, we can talk when I’m there.”

Half an hour later, An Kexin arrived, but she didn’t come up, instead calling Qiao En.

“Secretary Qiao, I’m here at the bottom of your building. Should I come up or will you come down?”

Qiao En looked down from the window, An Kexin, in a black dress, was standing right downstairs of her building.

“I’ll come down.”

Qiao En descended the stairs.

But as soon as she appeared, An Kexin suddenly grabbed her hand and “thud” knelt down before her.

“Secretary Qiao, please, I beg you, help Brother An, will you?”

An Kexin knelt on the ground, her eyes red, looking pitifully at her.

“Miss An, please get up first.”

Qiao En pulled at her, trying to get An Kexin to stand up, but she was obstinate and wouldn’t budge.

“Please, just promise you will help Brother An, then I will get up.”
