Chapter 40: Chapter 39 Who is the Idiot
"Hehe, of course, Brother Xiao. Or how about this—you don’t bother going to classes anymore, and we can just play instead! Whatever you don’t understand, I can teach you. Surely my explanations are way better than the teachers’, hehe."
"Um..."
"Hehe, I’m just kidding! I still want to see Brother Xiao kick people around in class, so of course, you should come."
"..."
Xiao Yi’s mind was sweating buckets. Why did this girl seem to have such violent tendencies, so fixated on the idea of kicking people?
"Brother Xiao, where are you from??"
"Daling Village."
Amidst his mental outpour, Xiao Yi finally encountered a question from Zeng Xiaoxiao that he could answer normally.
"Where is Daling Village?"
This time, it was Zeng Xiaoxiao’s turn to be rendered speechless, staring wide-eyed at Xiao Yi.
"It’s at the foot of Daling Mountain."
Xiao Yi replied earnestly.
"And where is Daling Mountain?"
Zeng Xiaoxiao felt like she was about to collapse.
"Behind Daling Village."
"..."
"Brother Xiao, I’m seriously asking you."
It took Zeng Xiaoxiao a while to hold back the urge to go crazy and beat someone up. Pouting her lips and looking at Xiao Yi discontentedly, she said.
"My answer was serious, too?"
Xiao Yi looked back at Zeng Xiaoxiao with equal perplexity.
"..."
Zeng Xiaoxiao fiercely waved her little fists in her mind, smacking Xiao Yi’s confused face repeatedly until she somewhat calmed down. She looked at Xiao Yi patiently, saying, "Brother Xiao, I mean, you should give a broader location. Mentioning whatever village or mountain doesn’t tell anyone anything. You could say which county, city, or province it’s in, then people would know."
"Oh, I see."
Xiao Yi had an epiphany, which brought a spark of joy to Zeng Xiaoxiao’s heart. She let out a long sigh of relief, thinking to herself that although Xiao Yi appeared to be quite skilled physically, his brain didn’t seem to work quite as well.
But Xiao Yi’s next sentence immediately sent Zeng Xiaoxiao into full meltdown mode again.
"But I think my Daling Village doesn’t belong to any province, nor is it managed by any county?"
Xiao Yi pondered for a while, then looked at Zeng Xiaoxiao with some bewilderment.
"How can that be possible? What is the nearest county town to you?"
Zeng Xiaoxiao continued to guide patiently, holding back on the brink of bursting out.
"The nearest one?"
Xiao Yi thought deeply for a moment, then his face lit up with happiness as he said, "Right, the nearest one is Lavilar Town, over three hundred miles away."
"..."
A completely frustrated Zeng Xiaoxiao finally decided to give up asking this infuriating question. She felt that asking Xiao Yi this question was simply torturing her own intelligence with his stupidity.
"Brother Xiao, have you ever practiced Kung Fu?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Wow, no wonder you’re so amazing. Where did you learn your Kung Fu?"
Zeng Xiaoxiao’s eyes sparkled.
"I learned it at home."
"What?"
Another black line appeared on Zeng Xiaoxiao’s forehead. Remembering how she had asked about his hometown, she thought she might have been too abstract, considering Xiao Yi’s intelligence. He likely had a broader idea of ’home,’ like if he learned it at the Shaolin Temple but lived in Shaolin County, he would still say he learned it at home. So, she continued patiently guiding him, "Learned at home? Then who taught you Kung Fu?"
"Old man."
"Old man? Who is the old man?"
"Old man is old man, right?"
Xiao Yi looked bewildered at Zeng Xiaoxiao. He had never doubted her claim of being a super-genius, but now, he suddenly felt a bit depressed. Was she really a genius? How could she ask such a stupid question?
"...!"
Watching Xiao Yi’s confused expression, as if to say, "How can you be so stupid?" Zeng Xiaoxiao once again couldn’t help but feel exasperated, clutching her hair in frustration. If it weren’t during class and if she didn’t need to maintain her ladylike demeanor in front of Xiao Yi, she would have screamed out loud.
Oh my god, who is the real idiot here?
Zeng Xiaoxiao decided not to ask Xiao Yi any more questions, lest she end up vomiting blood from frustration.
Seeing Zeng Xiaoxiao suddenly quiet down and bury her head in the book, not asking him any more questions, Xiao Yi couldn’t help but feel curious. Why did she suddenly become quiet? However, her silence was a relief, allowing him some peace to flip through the textbook.
After all, he was not the super-genius Zeng Xiaoxiao. It wasn’t feasible for him to rely on her for answers to things he didn’t know, so he had to glance at the textbook occasionally in order to prepare for school exams.
A forty-five-minute class period had quickly passed, with almost twenty minutes taken up by Zeng Xiaoxiao’s questions. The remaining twenty-some minutes flew by as Xiao Yi reviewed the textbook.
As soon as the class bell rang, the teacher, as if fleeing, hastily announced the end of the class without finishing the grammar point and rushed out of the classroom.
Xiao Yi also closed his textbook, stood up, and prepared to leave.
"Brother Xiao, class is over. Where do you plan to go for fun?"
But as soon as he stood up, he saw that Zeng Xiaoxiao had already stood up beside him. She seemed to have completely forgotten the previous events, her face once again breaking into a sweet smile as she looked at Xiao Yi with large, blinking eyes.
"Uh, Xiaoxiao, do you need something? If not, I was planning to go to the library to read."
Xiao Yi looked at Zeng Xiaoxiao.
"Hey, Brother Xiao, what’s fun about the library? It would be much more fun if I took you out to play, wouldn’t it?"
As she spoke, a fervent glint flashed in Zeng Xiaoxiao’s eyes.
Xiao Yi broke out in sweat; the library isn’t a place for fun, it’s for reading. He wasn’t going to the library for fun. Why did she think about playing all the time? Could this be the legendary ailment of geniuses?
"This..."
Xiao Yi hesitated.
"Brother Xiao, please, pretty please?"
Seeing Xiao Yi’s hesitant expression and sensing an opportunity, Zeng Xiaoxiao immediately stepped up her effort. She grabbed his hand and started shaking it, while putting on an irresistibly cute, coquettish face, and pleaded pitifully.
