Chapter 682: Chapter 41: Turmoil in the Southern Sea [Requesting monthly tickets!]_1
"Is this the work of a Sea Demon?"
Suspended high above the Vast South Sea, Xu Ziyang was staring at the serene depth of the ocean. He spread out his Divine Sense considerably far, but didn’t detect any signs of anomaly.
Clad in Gold Embroidery Pure White Scabbard uniform, he stood tall; his handsome face had hardly changed except for a much deeper light in his eyes. He, who used to be sharp as an unsheathed sword, now seemed more like a Treasure Sword that had been put away, his brilliance subtly concealed.
The one thing that remained unchanged was his forever straight spine; standing there, he was like a towering flag at sea.
"Sea Demons are unlike those on land. When Demonic Creatures cause malice, their aura is quickly carried away by seawater, making traces hard to track," said a junior disciple standing beside him.
Following him were three young men and women who appeared to be in their late teens, each blessed with remarkable talents. One of them, a gentle young girl, was looking at Xu Ziyang’s back with starry admiration in her eyes.
They had all grown up hearing tales about Xu Ziyang, and this dazzling senior brother sparked in each of them a strong sense of reverence.
From that glorious generation six years ago, Chu Liang and Jiang Yuebai had left early, their figures lingering only in legends. Conversely, Xu Ziyang had been a tangible presence for the younger generation of Shu Mountain.
"The Demonic Aura can be carried off, but the scent of blood cannot be erased," Xu Ziyang murmured as he pulled out a palm-sized bronze kettle from his chest.
He opened the kettle, and a tiny gold Spirit Beast, which looked like a loach, was released. He slicked his palm and dropped the golden loach into the sea.
A golden light swirled thrice in the depths before rapidly plunging south, speeding more the further it went.
"Follow!"
Xu Ziyang shouted commandingly, darting forward.
The three disciples were preparing to perform a water spell, but suddenly the Longsword on Xu Ziyang’s back drew itself with a clang. In the blink of an eye, it transformed into a Sword Aura that split the sea apart to pave the way, allowing the disciples to follow at their own speed.
Boom, boom, boom.
They were literally cutting through the waves!
With this stunning feat, not only was the female disciple amazed, but even the male disciples’ eyes shone with admiration.
Isn’t such freedom what every young Cultivator aspires to?
No matter the terrain – sea, land, or sky – I will pave my way with a single blow of the sword.
As the golden loach dived deeper, the surrounding sea was becoming increasingly dark. Yet, Xu Ziyang’s True Qi was seemingly limitless, not showing any signs of waning.
After a while, a massive shadow was discernible up ahead.
A half-torn three-story ship was entwined with dense water plants. Half of a fish fin lay atop the ship. In comparison, the ship looked like a toy.
The fin belonged to a colossal black fish lounging in the deep sea. Its body was covered in Scale Armor emitting a dull glow, its Spirituality quite impressive.
Rarely would one see such a huge creature on land; it was much larger than a mountain peak in Shu Mountain. The young disciples couldn’t help but gasp at the sight.
"This monster has stirred up the sea and dragged away the ship..." Xu Ziyang’s eyes glowed as if lit by a torch, penetrating the icy sea water. Their mission was indeed to find the missing ship, which now, he was certain, was swallowed by this fish.
Boom —
The giant seemed to have detected Xu Ziyang’s rising aura. Despite being no more than tiny specks of dust compared to his colossal size, the fear-inducing aura they emitted was too terrifying to ignore.
Defying its size, the beast twisted around effortlessly, opened its jaws wide, and with a terrifying hum, a huge wave erupted, threatening to engulf the disciples.
The other disciples quickly scattered, but Xu Ziyang didn’t flinch. Instead, he challenged the gaping maw with his tiny form.
The sword was drawn.
Hiss —
An incredibly enormous Sword Aura slashed through the sea, bisecting the unimaginable body of the fish. The dull colored blood instantly spilled out from both sides of the fish.
The Heaven Lifting Sword!
Even though this Immortal Law was capable of amplifying a sword’s aura, to enhance it to this degree was quite rare. The disciples were in awe, as though they were witnessing a miracle. If it hadn’t been inconvenient underwater, they would’ve cheered and applauded for their senior brother.
Boom boom —
The massive cut body of the fish plummeted towards the sea bed. Moments later, muffled thuds indicated the resounding impact, setting off a ripple of waves. The entire seabed seemed to tremble.
Rumble —
"It’s so huge that its fall feels like an earthquake," one disciple jested.
"Yes, good thing that Senior Brother Xu’s sword is invincible," another joined in.
Rumble —
The violent tremors continued and intensified.
Sensing something amiss, the female disciple said apprehensively, "Doesn’t this feel like... an actual seabed earthquake?"
At that very moment, a faint chorus of eerie melody drifted towards them, seemingly from far-off yet so near. Countless restless auras surged rapidly closer, giving Xu Ziyang’s eyebrows a hardened lift.
"Something’s off, the South Sea is disturbed," he said, turning around. The sea sparkled with countless lantern-like eyes, converging on their figures.
"Get out of here!" he barked, "Return to Shu Mountain and report this!"
Crash!
...
"Senior Brother Xu took a few disciples to the South Sea to exorcise demons. They encountered the violent disruption of the South Sea, and countless Sea Demons emerged," Chu Liang said, "When the disciples departed to sea, the waters of the South Sea had already expanded several miles to shore! Accompanied by countless emerging Sea Demons, Senior Brother Xu is still at sea, he hasn’t resurfaced!"
"What?" Wang Xuanling abruptly stood up.
Zen Master Shenjie swiftly approached, asking, "What has happened?"
Chu Liang explained the situation again. Zen Master Shenjie inquired, "Such a great turmoil in the South Sea, could it be all the Immortal Sects haven’t received this news yet? Are you certain?"
