Chapter 154: Fight To Die
Chapter 154: Fight To Die
The audience gasped in awe as Thomas, with a surge of power, propelled himself towards Dora. In an instant, the reaper vanished into a swirling abyss of darkness, while the luminous orbs gravitated towards Thomas’ outstretched fingers.
"Forest of Fire"
The resplendent orbs that extended across the expanse transformed into a fiery crimson hue, erupting in a cataclysmic inferno that ascended into the heavens.
"Now, what are your thoughts on my power, dear Mr. Avatar?" A brilliant burst of yellow light engulfed the entire arena, rendering it sightless for a fleeting moment. The once radiant spheres had vanished without a trace as the vision was restored.
"Pathetic." scoffed Dora, casually waving his hand in dismissal.
Thomas paused momentarily, then proceeded to leap upon him,
"Let’s see how long you can maintain this facade, thunder-"
A resplendent javelin of pure gold pierced through him, traversing from his back to his abdomen, propelling him forward before suspending him in mid-air as if frozen in time.
"The only facade here is me trying to kill you."
Cries of fright rose from the audience, some hiding their faces.
Thomas floated, his gaze petrified, then gritted his teeth and put his hands back in a praying position.
"The Dance of Death"
The black mist spread in a gust of wind around Dora, as the boy with an indifferent gaze watched the reaper’s scythe behind him.
"Spirit sla... aah..."
On her seat, Candace bit her thumbnail.
"Of course..."
Thousands of black slashes formed instantly over a wide diameter around Dora as if he were protected by a shield, but the truth was quite different.
The reaper’s attacks were of a spiritual nature, targeting not the body, but the soul of the target, however...
"This is a poor choice of attack against a Sin," Vixen sighed.
One of the common abilities of all Sin Avatars was their spiritual pressure; Dora could affect Thomas when he was weaker, so it was only natural that at his peak there wouldn’t be any debate.
"Are you actually an illusionist to create so many holograms with no effect?"
"... Urgh"
Dora snapped his fingers and the reaper, along with every shining sphere around Thomas, vanished in a flash of aura sweeping the arena and vibrating the barrier.
Only the Fairy God Mother remained, continuously regenerating Thomas’s pierced abdomen.
The javelin vanished into sparks and the young man fell on his feet, his gaze fixed on the ground.
(No... He’s strong... but the gap can’t be that big.)
As he tried to stand up, the sight that met his eyes froze him in place.
"Do you know the difference between you and me?"
Thomas’s eyes widened as the entire arena vanished, leaving him in a dark dimension.
But what captured all his attention was the gigantic Dora holding him in the palm of his hand.
"You can make an attack and it will feel like an illusion, I can make an illusion and it will feel like an attack."
He clenched his fist, crushing Thomas, and the space cracked.
Pieces of mirror fell like rain onto the arena, disintegrating into the air. Everyone watched this macabre rain with intrigue, oblivious to what had happened before.
"H-Hey! Look, Thomas!"
The crowd became lively again at the sight of Thomas lying on the ground, his body broken all over.
Hope hit the barrier, screaming in despair.
Candace clenched her fists on her knee, giving Freya a furious gaze, indicating that there was no need for hesitation.
They stood up, ready to intervene.
"We can’t do that, dean," Zuri spoke in a calm tone.
Freya, Mercy, and Candace turned to her in surprise. Zuri took out her phone and showed them a live broadcast of the fight on social platforms.
"This is being broadcasted as the first display of a Sin Avatar. Don’t you think Pride and the Queen are watching? If we interfere, we will be the ones breaking the Code."
"What... but Thomas..." Mercy stammered.
"He brought this on himself... it was his plan, so let him carry on."
For her part, Freya looked furiously but noticing Candace’s trembling, she understood that they were at an impasse.
Dora stared at Thomas’ broken body then turned and walked away, much to the astonishment of the council members.
"I wasn’t expecting anything but I’m still disappointed... Hm?"
He turned his back as he felt the energy gathering around Thomas whose wounds had regenerated.
He looked at the Fairy God Mother, spreading more spheres of light around the arena and frowned.
"Ah, so that’s what I was assessing..."
Thomas’ aura exploded, all four spheres spinning on his back.
He took a step and in an instant found himself behind Dora.
"Earth Lor-AAAAaaaaaaargh!!!"
A huge hole appeared on his stomach after Dora touched it with her finger. The latter widened his eyes at the spectacle and as Thomas rolled on the ground, his blood spilling on, Dora watched his finger.
"... I barely touched it." He flinched, the healing waves sliding over his body and restoring Thomas.
He looked at the Fairy again, but this time a smile appeared on his face.
"... It’s really nice, it’s like fighting two people at once..."
