Chapter 860: Chapter 70: Visiting the Heavenly Palace [Vote for monthly pass!]
Boom crack—
A dragon-shaped thunderbolt, swift and powerful, descended from the sky, splitting the dark heavens in two as it crashed upon a towering mountain. It looked magnificent and imposing, yet the peak merely showed a shallow crater, surrounded by countless similar shallow depressions.
Such a divine thunder, had it fallen on a common mountain, would have been enough to blast the entire peak into dust. Insignificant here only because this was no ordinary stone mountain, but a mysterious Demon Mountain, full of spirituality. Its stone walls bore the traces of white bones, testifying to the countless corpses it had swallowed at some unknown time.
There was no other sign of life on the mountain, save for a Heaven Lifting Giant wood. That old tree, with its crown shading the sky and blocking the sun, seemed to be sucking spiritual power from the Demon Mountain, its crown brimming with bulging blood vessels. The Demon Mountain appeared helpless against this parasitic giant wood.
This was a scene reminiscent of the end of days, yet within Shenxu, it was merely an ordinary corner. This forbidden land was filled with lethal dangers, posing a challenge even for Eighth Realm cultivators.
On that giant wood were many black, spiked balls, each looking extremely eerie.
Chu Liang watched, finding them somewhat familiar.
Wasn’t this the same type as the Ghost Tree not far from Shu Mountain? It looked like the same species, only this one was much larger. The Ghost Tree, absorbing wandering souls, would produce black fur balls with spirituality, which could bear berry seeds in the White Pagoda, contributing greatly to his early fortune.
Remembering the verdant days of his youth spent seeking seeds, Chu Liang felt rather nostalgic.
So, the origin of such a peculiar plant lay within Shenxu.
A group of four people deactivated their barrier and stepped into Shenxu, faced immediately with such a scene. Immortal Qi Jing, the last to enter, glanced upward and said, "That’s the direction we’re heading."
"Hmm?" Chu Liang shuddered and looked up.
Boom crack—
Another divine thunder struck down from the depths of the clouds, this time outside the Demon Mountain, carving a massive deep hole several dozen zhang wide into the land below, its depth unfathomable.
This land, crisscrossed by ravines, had surely been created by the relentless strikes of divine thunder.
"Following the guidance of ancient texts and various verifications, as well as searching in Shenxu for several years, I am certain that the Sword Domain Heavenly Palace is right above these thunderclouds," Immortal Qi Jing stated with conviction.
"How do we get up there?" Chen Erniu asked as well.
Even they wouldn’t be able to withstand the power of that divine thunder if struck by it.
"I had two ideas," Immortal Qi Jing said, "One was to use wood to attract the thunder, drawing the divine thunder to the Ghost Tree; the other was to use metal to attract the thunder, drawing it to a copper column. However, the copper column made of special materials was extremely difficult and dangerous to refine. In the end, using wood to attract thunder is a bit more convenient."
As he spoke, he had already taken out four white jade talismans.
Each jade talisman, made of such materials, could carry an entire rune array. He soared up into the air and expertly threw the four jade talismans around the Ghost Tree.
Whoosh—
The light from the talismans connected, enveloping the giant wood. The giant Ghost Tree, detecting danger, started to frantically swing its branches, reaching out with claw-like twigs in an attack at Immortal Qi Jing.
But he, swift as the wind, naturally wouldn’t be harmed by the tree.
Once the formation was in place, he changed the seal technique with his hands, and the Ghost Tree was immediately covered in a layer of white light. The divine thunder in the sky, as if guided by some force, thunderously crashed onto the Ghost Tree!
The Immortal Light Thunder Attraction Formation.
Immortal Qi Jing, with the advantage of his Immortal Spirit Body, nearly mastered all divine skills of the world; his proficiency in array techniques was equally high. Such a large formation was but a trifle for him.
