Chapter 83 - 83 83 Zhou Jinans Ex-Girlfriend
Chapter 83: Chapter 83 Zhou Jin’an’s Ex-Girlfriend Chapter 83: Chapter 83 Zhou Jin’an’s Ex-Girlfriend “Enya, come out with your mother for a bit.”
Seeing her, Mrs. Qiao’s eyes darkened, and without finishing her meal, she found an excuse to call Qiao En out.
“Enya, tell Mom, are you pregnant?”
Mrs. Qiao was dead serious.
“Mom, I just got a stomachache from eating something bad, how could I be pregnant?”
Qiao En denied categorically.
She had never made her relationship public and had always been conducting a secret affair with Zhou Jin’an; Mrs. Qiao had never seen her with any boyfriend.
However, she was aware of Ding Hao’s pursuit of Qiao En.
“Pregnant or not, you should get a check-up. You’re grown up and there are many things you won’t tell me, but Enya, having a child out of wedlock will make your in-laws look down on you,” Mrs. Qiao nagged for a bit, and Qiao En quickly shut her up.
“Okay, I’ll go for a check-up right now. You can be a hundred percent sure, I am absolutely not pregnant,” she assured her.
Mrs. Qiao was not reassured, and insisted on accompanying her to the gynecologist.
After drawing blood, the test results would take fifteen minutes.
Qiao En leaned back in a chair in the waiting area, Mrs. Qiao sat beside her, clearly nervous and anxious.
“The baby is Doctor Ding’s, isn’t it? Does he know? Enya, has Doctor Ding mentioned when he will marry you?” she asked rapidly, one question after another.
Qiao En felt overwhelmed by the questions.
“Mom, stop asking, I’m not pregnant,” she said.
She had only ever been with Zhou Jin’an, and they had always been very careful. Even on the few occasions when accidents happened, Qiao En had quickly taken emergency measures.
Getting pregnant wasn’t that easy.
Fifteen minutes later, Qiao En’s test results came out.
Unfortunately, she was indeed positive.
HCG levels had skyrocketed.
“Enya, what are we going to do now?”
Mrs. Qiao was immediately thrown into a panic.
“Mom, I know how to handle this situation, could you please not panic?”
But Mrs. Qiao just couldn’t contain her anxiety. As a woman confined by traditional thinking, the idea of her daughter getting pregnant before marriage was mortifying. If the news got out, it would be the talk of the town.
“Enya, get married quickly. Tell Doctor Ding, Mom doesn’t want a dowry, Mom doesn’t want anything at all,” Mrs. Qiao said, assuming subjectively that the child was Ding Hao’s. She took out her phone, ready to call Ding Hao.
“I will talk to Doctor Ding. We can’t delay this matter,” Mrs. Qiao intended to make the call.
Qiao En quickly stopped her, “Mom, let me handle this, okay? You go back to the ward, don’t tell Dad, and don’t say anything to Doctor Ding.”
Qiao En pushed her mother towards the ward.
Mrs. Qiao kept looking back, worry filling her eyes.
The incident had caught Qiao En off guard, leaving her with no mental preparation.
She clutched the test report and sat quietly in a secluded spot for a long, long time.
She and Zhou Jin’an were having a child – it should have been a joyous event, yet Qiao En couldn’t feel happy at all.
They were both in a dire situation, many things out of their control. The timing of this child was unfortunate, and Qiao En could not bear to let this young life endure the burdens fate had forced upon it.
Yet, the thought of depriving the child of the chance to live was also something Qiao En couldn’t bring herself to do.
For a moment, she found herself caught in a dilemma.
Just then, Qiao En’s phone rang – it was a call from Detective Wu.
Qiao En hurriedly composed herself and pressed the answer button.
“Secretary Qiao, there’s news about the person you asked me to investigate, let’s meet and talk,” he said.
Detective Wu’s voice was kept low, he quickly finished speaking, hung up the phone, and sent the time and place for the meeting to Qiao En’s cell phone.
Two o’clock in the afternoon.
The convenience store next to Rong City train station.
Qiao En showed up at the convenience store at the appointed time, but did not see Detective Wu’s figure.
“Miss, would you like some cigarettes?”
As Qiao En was looking around for Detective Wu, a middle-aged woman dressed in plus-size women’s clothing approached her.
Qiao En waved her hand, but the woman didn’t leave, instead, she leaned close to Qiao En’s ear and said, “I put the stuff behind the third row of shelves.”
The voice was that of Detective Wu.
Qiao En was startled; she had not expected Detective Wu to disguise himself as a woman.
Detective Wu walked out of the convenience store as if nothing was out of the ordinary, to an outsider, she had no interaction with Qiao En whatsoever.
Qiao En did as he said and found the envelope behind the third row of shelves, she stuffed the envelope into her small bag and quickly left the convenience store.
Detective Wu walked towards the square, and Qiao En followed.
He found a bench to sit down on, pulled out a mirror from his bag to touch up his makeup, while Qiao En squatted down behind the bench, pretending to tie her shoelaces.
“The woman’s name is Su Nian, she just came to Rong City two months ago, you can take a good look at those photos I gave you. However, I’ve discovered that she seems to have already known Director Zhou, to be precise, she should be his ex-girlfriend.”
Qiao En was stunned; she had never heard of Zhou Jin’an having an ex-girlfriend.
She carefully pulled out the photos from the envelope, and with just one glance, she believed it.
In the photo, the woman who looked exactly like her was leaning into Zhou Jin’an’s embrace, smiling with her eyes curved blissfully.
And Zhou Jin’an, who was known for his stern demeanor as King Yan, he was smiling exceptionally brightly as well.
She had never seen him smile like that before, his face, his eyes, all radiating a warm light.
And that light, in turn, became sharp swords, plunging straight into Qiao En’s heart.
“Have you found out anything else?”
Qiao En put the photos back into the envelope with forced calmness to cover the turmoil inside her.
“Nothing for now, I will contact you if there’s anything new.”
After saying this, Detective Wu put away the makeup mirror, stood up, adjusted his skirt, and walked away swinging his hips.
Qiao En squatted there until her legs went numb.
There was no sun that day, and with the sky overcast, Qiao En felt as if there was a rock weighing on her chest, struggling to breathe.
Su Nian was Zhou Jin’an’s ex-girlfriend, and she shared an identical face with Su Nian.
This was no coincidence.
Qiao En remembered what Mrs. Zhou had said when she found her three years ago, she had said, “Qiao En, don’t waste your face.”
At that time, Qiao En was naive, she thought Mrs. Zhou was complimenting her looks.
To get close to Zhou Jin’an, to become his woman, how could she catch his eye without a beautiful face?
So, for the past three years, she had never thought too much about it.
But at this moment, Qiao En suddenly understood.
It turned out, she was not just a pawn of Mrs. Zhou, she was also a stand-in for Su Nian.
She won over Zhou Jin’an in just a month, not because of her charm, but because this stand-in was too similar to the real thing.
Qiao En was reminded of Zhou Jin’an’s words, he had said, “Give me a little time, now is not the right moment.”
He clearly had the power to confront An Corporation, yet he did nothing. It turned out, it wasn’t that he couldn’t do it, he just didn’t want to do it. A stand-in, naturally, was there to take the blame and the misfortune.
Qiao En took the photo out of the envelope once again.
Under the gloomy sky, the handsome man and beautiful woman in the photo were laughing unusually happily.
As if they had foreseen the future, they seemed to mock her for being a fool.
