Chapter 36: Chapter 34: Still Dare to Come to School!

(Thank you to classmate Jing Gu for the reward, thank you. I only saw it today after you rewarded it the day before yesterday, which makes me feel ashamed! Also, everyone please vote and support with your recommendation tickets, ah. I was worried about annoying you all with my update yesterday, so I didn’t ask for votes, and as a result, I hardly got any. It’s really tough during the new book period!) ————————————————————

The next day, Xiao Yi arrived in the classroom just before class, on time as always. As soon as he entered, he saw Gao Junjie and his three henchmen sending him a venomous glare, which followed him relentlessly until he took his seat next to Fatty Tang; their gazes remained bitterly fixed on him, especially those of the three lackeys, who looked like they wanted to devour him.

Xiao Yi smiled faintly, seemingly unfazed as he sat down and took out the English textbook needed for the upcoming lesson.

However, while Xiao Yi appeared calm, Fatty Tang beside him was noticeably frightened by the glare of the Four Young Evil Masters. As he observed their terrifying, man-eating glances—the likes of which he had never seen before—Fatty Tang looked at Xiao Yi with a mix of nervousness and unease and asked, "Brother Xiao, did you provoke Gao Junjie and his crew?"

During class yesterday, he had been asleep the whole time and left immediately afterward. Then he got caught up in studying art from the Island Country and didn’t bother to catch up on the latest gossip, so he had no idea what had happened.

"No."

Xiao Yi shook his head.

He was telling the truth. He had never provoked Gao Junjie and his gang from the beginning; they were the ones who had been troubling him, and all he did was respond when necessary.

"Really? But their gazes seem like you’ve beaten them up, don’t they?"

Fatty Tang glanced at Gao Junjie’s glaring eyes and couldn’t help shivering. He turned his head back, looking half-doubtful, half-disbelieving at Xiao Yi.

No wonder he didn’t believe Xiao Yi. Having known Gao Junjie and his group for so long, he had never seen them with such a terrifying expression.

"But, brother, what did you actually do to provoke Gao Junjie and his gang? Don’t tell me you managed to get Zhao Yuhua? That’s impossible, right? You couldn’t possibly have the ability to do that, could you?"

"..."

Xiao Yi was rendered completely speechless by Fatty Tang’s words. Did his world revolve only around sex? In order to prevent him from continuing with more ridiculous speculations, Xiao Yi quickly composed himself and said, "Don’t guess wildly. I really didn’t provoke them. Who knows what’s gotten into them. The teacher’s here; let’s focus on class."

Though Fatty Tang was still skeptical of Xiao Yi’s words, he saw that the teacher had walked in and took to his seat quietly, but he couldn’t remain as composed as Xiao Yi during the lesson. He kept stealthily glancing towards Gao Junjie, and upon realizing they were still looking at him and Xiao Yi as if staring down mortal enemies, his anxiety grew even more palpable.

He was now certain that Xiao Yi had definitely provoked them—and not just a little bit, either; it must have been quite severe, for them to hate him so intensely.

It hadn’t occurred to him that this young brother from the hills could be so fierce. He had warned Xiao Yi just yesterday, yet he still went and provoked Gao Junjie and his group. And to think, he’d only been at the school for two days, yet he’d made enemies so quickly!

As he considered the impending storm he may face from Gao Junjie and his gang, Fatty Tang was on the verge of tears, hunched over his desk. The pleasant feeling from taking Xiao Yi as his lackey the day before, along with the sense of solidarity, had vanished instantly, leaving behind only endless regret. This kid was obviously a trouble magnet. How could he have been so blind yesterday to think the kid was agreeable, even going so far as to invite him to sit next to him? Worse still, why did he delude himself into thinking they had become close as brothers?

The English lesson soon ended amid Fatty Tang’s regret, unease, nervousness, and fear. As the teacher said "Class dismissed, everyone take a break" in English, which brought excitement to almost all the students’ faces, Fatty Tang, however, tensed up terribly, wishing for the first time in his life, with heartfelt sincerity, that the English class he loathed could go on forever.

Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t one to pray regularly, nor had he spared any curses on his English teacher, so it was clear his wish wouldn’t be granted. Amid the eager gazes of the students, the English teacher turned around, left the podium, and headed for the classroom door.

At that moment, he caught a stealthy glance at the Four Young Evil Masters beside him, whose eyes lost the venomous look they had shown all day, turning instead to an excited glitter!

Fatty Tang immediately felt weak in the knees.

"Brother, I’m going out for a smoke."

Seeing that Gao Junjie and his group had already stood up and were heading this way, Fatty Tang hesitated no longer. After speaking to Xiao Yi, he didn’t dare meet Xiao Yi’s gaze and quickly hustled out of the classroom.

"Go ahead."

A hint of disappointment flickered in Xiao Yi’s eyes, but it vanished as he replied calmly.

Although he seemed to be calmly paying attention in class, Xiao Yi had been aware of Fatty Tang’s demeanor the entire time. Yet, he didn’t console him or say anything. He let Fatty Tang guess and choose for himself. Xiao Yi didn’t need Fatty Tang’s help, but deep down, he had hoped Fatty Tang would stay. When he heard Fatty Tang choose to leave, he did feel a twinge of disappointment, but it was fleeting.

He knew with his indifferent permission that this marked the end of his brief connection with Fatty Tang, erasing him completely from his circle.

Xiao Yi understood that Fatty Tang had probably been badly bullied by Gao Junjie and his crew, leaving deep psychological scars. He could understand that, but someone who couldn’t muster even a shred of courage to resist and was resigned to fear, didn’t deserve to be someone who crosses paths with Xiao Yi.

"Fatty Tang ran off, smart move, getting away so quickly! Hmph!"

The muscular guy leading the way walked up to Xiao Yi, looked over his shoulder with disdain at the departing Fatty Tang, snorted coldly, and then with a look of hatred in his eyes, he hissed at Xiao Yi, "Kid, you’ve got guts, showing up for school today!"
