Chapter 952: Chapter 42 Heavenly Demon [Combined 2]_2
Before the words had even finished, a series of rattling sounds like gnashing teeth filled the air, and the skulls of all the corpses present began to emanate light from their cranial apertures as they shakily stood upright, swaying as though they were zombies. Even the one Chu Liang had knocked away was enveloped in a black glow, its remains coalescing once more into a complete skeleton.
In the blink of an eye, the group of four found themselves surrounded.
Facing the numerous and bizarre demonic bodies before him, Chu Liang blinked and turned to the Elder Azure Dragon beside him, "Venerable Azure Dragon, are you still just standing by and waiting for your turn?"
His stance was clear, if he was going to lean on others, he would see it through to the end.
The Venerable Azure Dragon fell into silence for a moment and then said, "You all could help out a bit as well."
...
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!
The great battle erupted in an instant without any delay.
The corpses that had just awakened were sluggish and not quite bright, but now that they had all revived, they transformed into beings with towering Demonic Qi, and both their strength and speed were greatly enhanced.
Daoist Yan summoned the Xiaoyun Ancient Sword, Cai Yi lashed out with her Nine-Tailed Fox form, and Venerable Azure Dragon roared, using his Dragon Claws on both sides, forcefully repelling the demonic bodies that were closing in.
No matter how powerful the enemy, they struggled to get within thirty feet.
But these demonic bodies seemed unkillable, constantly reforming after being shattered. In just a moment, the group had destroyed them countless times, and yet they were still charging back into the fight. The combined force of their attacks was so strong that even the group could not ignore it.
Chu Liang assisted from behind the lines, occasionally lending a hand, though he did so sparingly, appearing somewhat idle. Of course, even if he had exerted himself, he certainly couldn’t compare with the three great powers.
After a while of this back and forth, the Venerable Azure Dragon suddenly lifted his tail and swept away a large group of demonic bodies, then shouted loudly, "Something’s not right! I think I know what’s going on."
He pointed behind them at the tower and said, "This must be an ancient Buddhist pagoda used to suppress demons with Shariputra. It contains the condensed cultivation of powerful monks who fell here, forming an array to suppress the demons. The cultivators from the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands must have entered without realizing and taken the Shariputra away!"
"As a result, the ancient demons lost their suppression, their power was released, and these people were all annihilated here!"
Being older and more experienced, the Venerable Azure Dragon’s guess was not far off the mark.
This place was once a Buddhist tower in the Upper Realm used to suppress demonic creatures. After falling into the lower world, its power remained. But when the team from the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands arrived, those people, seeing the spiritual abundance of the Shariputra on the walls and its invaluable quality after such a long time, immediately vied to pick them off.
They were killed here before they could leave, with only a few desperately escaping with their lives.
"If that’s the case, then what’s suppressed here isn’t some ancient demon but a Heavenly Demon that fell from the Upper Realm!" Daoist Yan’s brow furrowed as he stood focused, "Shall I call the Divine Ship?"
"There’s no need for now," said Cai Yi, raising her hand, "The Heavenly Demon has already left; we just need to fight our way out. Summoning a Divine Artifact into the Thousand Buildings Valley would make too much noise, and it might attract unnecessary trouble."
Having said that, she suddenly turned her body, and her entire fox form manifested, transforming into a Nine-Tailed Fox dozens of feet tall!
The group had not used their full strength because the situation was unclear, but now that they understood, they unleashed their true might! Even though physical combat was her weakest area, she was still incredibly fierce.
Seeing this, the Venerable Azure Dragon also transformed, his giant dragon body stretching across the field, ideal for dealing with these mindless close-range demonic bodies.
A rumbling crush ensued, and a large number of demonic bodies were shattered. Yet, the demonic Shariputra emitted light again, attempting to reform.
Daoist Yan acted instantly, slashing out with a mighty sword strike!
Hisss—
With one slash, he split three demonic Shariputra, and their glow faded immediately, dropping to the ground.
The three powerful beings worked together, two in close combat and one providing support from a distance, and after a short while, they completely cleared all the demonic bodies in the area.
It was fortunate they were each top experts in the Eighth Realm because anyone weaker wouldn’t have resolved these demonic bodies so effortlessly.
Huu—
When the dust had settled, Daoist Yan surveyed the area with his sword, then said, "There should be no danger here now."
"There’s no danger anymore, but..." Chu Liang looked at the broken bones and ashes before him with a pained expression, "the corpses of the elders have been destroyed as well."
As for magical storage tools or anything of the like, they were nowhere to be found.
