Chapter 683: Chapter 42 I still have [Monthly Tickets! Please!] _1
Over the vast turbulent sea, this distant and elusive song was at the same time distinctly clear, sending chills down one’s spine once heard.
But Old Wang was not one to tolerate these shenanigans, he promptly shouted: "What monster lurks and reveals its tail!"
The Demon-slaying Sword was bought by Chu Liang at an auction, but he had no objections to it now being wielded by Wang Xuanling. The reason was simple; the strongest weapon should naturally be in the hands of the strongest person to maximize its power.
As the head of all Shu Mountain Peaks and having fought in the North and South for hundreds of years, no one dared to bare their teeth at Wang Xuanling, except for Empress Feng.
Wang Xuanling brandished the Demon-slaying Sword and made a cut through the air, transforming the wind and clouds instantaneously. The demonic aura in the sky shattered as a grand Sword Qi was directed at the location of the song, rupturing the marine mist and wind along the way, creating hundred miles of clear skies.
They could faintly see a charming figure standing on a square rock, seemingly singing, but they didn’t have time for a second glance.
Because the moment the song stopped, two red orbs rose from the foggy sea in front of them, like a pair of enormous lanterns, or fallen stars.
As these two balls of red light gradually approached, what lay behind them started to appear. It was a city wall covered in scales, like a towering city?
No...
Chu Liang spread his Divine Sense and finally saw the true form of the approaching entity.
It was an enormously large head! Approaching them was a whale with a round head and body covered in scales, which made it look incredibly terrifying.
On the whale, there was a vague black figure holding a huge black banner. As the banner was waved, several ink-black dragon souls appeared and led the charge through the sea.
"That’s the Gobi Desert Cloud Dragon Banner!" Wang Xuanling immediately recognized, "No wonder it stirred up the Southern Sea!"
This item was so famous that Chu Liang had naturally heard of it. It was ranked 94th as a Magic Artifact in the current Ten Thousand Treasures Record. The reason for its low rank was because it lacked combat strength, but it had the powerful ability to turn rivers and seas upside down.
At this moment, the large scale tsunamis were testament to the banner’s power.
But this treasure should always be kept as a relic in the Sea King Sect, how did it end up in the hands of these sea demons of unknown origin?
While pondering, the figure waved the banner from afar towards them.
Boom, boom, boom——
The sea and the sky merged together, and a huge wave immediately engulfed the two of them. Wang Xuanling cut through the wave with his Demon-slaying Sword and easily shattered the water curtain.
"I’ll go and kill this villain!" Said Wang Xuanling, holding the Divine Sword, ready to move forward.
But Chu Liang had sharp eyes. He noticed a minute golden light in the waves, carrying a hint of dragon breath, moving towards them.
Thanks to his sensitivity to dragon breath, Chu Liang detected its target - the two of them.
He reached out and caught it. It turned out to be a lively golden loach. Wang Xuanling saw it and immediately said: "This is Ziyang’s spirit pet. It is most proficient in tracking people’s aura in the water."
"Oh?" Chu Liang’s eyes brightened, "So Senior Brother Xu left it to lead us the way?"
Saying so, he threw the golden loach, and it turned into a golden light and darted off into the distance.
Wang Xuanling glanced at the giant whale, snorted and said: "Ziyang is important, let’s spare this one’s life for now."
Time was of the essence, so the two followed the golden light into the sea and plunged down to the seabed, not daring to slow down even for a bit. After some distance, they suddenly saw a huge whirlpool in front forming rapidly, its inside being impossible to observe.
The golden loach made a swift dive into it. It seemed that Xu Ziyang had also entered here. But before he did, he had let loose this golden loach to guide the way.
Bang, bang!
Without hesitation, the two followed suit. They felt a rumbling sound in their ears as their bodies seemed to pass through a Secret Realm barrier, after which they landed heavily on the ground.
Chu Liang quickly got back to his feet and looking ahead, said in surprise," "This place is...."
"Ruins!" Wang Xuanling solemnly said.
...
At this moment, they were in an ominous, vast, and grey land, filled with contiguous broken walls and buildings. Despite no accumulation of dust, given the level of damage, it was unknown how many years had passed. It seemed as if a light touch would reduce half of the wall into flying ashes.
Extending their Divine Sense forward, this group of buildings appeared to be endless, like a vast city. It couldn’t even be compared to the largest city in Nine States, Yu Capital City.
"It is rumored that the entrance to the ruins is in the deepest part of the Southern Sea, but it is open here now. Could this chaos be caused by the followers of the Ruins Shenxu?" Wang Xuanling murmured as he walked forward with his sword.
"Ruins Shenxu Sect?" Thanks to receiving a scroll painting of the South Sea Goddess Statue some time ago, Chu Liang had some understanding about it.
