Chapter 41: Chapter 40 Inquiry
"Alright."
Watching Zeng Xiaoxiao’s pitiful expression, Xiao Yi recalled the situation he had just thought of, and with her shaking, his heart softened. He nodded and gave up the idea of going to the library.
After all, the library wasn’t going anywhere, and there was no hurry to browse through it. He decided to accompany Zeng Xiaoxiao for a while and see for himself the fun place she was talking about.
Xiao Yi silently consoled himself.
"Yay! That’s great! I knew Brother Xiao was the best!"
Hearing that Xiao Yi had agreed to her request, Zeng Xiaoxiao immediately let go of his hand, jumped up happily, and after a bit, grabbed his hand again, excitedly walking towards the exit, "Brother Xiao, let’s go."
Fatty Tang, who was about to come over, saw Xiao Yi being excitedly pulled out of the classroom by Zeng Xiaoxiao. A look of immense sympathy flashed in his eyes as he raised his chubby hand and made the sign of the cross over his chest, Brother, may God protect you!
Based on his extensive experience, he knew that what lay ahead for Xiao Yi was not going to be easy. Going out to play with the Demon Head would certainly not end well.
Fatty Tang, who had just prayed for Xiao Yi, sighed, turned his head to get his books and prepared to leave. However, as soon as he turned around, he caught sight of Gao Junjie and his friends, who were standing up with resentment. Seeing them glaring at him menacingly, he shivered and yelled, "Boss, wait for me!"
Then, he dashed out of the classroom with a speed that was unlike his corpulent figure, under the astonished and perplexed gazes of everyone, leaving his books on the table behind.
"Damn it, Fatty Tang got away!"
The tall and skinny boy watched as Fatty Tang slipped out of the classroom like greased lightning, and spitefully spat in the direction he fled, "Damn, he can sure run fast!"
Xiao Yi had been with Zeng Xiaoxiao the whole time, and just now, after showing his unique skill of kicking someone away with a single kick, they were deeply wary of him because they didn’t know his true capabilities. Although they hated Xiao Yi to the bone, they didn’t dare to confront him right away. Upon seeing Fatty Tang stand up just now, they immediately intended to vent their frustration on him, particularly since they were familiar with Fatty Tang and could handle him without worry. Moreover, they would use the opportunity to glean some information about that country bumpkin from Fatty Tang’s mouth.
After what had just happened, they had completely realized that Xiao Yi was not some dimwitted country bumpkin, but perhaps a tiger dressed in pig’s skin amongst the swine.
They weren’t just brutes without strategies. If all they knew was violence, they wouldn’t have been able to live so freely and comfortably up until now.
"Hmph, he can run from the monk, but not from the temple. Let’s see if he dares to never come to class again."
Gao Junjie snorted coldly.
"Young Master Gao, what do we do now? Who would have thought that bumpkin could fight like that? It seems we can’t beat him, huh?"
The robust Wang Qiang held his stomach, having been kicked the hardest. Even though the others, including Gao Junjie, felt fine, he was the only one who still felt a dull pain in his ribs.
"Can fight? Hmph, so what if he can?"
Gao Junjie’s lips curled into a cold smirk, "Over the years, how many tough guys have we played to death or to ruin? He’s just a bit tougher, that’s all!"
"You’re right, Young Master Gao. Damn, we’ve got to find a way to bring that kid down."
Upon hearing Gao Junjie’s words, the robust boy suddenly snapped out of the sense of powerlessness and despair, regaining his cruelty, he spoke with a sinister expression.
"However, this time, we can’t act rashly anymore. In the next couple of days, we’ll thoroughly investigate this kid and then strike with certainty. Understood?"
Gao Junjie’s eyes also revealed a kind of cruel chill, but he quickly suppressed it and then seriously said to the three.
"Don’t worry, Young Master Gao."
Upon hearing Gao Junjie’s words, all three nodded emphatically.
In fact, even without Gao Junjie emphasizing it, they dared not act rashly now. Xiao Yi’s kick from before still had a certain deterrent effect on them.
Gao Junjie then stressed some details about investigating Xiao Yi to the others before they slowly exited the classroom together.
"Yo? Isn’t that Young Master Gao? What happened to you guys?"
As they had just reached the classroom entrance, they heard a surprised voice.
"Jin Xiaohan?"
When Gao Junjie looked up and saw the person at the classroom door, his face immediately showed a surprised expression, "Why are you here?"
The person in front of him was not at all a stranger, but rather an old friend of his, Jin Xiaohan, who lived in the same neighborhood and was the son of Jin Shaowen.
"Heh heh, buddy, I came specially to find you. Hey, but before we talk about my matters, what happened to you guys? Eh, Qiangzi, what’s wrong with you? Stomach upset?"
Jin Xiaohan chuckled and patted the shoulder of the burly man Wang Qiang, who was still clutching his stomach.
"It’s nothing, we were just fooling around in the classroom and accidentally got hit. What did you need from me?"
Gao Junjie glanced coldly at the burly man Wang Qiang and then looked at Jin Xiaohan with some surprise.
Although he and Jin Xiaohan lived in the same neighborhood, their interactions were actually not that frequent. As the saying goes, one mountain cannot contain two tigers. Jin Xiaohan himself was not someone who typically kept to himself. With his own significant background, he naturally wouldn’t behave like Wang Qiang and the others, obediently acting as a lackey. Nor was it likely for Gao Junjie to try to ingratiate himself with Jin Xiaohan. Over time, the two had become like parallel lines, each doing their own things. The two also had an unspoken understanding, choosing not to attend the same schools, and even when they both enrolled in the best university in G City, they chose different majors, maintaining their own territories without overstepping. The only intersection was a few family gatherings each year, where they both made an effort to present a harmonious front.
"Heh heh, it’s not a big deal. I just wanted to ask you about someone, brother. You wouldn’t refuse this little favor, would you?"
Jin Xiaohan was all too aware of the dynamics between them. Over the years, Gao Junjie had never asked anything of him, and now he was the one seeking a favor, feeling slightly embarrassed as he chuckled before speaking.
"Of course not, you are too polite, Young Master Jin. Just say it, who is the beauty in our department that caught your eye? I assure you I’ll tell you everything I know, sparing no details."
With Gao Junjie’s status, he didn’t need to pander to Jin Xiaohan, but this opportunity to foster a closer relationship was beneficial. It would be as if Jin owed him a favor for the future. However, a sense of wariness arose in his heart. There were only two girls in the School of Mathematics who could be considered easy on the eyes, Zhao Yuhua and Zeng Xiaoxiao. It wouldn’t be a problem if his interest was in Zeng Xiaoxiao, but if it was Zhao Yuhua? That would be troublesome.
"Don’t worry Young Master Gao, I hadn’t planned on competing with you for a beauty. I wanted to ask you about a guy."
Noticing the frown on Gao Junjie’s face, Jin Xiaohan understood what was going through his mind and laughed.