Unless he spent an entire day painstakingly searching this area, he might be able to find those lost items from the Qiankun rifts.
"At this point, we can’t afford to worry about too much," said the Venerable Azure Dragon, who had transformed back into human form. "Let’s go. These are just underlings; there’s bound to be more danger ahead."
"Is that Heavenly Demon still here?" Chu Liang asked with a stern look.
"It’s very possible," Venerable Azure Dragon nodded and said, "If it had left, the Demonic Qi here would have gradually weakened, and these Shariputras and demonic bodies wouldn’t be so formidable. If I’m not mistaken, it’s still using this place as its nest, only leaving occasionally."
"I want to see just how formidable this Upper Realm Heavenly Demon really is," said Daoist Yan, striding to the front and stepping out of the courtyard.
Naturally, she was aware that such demonic beings needed to be sealed and suppressed in the Upper Realm, and hence were incredibly formidable. But with the Shu Mountain Divine Boat in hand, her confidence was well-founded.
Unless it was a Ninth Realm God, she believed she could face anyone in battle.
"Caution is paramount," Cai Yi reminded them. "It seems this Heavenly Demon is extremely skilled at turning people into demons. We must remember not to separate, or else we might end up as its puppets."
Chu Liang said, "We’re also approaching the center of Thousand Buildings Valley soon. This area is vast; we might not be so unlucky as to encounter it."
...
"Why don’t we split up? I can’t take this anymore."
A gust of wind blew past as Elder Cang Qiu and Daoist Cang Yun lay side by side under a strange tree in the mist, looking utterly miserable.
Elder Cang Qiu’s arm was broken and dangled limply, the entire left side of his body collapsed inward, sporting a bloody hole the size of a fist in his abdomen. Through it, one could see the roots of the tree behind. His clothing was soaked through with blood, the skull crushed in on one side.
Daoist Cang Yun’s face was in a slightly better state, but his lower half was almost gone; his legs had disappeared entirely, and it was a mystery what kept his body upright on the ground, though he stood surprisingly straight.
From the front, he looked decent enough, but from the back, one could see his back peppered with bronze arrows, shimmering with light.
Both practitioners were of Eighth Realm cultivation. If these were ordinary injuries, they could regenerate their bodies in a breath. However, the entity that caused their injuries was a terrifying existence not inferior to themselves, so there was a constant flow of Spiritual Power preventing their wounds from healing, stripping away their lives.
If they couldn’t treat their injuries promptly, even the vast longevity of an Eighth Realm cultivator would not withstand such steady depletion.
This was why Elder Cang Qiu wanted to give up.
And the reason they fell into such a state was because Cang Yun had blindly trusted Cai Yi’s method of passing the trial and attempted to use the same method to break through at the Heavenly Martial Sect.
As a result, they were chased by a gang of fierce men from the Heavenly Martial Sect who wanted to seize their physical bodies, and they were pursued for miles. They only barely escaped thanks to the fact that those fierce spirits could not leave the Heavenly Martial Sect’s domain.
"You’ve forgotten that you were the one who insisted on retrieving the Immortal Tower Secret Treasure," said Daoist Cang Yun weakly. "Now you want to give up."
"At first, I bought into your nonsense, truly thinking we could follow behind them and reap the benefits." Elder Cang Qiu glared at Cang Yun, "And what happened?"
"Why are you glaring at me?" Daoist Cang Yun raised his eyebrows, "Can you blame me? It was the same method, if the fox spirit could pass through, why couldn’t we? Isn’t this being singled out?!"
"I don’t care if you’re being singled out or not. I just want to leave this place," Elder Cang Qiu shouted.
"Alright, alright!" Daoist Cang Yun said irritably, "In this state, I can’t go back for another try either, let’s go!"
"Leave?" Suddenly, a sinister chuckle came from behind, "Why leave? Isn’t it nice here?"
"Hmm?" Both of them simultaneously turned their heads in horror.
The Illusion Fields and spirits here, although formidable, could not leave their own domains upon death, falling within the category of earthbound spirits.
This area was considered a three-way stand-off zone on the map of Thousand Buildings Valley, and certainly, no spirits should have come. When did spirits that could leave freely appear, or had Chu Liang and the others found the two of them?
Either possibility was terrifying for them in their current state!
When they turned around, they were met with a dreadful shadow. The surging Demonic Qi was like an ocean, accompanied by a heavy, sinister laughter.
"Embrace my Demonic Mother’s bosom, taste the sorrows of life,"
"White Bone Relics, Skeleton Walker."
"Better than a mere mortal frame, come with me, come with me..."