"Absolutely certain. The news was sent out from our sect via the Cultivator’s Circle. Everyone present can see it," Chu Liang responded.
Those cultivating who got the news in the Cultivator’s Circle were nodding their heads, indicating they had seen the message.
Those who hadn’t could only watch enviously, suddenly feeling like they were alienated from the situation.
"Let me confirm this." Zen Master Shenjie’s gaze shifted; his eyes suddenly emitted two divine lights, looking far into the south.
Buddha’s Heavenly Eye.
When practiced to a profound level, its effectiveness is by no means inferior to that of Immortal Law. It carries the essence of the Immortal Law’s ability to perceive all things on earth and hear from afar.
"It truly is like this!" Zen Master Shenjie proclaimed.
At the same time, Abbot Da Yu reappeared. The old monk leisurely stated, "Thanks to the reminder from Warrior Chu, the trouble in the South Sea is not small. Our summit feast will temporarily be put on hold, given that everyone is here, we should all head to the South Sea."
"We are willing to accompany Abbot to go!" The crowd declared unanimously.
Such a collective action, for the most part, would not hold much danger, and would also bring the achievement of demon eradication. Why wouldn’t they agree?
Abbot Da Yu casually raised his hand, and under everyone’s feet, five-colored divine lotuses emerged, spreading their fragrant petals, lifting everyone in attendance upwards.
Suddenly a giant lotus flower appeared mid-air. The petals of this flower opened and closed, transforming instantly into a colorful lotus platform.
The divine artifact of Yunque Temple, the Law Lotus Platform!
In the battle of Shu Mountain years ago, Yunque Temple graciously lent a hand, using the Law Lotus Platform to stand against the true body of Ksitigarbha. In Shu Mountain’s view, it was a great favor.
The disciples of Shu Mountain naturally had deep impressions of this.
Once everyone was encased within the Law Lotus Platform, they felt a sudden whirl, with the whistling wind in their ears. Just the blink of an eye, they had traversed thousands of miles away.
They were now above the tumultuous South Sea, the entire sea area emitting a massive thunderous roar. The seawater had already spread nearly ten miles to the shore, numerous coastal structures had been immersed.
In the expanded seawater, countless Demonic Creatures were revealing themselves.
The sea floor world was vast and seldom visited by humans; thus, the number of Demonic Creatures considerably outnumbered those on land and had a longer lifespan. However, because the concentration of spiritual energy was generally not high, their Cultivation wasn’t as formidable. Most Sea Demons would diminish greatly in power once they left the aquatic environment. Only within the water could they exhibit their full strength.
At this moment, along with the expansion of seawater, these Sea Demons found the opportunity to wreak havoc. The screams of horror were drowned out in the roaring sound, often accompanied by the howling of the Sea Demons.
"Immortal Sects, quickly act, rescue the people first, slay the demons and eradicate evil, halt the Sea Demons from advancing!" Abbot Da Yu, seeming frail before, now emanated a surge of buddha light, instantly appearing reborn like an Arhat.
A force difficult to describe swept across the South Sea coast.
Countless colorful petals fluttered down from the lotus platform, every petal could accurately locate a citizen, emitting a hazy glow to protect them from the Sea Demon’s harm.
With Abbot Da Yu’s power alone, he was able to protect almost all the survivors instantly.
The cultivators of the Immortal Sects also took immediate action, diving in to rescue the people and destroy the demons. Only at this moment did other sects outside of Shu Mountain finally begin to receive the news.
Thanks to the summit feast today that had gathered all the Immortal Sects, and to the fast message transmission of the Cultivator’s Circle. That’s why such a strong force could arrive immediately to deal with this crisis.
Otherwise, waiting for all Immortal Sects to receive the news and then mobilize enough people, probably 9 out of 10 coastal dwellers would have succumbed.
Why the South Sea, usually so tranquil, had suddenly erupted into chaos? No one knew.
Watching the demonic aura-filled deep sea, Wang Xuanling immediately stated, "I’ll go have a look."
"Master Wang!" Zen Master Shenjie tried to dissuade him, "The sea is filled with heavy demonic aura; we don’t know what lurks there. It’s not appropriate to risk it!"
"I know it’s dangerous in there..." Wang Xuanling conceded, "But my disciple is in there."
"I will accompany Master Wang!" Chu Liang stepped forward.
"Eldest Senior Brother is in there, I’m going too!" Lin Bei declared.
"Better you stay behind and provide support." Chu Liang said, "The waters are dangerous, if you go, I will have to protect you as well. If you don’t go, it’s like I have an extra hand."
Lin Bei blinked his eyes, so this is what it meant to be brothers?
Zen Master Shenjie saw the resolve in Wang Xuanling’s eyes; he paused but did not argue further. Instead, he took out the sword box.
Since Shu Mountain hadn’t paid yet, technically they shouldn’t be given the Demon-slaying Sword just yet. But Zen Master Shenjie directly handed it to Wang Xuanling, "Be careful."
"Thank you," With the Demon-slaying Sword in hand, Wang Xuanling did not say much. After thanking him, he turned around and plunged into the sea, chopping the waves as he went. Wherever he went, no Sea Demons needed to confront them directly, the scattered Sword Qi was enough to slay them.
Chu Liang followed closely behind. Enveloped by the gusty wind, he surprisingly didn’t fall behind too much.
In the blink of an eye, the two of them had already left the coast behind and ventured deep into the vast sea. At some point, the sky had darkened. In the dense night sky, stars and moon were nowhere to be found.
At that moment, a mysterious melody began to echo in their ears.
"Starlight spilled on the sea of blood, the moon shines on the stern of the bone ship~"
"Travelers, do not open your eyes, God Mother is watching you~"
