Pioneer of the Abyss: A Deepsea Livestreamed -
Book 1: Chapter 88
Aqua
The shark lets out another ringing sound that echoes throughout the water, seemingly expressing its rage. Then it opens its mouth and spews out more poison at me. Except this time the attack doesn’t have as much force, making it slower and easier to dodge.
After that the shark charges at me again. But since the maw shark is missing its fin, it ends up veering off course a little bit.
The corner of my lips quirk upwards a little bit out of my grimace when I manage to avoid the attack without the help of a tentacle. All because of its missing fin slowing it down and messing with its directions.
That doesn’t change the fact that it’s too fast for the tentacles to hit it now that it’s not surrounded by them. And it’s protecting its side by making sure not to expose it to me.
This shark is smart.
I briefly glance back at the city to find some of the reinforcements from the other cities finally beginning to arrive before attacking the monsters. But at the same time, the city’s barrier is almost destroyed even as the turrets on the outer ring buildings fire out of it at the monsters.
My attention is quickly drawn back to the shark when the water all around us suddenly begins to warp. Forming some sort of large current between me and it that the shark uses to shoot itself straight at me without even using its fins.
I quickly begin moving out of the way, but the shark is too fast, and it takes a chomp straight through my left arm at the shoulder. Cutting off the remainder of my left arm in the process.
Another cry of pain echoes out from me as my vision blurs. But I don’t let that stop me from taking advantage of the shark stopping right behind me by pushing through the pain and using the harpoon in my right hand to stab straight into its wounded side. Piercing a couple feet into the shark’s body in the process thanks to the lack of any scales to protect itself. The shark lets out another ringing sound in pain while trying frantically to throw me and the harpoon off. Only to fail miserably as it just drags the harpoon around as I keep ahold of it with my right hand. Feeling tears practically pouring out of my eyes from pain as I feel blood practically gushing out of my missing arm as the little scraps of flesh barely hanging on just swing around loosely in the water.
I don’t let it get to me though and push harder by shapeshifting to grow tentacles from my back that I stab into the shark’s wounded side. Making them chomp into the thing.
And when that doesn’t do much, I finally resort to the measure I’ve been avoiding for a while.
I transform my mouth into that of an Abyssal Orca’s before reaching my head forwards and chomping straight down onto the shark. Which successfully ends up with me chomping through its flesh at least several centimeters, allowing me to rip and tear off parts of its side.
The shark makes the ringing sound even louder now and flounders harder in its attempt to shake me off. But all that manages to do is shake my head, which is latched onto the shark’s side still. So it makes me tear at its flesh even harder.

I refrain from swallowing any of the flesh I tear off though.
Despite the fact that the shark for some reason tastes really good. Even raw.
Probably another effect of my Bloodlines.
I continue chomping down on the monster while holding onto the harpoon and occasionally pushing it deeper whenever it starts to come out. What with the less flesh to pierce into. But the shark’s movements are growing more rampant as it begins to swim into other monsters, into broken dungeons, and even into the barrier to slam me into them. Breaking dozens of bones in my body in the process.
And breaking the city’s barrier at last, making water flood the city along with numerous sharks and other monsters from the horde.
I feel more pain than anything I’ve ever felt flooding my body from all the injuries stacked on top of each other. Broken bones all over the place, a completely missing arm, and I’m not entirely sure, but possibly even a concussion in my head.
It’s all enough to finally make me let go of the harpoon. Giving me a fuzzy sight of the wounds I left on the one-hundred-meter-long shark’s body. Wounds that go nearly two dozen meters deep into its body. All thanks to the tentacles, my jaws that are already shifting back, my harpoon, and its own attempts to knock me off by slamming into things.
But it’s not enough.
My vision begins to grow fuzzy and darker at the same time.
This time though, I don’t just give into it.
I push through the darkness in my vision to look towards the large swathes of nearly dead monsters just right outside of the city. And without any hesitation, without even giving a damn about hurting my own body, I summon multiple tentacles right behind me before using them to grab me and throw myself towards the monsters.
Then, right as my vision is about to go fully dark and my mind grows so fuzzy it’s hard to think, I activate the skill.
Devourer of the Abyss.
And the moment I do, I feel a sense of euphoria flooding my entire body as I gasp, feeling the pain rapidly beginning to fade bit by bit. Making my vision return and my thoughts go back to normal again.
Enough that I can now see large orca heads appearing near every last corpse before chomping straight down on them. Thousands upon thousands of them.
So many monsters that my healing is boosted so much that my arm regrows at a visible pace before returning to normal.
With me now being at perfect health again in seconds.
I look down at my hand before clenching it in front of me and unclenching it again. Then I turn towards the massive shark again to find the thing swimming towards me already. Albeit far slower than it was at the start of the battle, and even far slower than when it lost its fin.
On top of that, it’s moving awkwardly without much of a sense of balance to speak of.
And its dead eyes look furious.
Absolutely furious.
The fact that it didn’t use any poison when I was latched onto its side and it’s not using poison right now most likely means it’s out of mana. And speaking of mana, I am running almost empty on mana.
So I go ahead and use the amulet to completely restore all of my mana.
The shark continues swimming towards me as I watch it. Meanwhile all the soldiers and hunters fighting against the other monsters around the city are having things a lot easier now after I used Devourer of the Abyss to finish off all the monsters they were leaving almost dead.
But there are still too many monsters, with many of them being far higher level than the hunters and soldiers.
And those higher level ones are only being held off by the turrets from the city. Which aren’t operating as well underwater as they were before.
Overall, things aren’t looking good for them.
It’s too bad the System apparently doesn’t consider my killing all those monsters with Devourer of the Abyss to be worth much EXP. Considering that killing thousands of monsters with it only gave me two levels. Bringing me up to level 73.
Which still isn’t high enough to get my next trait.
But that doesn’t matter.
I don’t need another trait to finish this damned shark off.
Not with how injured it is now.
I focus on the shark while tilting my head back to pop my neck then narrowing my eyes at the approaching shark.
“It’s time to finish this,” I state out loud with my eyes narrowing, clearly displaying my current anger for all to see.
