Chapter 948: Chapter 41 Where’s My Knife? [Two in One]

Mists enshrouded the land, with lights flickering ahead.

After leaving the "Xuanle Celestial Sect," the group proceeded at a slow pace for a while until they saw the fog ahead gradually dissipate, revealing a brightly lit tavern. Inside, where cups and dishes clinked together, bursts of rich aroma wafted out.

Through the windows of the tavern, one could see a burly man at the center of the main hall, with a headscarf and apron, his muscular frame swinging back and forth to the rhythm of butchering meat. In his hand shone a bright kitchen knife, and on the cutting board before him was a fresh red bone, being sliced with precise cuts.

Clank, clank, clank, clank!

As Chu Liang and the others approached, more than ten colorfully dressed Servants immediately swarmed out, surrounding the group while continuously calling out, "Immortals, please come and taste our Cloud Delicacies Hall’s dishes!"

"You won’t find such delicious food even if you travel a hundred thousand miles further."

"Unique in all the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands."

"..."

These Servants had smiles on their faces that were so brilliant they were somewhat sinister, forcibly pushing the group into the tavern. Meanwhile, the head chef continued to chop his bones, not once raising his head.

Clank, clank, clank, clank...

"Enjoy your meal, esteemed immortals," the Servants said as they served tea and water, tending to their every need. In just a moment, they brought out plates of dishes that were appealing in color, smell, and taste.

Yet the chef kept on chopping the bone, without any sign of where these dishes were coming from.

Chu Liang stared at the bone being chopped, not knowing what it was, and felt an inexplicable shiver. Naturally, he dared not eat a single bite of the food here.

But merely abstaining from eating was not enough. Suddenly, the chef raised his head and stared fiercely at the group, demanding, "Why aren’t you eating?!"

The group remained silent, simply turning to look at him together.

"Why don’t you eat? Do you think my cooking is not good enough?" the chef said, brandishing the knife blade in his hand menacingly.

"What food?" Cai Yi, who had been looking around and observing for some time, suddenly asked.

"Isn’t it right there on your table?" the chef retorted.

"The table is clearly empty, there’s nothing on it," Cai Yi replied quickly, staring into his eyes.

"Nothing?" The chef scratched his head, his gaze suddenly filled with doubt, "Alright, I’ll make you another portion."

Saying this, he lifted the knife again and continued to chop at the bone.

"But there’s nothing on your chopping block either. What are you chopping?" Cai Yi asked again.

"What..." Hearing her question, the chef’s eyes went blank, and he took two steps back, "Nothing? What..."

Another loud clank shook the place, and in the blink of an eye, the rowdy tavern transformed into a decrepit hole, dark and ruined. All bright colors turned into sinister shades, leaving only the tall skeleton standing among shattered wood and broken tables, holding a rusted pointed knife.

"Daoist Master Wanxiang really is formidable. I fear there is no illusion field in the world that can entrap you," even Venerable Azure Dragon couldn’t help saying.

It was possible for them to break out of this illusion field with force, but even for cultivators of the Eighth Realm, there would be a cost. Otherwise, the exploration team from the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands would not have ended up with only one person gravely injured and barely escaping.

To find the nodes of the illusion field like Cai Yi and break it, she was probably the only one in the world who could accomplish this.

"Each path in this world has its own strengths. There are things that Taiyi Avenue can do that I simply cannot," Cai Yi said with a light chuckle, standing up ready to leave.

"Wait," said Chu Liang, glancing at the skeleton, "It won’t come back to life, will it?"

"If no new living being approaches, it shouldn’t," Cai Yi replied, but she was a bit puzzled, wondering why Chu Liang would ask such a thing.

Chu Liang then dashed forward, stopped in front of the skeletal remains, and muttered, "Predecessor chef, you have passed many years ago. You probably wouldn’t want your treasure blade to be buried and forgotten in the dirt. I see that this knife still has a sharp edge and spirituality; it likely desires to shine as a weapon. I will take this knife and ensure its fame. If you are willing, there is no need for further words. If you are not, please blink your eyes."

He looked at the rotten remains and the hollow sockets that didn’t even have eyeballs, let alone eyelids, paused for a moment, and then bowed deeply, "Great are your virtues, predecessor."

After saying this, he grabbed the knife in the palm of the skeletal hand. It didn’t come free at first, and with a great clank, he managed to wrench the knife free only after much effort.

However, the right wrist of the skeleton seemed a bit droopy, as though it had broken.

After centuries, the bones of this powerful being had decayed to the point of being barely intact, yet this kitchen knife only had some mottled rust. Moreover, the rust on it was imbued with spirituality of precious materials, attesting to the high grade of the knife.

Where there is danger, there must be treasures; if not, one simply lacks the eyes to see them.

However, on his return, the others looked at him with strange expressions, as if... the Shushan people were looking at Empress Feng.

Chu Liang felt insulted, "Why are you looking at me like that? I just didn’t want the treasure to be neglected. Is that wrong?"

...

Two cold winds, carrying a swirling tone.

Daoist Cang Yun sat cross-legged on the ground, bloodied all over, especially the hole in his chest that had just dried up. Through the dark red holes, one could even see his still-beating organs, a frightful sight indeed.

Daoist Elder Cang Qiu wasn’t in much better shape either. His upper body, including his face, was covered with claw marks, with golden red wounds that looked like centipedes tangled together.

Just now, the Child from Xuanle Celestial Sect had lashed out, making these two Eighth Realm powers look extremely disheveled. It took an enormous effort, equivalent to the strength of nine oxen and two tigers, for them to finally subdue him.
