Chapter 155: Red Soil
Chapter 155: Red Soil
A horizontal movement interspersed with cries of pain made the hairs on everyone’s skin stand up; Thomas opened his stomach, inch by inch, second by second.
"AAAAARRRHHHHHHH!!!!" Hope shouted, beating the barrier frantically.
Iris, arms lowered, frozen in place, the members of the council, as if going crazy, were hitting the barrier, shouting Thomas’ name.
The three nobles were paralyzed, the scene burned into their brains, but suddenly a white flash passed through them and reached the front of the barrier.
"Open this! Lift this shield, now!"
Candace turned to three staff members who looked at each other anxiously.
"But... Miss Candace, the Code."
"Open that shit, now!!!"
On the ground, the dagger had just finished its tumultuous course.
Thomas found his lost breath after his screams.
With red eyes, he observed the reddened blade of the dagger.
(...)
The weapon shook and, to his surprise, fell to the ground.
He realized he was able to move again, but he didn’t need to.
(...)
Keeping his eyes fixed on the sky, he brought his hands to his stomach.
He was looking up at the blue sky, but he knew the state of his body very well, from the growing burning sensation in his stomach to the feeling of the ground.
He touched his stomach and instinctively grabbed the soft, thick rope sticking out of it.
(...)
He finally looked down, the burning becoming unbearable, and admired the display of his intestines seeking freedom.
"...kuh...aahaaa...aaargh..."
Thomas staggered, his right hand holding his meat rope and his feet trying to make his way across the red muddy ground.
He vomited blood and fell to his knees, crushing his guts to the ground.
Sunnah lost consciousness, barely held by Cid in shock.
This macabre spectacle had lasted too long, but Thomas was not regenerating, the Fairy Mother God nowhere to be found.
"At least this way you can really show me your guts," Dora said as he turned his back to him.
On his knees, Thomas’ vision blurred, almost lost consciousness.
(It hurt... it hurt so... so much... how long will it last?...)
"Now that the worst has happened, do you also think you were ridiculous for asking me not to kill you like that? See, that’s why you don’t beg someone with a weapon... well, in this case it was technically yourself so suicide then..."
He crouched down at the edge of the muddy ground and looked at Thomas.
"Now, as you wished, I will wait until you die, then I will be free."
The audience, initially frightened, utters cries of anguish and despair for the mortally wounded hero.
Thomas watched the boy nonchalantly waiting for his last breath, the sun, the people shouting imperceptible words.
All these last resources were working to find a twist, but he no longer felt his energy, blocked by Dora’s pressure.
He shook violently, realizing that he would have no escape. It was death waiting for him on a red carpet, and when he realized it, tears came to his eyes.
Suddenly, a wind crossed his mind. Further behind Dora, the council members, Hope, Candace, and Iris were agitated next to the barrier.
(..... of course.... how could I forget.... my work.... isn’t over yet...)
He clenched his fists, took a deep breath, the efforts gifting the ground from his offerings a little more, and talked with a loud voice.
"Now..... Do you like the power you get by killing someone?"
"I can hear you, no need to yell."
"This power.... these spirits..... they will be yours, once I die..."
"Why would I need your power? I’ll just let them disappear."
"Yes!... They are weak!.... very weak... because... be...cause..." Tears flowed over his face. "I am weak! Weaker than you... weaker than anyone.... anyone could beat me!....so this power is wasted on me... but you... Greed Avatar... You can make it unique... You can get better skills than this... but you need to kill people to get it."
Eryl, hands shaking seemed confused.
"...what is he planning?"
The council members stopped their futile efforts and listened to Thomas, his words reaching everyone in the arena.
"Greed... is the Sin starving for wealth.... I was a disappointment... but this is only my case.... someone else possesses so much power... that you could imagine... even stronger than you?"
Hope flinched, falling on his knees, tears flowing profusely.
"... How are you even so sure that this is what I want?"
"Because this is... your nature... you are born evil... you will always be... evil....a Sin... is never a... hero... you woke up when you saw... the fairies... this is just... how the Sin of Greed... is...and this is what... I want you to understand..."
Dora frowned, the audience fell silent as one, as if to listen to the poor man’s last words.
Candace froze for a moment then hit the magic barrier hard.
"No... No! NO!... Not that... Is this what you were looking for?! Stop!! Stop it!!!"
Iris put her hands against the barrier too.
"What is he looking for? Dean, please, what is the point of all this?"
".... the Sin is another person, there are still two people in Dora, the Sin, and the incarnation of the creature from the Rift, this thing here is a brainwashed Sin, we can control him, but this idiot is..."
At the mansion, Nosfera narrowed her eyes.
"I see... he’s teaching that Sin to be a Sin, instead of going against one’s nature."
"Uwah? But it’s bad, our goal was to prevent it!" Ratoncia panicked.
Dora got up, scratching his chin, and thought for a moment, Thomas, feeling his strength abandoning him, lay down on his side.
"Trying to... deceive him this way... is too risky... one day... his nature... will lead him to kill... someone for his... power...so...the best solution...is to give him...the perfect target...now.
"And who would be this person I should attack? Who is a better hero than me?
Hope stood up in a panic as some of the council members tried to push him away.
Thomas, a smile on his bloody mouth, pointed to the sky.
"The Twilight of the Gods... somewhere... in a place... the ancient capital... there is a Rift... of this Rift... creatures called... Players... are... coming... and... they... stronger than me... and you... you want the power... Go... there... The truth... on you... is there.