"... Aaah... Aah... so... I’m finally to your liking?"
"That’s a lot of hypotheses there, I just find this style... nostalgic. I want to do it too."
Thomas stood up, a smile on his lips.
"Then... you will have to kill me... Avatar."
"Thomas!!!" Hope shouted from the side. Thomas closed his eyes and smiled at him.
"Kill you? No, you’re mistaken, I wasn’t talking about the beast, but the technique."
He clasped his hands in the same prayer position, and for a moment the world seemed to stop.
"I remember... this feeling... this concept... there is a possibility of using energy in this way... it’s..."
White and green particles formed around his body, and no one dared to speak, unable to understand what was happening.
But for their part, the dean and her closest students trembled as they recognized one of Dora’s most dangerous creations.
"The law."
A burst of green and yellow energy spread over Dora, swirling in a gentle wind.
"There, almost like that, a healing aura for me, good idea! You do not think?"
Thomas stared in disbelief. The aura surrounding Dora transformed into a healing machine, even stronger than the Fairy.
Feeling his plan crumble, he looked at the ground, completely defeated.
"Thomas!"
Hope’s voice brought him back to life, he looked up to the side and saw the faces of each council member, then that of Iris.
In that fleeting moment, he came to the realization that he no longer had to exert additional effort in order to win her over. The boy she was believed to have loved had undergone a change, thereby leaving a possibility for him. However, another flame ignited within his chest, illuminating a different kind of passion.
"Today, I’m not fighting for anyone, not you, not Hope, but for myself... hey, Sin Avatar."
"Hmm?"
He took an offensive stance, the luminous sphere around him.
"Want to see who has the best healing?"
"Me obviously, if I attack the fairy directly, you’re done."
"Maybe, but is it okay if you don’t see its limit?"
"... Human, what do you not understand about I’m not even trying?"
Thomas’ aura exploded and he jumped on top of Dora.
"Icy St-UUUrggh"
His left arm disappeared in a gust of wind. He gritted his teeth, collecting energy on his left arm, and fired a ball of water at Dora who vaporized it with a snap of his finger.
Thomas reached for it, creating a wind dagger, and struck Dora, but the weapon exploded in a simple breeze upon hitting Dora.
"... The gape... cannot be..."
"It is."
Dora snapped his finger and Thomas flew away, drops of blood everywhere.
As he turned, time slowed and he managed to see Hope’s desperate face.
(... No... that’s not true... I’m too selfish...)
He landed on his feet, bleeding from his nose, ears, and left eye closed, breathing heavily, then spread his arms.
"Go ahead! KILL ME"
"Why... do you keep... asking that?!"
Thomas, clenching his healing fists, gave him a mocking smile.
"Because I know you better than you do, you imbecile."
The atmosphere grew denser, assuming a yellowish hue that enveloped the surroundings. Thomas’s eyes widened in astonishment at the sudden change. Behind him, the fairy vanished amidst a yellow mist, interrupting Thomas’s regeneration. He turned his gaze towards Dora, whose right hand emitted a radiant light, illuminating his face with a brilliant reflection.
"So you’re saying I’m not getting out until I kill you?" Dora raised a dagger he had just created.
The air was becoming difficult to breathe, even beyond the barrier. He took a step forward, motivating Thomas to move, but the man’s leg no longer responded.
"Thomas, move!!!" Shouted Hope, the last person capable of making a sound in this sinister scene.
Dora joined Thomas, face to face, his yellow eyes fixed on those of the man.
"Take it."
Thomas flinched, but to his surprise, his body moved on its own and took the dagger.
Trembling, his eyes fixed on the sharp weapon, he stared at Dora.
"Human, you wish to die? Then open your belly."
"... AAah? W... What..."
In a breathtaking scene, Thomas, his irises turning yellow, places the tip of the dagger against his stomach.
"...Urrgh.... what.... wait.... No! NOT LIKE THIS!"
"Aren’t you too presumptuous? You take away my freedom not to fight, my freedom not to love your talent, and now my freedom to choose how I kill you?"
The tip of the dagger slowly pressed against Thomas’ center, the audience hiding their faces in horror and the council members shouting Thomas’ name.
"You want the honor of dying by my hand? I don’t want the shame of killing you."
"NNNGHH... Shit... Shit..." With tears in his eyes, the tip pierced his stomach.
Maxim turned his gaze away, unable to bear the sight, while Sunnah collapsed to her knees, her hands clutching her head in despair. Iris, her eyes filled with trembling, could only watch the unfolding scene with a profound sense of helplessness.
Thomas compelled himself to meet Hope’s eyes, summoning his last ounce of strength as a prominent vein pulsed in his neck.
"... ngh... don’t look..."