Boom crack—
This strike shattered all the giant black fur balls on the Ghost Tree, making Chu Liang wince subconsciously. The tree itself seemed not to suffer much damage, its defenses strong, but soon another divine thunder struck down.
Boom crack—
At this time, the four had already leapt into the air and swiftly passed through the thunderclouds. Crashing into the dark, ink-like clouds at close range felt like colliding with a wall made of solid metal, with a loud bang each.
The Divine Thunder exploded right by their ears, its terrifying power chilling to the bone. Thankfully, the Ghost Tree withstood everything; otherwise, no matter how advanced their cultivation, they wouldn’t possibly fly up to this place. The passage through was brief, and soon they were above the clouds.
The mass of thunderclouds under their feet was as solid as the earth itself. Looking up, they saw an exceedingly bright white light!
There indeed was a structure above!
The light from the structure was completely obscured by the thunderclouds, failing to shine down, or else it would have resembled a mini sun. The sun was untouchable, and so was this palace.
Even from such a distance, the intense light infused with hot spiritual power began to cause Chu Liang’s skin to sting. If he were to get closer, he feared he would evaporate and melt from the scorching brilliance.
His cultivation level allowed him to dominate in the outside world, yet inside Shenxu, he repeatedly faced life-threatening dangers.
This land was terrifying indeed!
Stranger still, between them and the source of that intense light, there appeared to be several dark silhouettes lying prostrate on the ground, their fates unknown.
"Someone got here first?" Jiang Yuebai said in surprise and doubt.
"It’s quite normal; we can’t be the only ones aware of this place," said Immortal Qi Jing. "It all comes down to ability."
With that, he expanded a black banner with a whoosh—
Upon its unfurling, a wave of dark light enveloped them, hiding their figures from the direct glare of the strong light.
"The Absolute Yang Banner?" Chen Erniu exclaimed in surprise. "Did you snatch it from the Demon Sect?"
The item was easy to recognize, the Absolute Yang Banner, ranked seventy-sixth among the Magical Treasures in the Ten Thousand Treasures Record, a Demonic Weapon passed down within the Demon Sect. Once deployed, the Magic Artifact within its vicinity would block out all yang energy, causing living beings and vegetation to perish in moments.
Now, Immortal Qi Jing had reversed its purpose, using it to block the range of the severe light. It was clear that he had come well-prepared for this place.
"Snatch?" Immortal Qi Jing spoke indifferently. "I went there to ’confiscate’ it."
This familiar tone couldn’t help but remind Chu Liang of his master. To be targeted by such an unscrupulous figure was just unfortunate for the Demonic cultivator who had possessed the Absolute Yang Banner.
Under the protection of the Absolute Yang Banner’s power, they cautiously moved forward, afraid to move too quickly in case they collided with too strong a spiritual force.
Soon, they arrived beside the figures they had seen before.
It looked like there were five people, holding up a large black umbrella, seemingly another Magical Treasure that isolated yang spiritual power, but not as powerful as the Absolute Yang Banner. Their cultivation was lower, and they were unable to advance any further midway, so they could only prop the black umbrella in front of them; all five were huddled in the shadow on the ground, appearing completely exhausted, with no strength left to return.
Originally, Chu Liang and his party had no intention of dealing with these fellow travelers.
After all, in a treasure-laden place filled with danger, it wasn’t the time to indiscriminately offer sympathy. Those who came here were all daring and desperate, who knew if the person you saved would turn around and bite you? Even if you wanted to save them, it would have to wait until everything was over. Whether they would still be alive by then would depend on fortune.
While cruel, that was the rule of exploring Secret Realms. No matter how much civilization the Nine States Land had developed, once in a Secret Realm, the law of the wilderness always applied.
Real and ruthless.
Yet, as Chu Liang passed by, he glanced over and suddenly saw a familiar face. That face lifted, seemingly reaching out their hand, begging for rescue.
"Huh?" Chu Liang looked at the face, halted his steps, and said, "Uncle Yin?"