"I don’t know much about these people, but if anyone could stir up such a storm in the Southern Sea, it would probably be them."
Wang Xuanling and Chu Liang flew forward, finding the golden mudfish once again. Out of the water, its sense of smell seemed less sharp and its movements weren’t quite as flexible. But it continued on, flying for quite a while before it finally came to halt.
Up ahead, a bizarre structure came into view.
A three-story pavilion lay ahead, standing out eerily against the ancient ruins surrounding it. The building was preserved immaculately and exhibited an impressive amount of grandeur.
The golden mudfish circled the pavilion from a distance, hesitant to approach it as though sensing some lurking danger.
Wang Xuanling and Chu Liang decided to conceal themselves behind the ruins and took a sneak peek at the pavilion. The door was firmly closed, and not even their Divine Sense could penetrate it. It was impossible to ascertain what lay within.
"If Ziyang is imprisoned in there and we can’t find any entrance, then I will take out my sword and force my way in", said Wang Xuan Ling after a few rounds of observation.
"Senior Uncle, please be patient, let’s keep watching." Chu Liang calmly advised. "If Senior Brother Xu is truly in enemy hands, we must be careful not to alert our enemies prematurely."
As the two of them were surveying the area, they suddenly noticed a cluster of dark clouds drifting past. They immediately held their breath and tunned all their senses to examine the situation closely.
As the dark clouds landed, they transformed into a group of four or five individuals, all dressed in black. Leading the group was a middle-aged man with a cold, emotionless face, and eyes that sparkled with a trace of sinister light.
Chu Lian recognized him upon looking at the man and felt a sense of familiarity.
The man stepped forward and knocked on the pavilion’s main door. Thud, thud, thud.
After a few knocks, the door creaked open revealing two demonic creatures. One was entirely armored in red, sporting a monstrous head and enormous eyes. The other one looked human, save for its arms, which were enormous claws.
It turned out to be a shrimp and a crab. As soon as the door opened, they began speaking in strange modulated voices, "Who goes there?" The man in black didn’t say much, but simply raised and unrolled a painting scroll.
Upon seeing this, the two creatures immediately fell to their knees and began chanting, "Blessings upon the God Mother."
After some time spent in prostration, they rose up, "It is Sect Master Yuan, isn’t it? Mr. Navy has been waiting for you."
With that, they led the group inside.
Seeing the situation unfold, Wang Xuanling frowned, "It seems those people are demonic cultivators. Are they also involved in this matter?"
"That guy is the leader of the Demon Sect of the Western Sea, Immortal Yuan Lu," Chu Liang replied.
He had previously seen Immortal Yuan Lu within the Mirror Sky Eight Diagrams and recognized him immediately. However, the man before them didn’t seem to be a cultivator of the Eighth Realm; he was probably an avatar.
People of the Demon Sect tend to be more crafty and cautious, rarely revealing their true selves unless they hold immense confidence in their abilities - like the Sect Master of the Underworld King Sect, who was certain no one could detain him.
Otherwise, they would act like Purple Gold Marquis, acting through avatars.
After some thought, Chu Liang added, "Senior Uncle, I have a plan that should allow the two of us to sneak in."
"What is it?" Wang Xuanling eagerly asked.
Chu Liang’s capabilities were never questioned by the Shushan people. If he said he could do something, he definitely could. Chu Liang took out a black robe that concealed one’s aura and a necromancer command order he had obtained from Xuan Yinzi. "You pose as Xuan Yinzi, the former sect-leader of the Demon Sect. I gathered the same painting while dealing with him, and since he has been missing for decades, no one should recognize him."
Wang Xuanling was aware that Chu Liang and Empress Feng had once killed Xuan Yinzi, though Chu Liang had warned him not to spread it around.
But killing a person discretely felt like sneaking around in broad daylight.
Killing a former Sect Leader was a big deal. Not telling other people was doable, but not telling Wang Xuanling was absolutely unacceptable.
The day Empress Feng came to Jade Sword Peak to ask Wang Xuan Ling if she could succeed the status of Peak Leader if she killed the Sect Master, he thought she was joking and irritably said she could.
Then, Empress Feng revealed her triumph.
After a long discussion about whether killing a former Sect Leader counted, with Empress Feng confidently proclaiming that slaying a former Sect Leader was no different than killing the current one and comparing it to having children with his ex-wife. After the debate, her killing Xuan Yinzi remained a secret, yet the gossip about Wang Xuan Ling having an ex-wife and a child, whom he didn’t father, spread widely across Shushan.
Wang Xuanling donned the black robe, took the command order, and looked at Chu Liang, "Since you gave this disguise to me, what about you?"
"No problem," Chu Liang calmly responded, taking out another robe and a separate token - from Purple Gold Marquis, "I have another one."
