Chapter 35: Chapter 33 Circumstances

"Ring, ring..."

Just as Xiao Yi was enjoying his dinner, suddenly, an antique Nokia ringtone sounded.

Hm?

Upon hearing the ringtone, Xiao Yi’s brows furrowed, as he could easily recognize that it was the ringtone of his phone. In fact, in this villa, apart from the landline, it seemed that his was the only phone around.

But who would call his phone at this time?

Not many people knew his phone number.

He reached for the phone and looked at the display, only to find that it was Chen Jianguo’s number. His face showed a hint of disappointment, but he also breathed a slight sigh of relief. He had thought it might be the old man’s conscience kicking in, remembering that he hadn’t made his message clear last time, and decided to call to inform him what he was supposed to do at Z University. But at least this way, the call wasn’t from some annoying person.

He pressed the answer button gently, and leaned back lazily in the most comfortable position on the couch, "Hello?"

"Young Master Xiao, this is Chen Jianguo. I hope I haven’t disturbed you."

Chen Jianguo’s respectful voice came through immediately.

"No, I’m not busy right now. Is there something you need?"

Xiao Yi furrowed his brows slightly, thinking that Chen Jianguo was always too polite in his speech, which sometimes he found a bit uncomfortable.

"Young Master Xiao, I’m really sorry, I just heard from Liu Yuan about the incident with that blind security guard yesterday. I’ve dealt with it severely, and I’ve already asked them to step up management in the security department."

Chen Jianguo’s tone was laden with a heavy sense of apology as he spoke cautiously.

"Let’s forget about yesterday’s incident. Is there anything else?"

Xiao Yi waved his hand with a hint of impatience, as he was not one to hold grudges. He was furious on the spot yesterday, and after giving the man a hard lesson, he had wiped the incident from his mind.

"No... nothing else, Young Master Xiao. Please go on with what you were doing."

On the other end of the phone, Chen Jianguo, looking a bit haggard and tired, hesitated for a moment before managing a forced smile.

Forget it, I’ll think of another way to deal with this matter and hope I can resolve it.

Chen Jianguo let out a silent sigh in his heart.

"Oh, if there’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up now. Oh and, Liu Yuan did a good job. The materials he prepared were very thorough; thank him for me,"

Xiao Yi, hearing that Chen Jianguo had nothing else to say, didn’t think much of it. He assumed Chen Jianguo had specifically called about the security guard issue, which was very much in line with Chen Jianguo’s courteous character. However, he couldn’t help but feel that Chen Jianguo had made a big fuss out of a minor issue. As he was about to hang up, his eyes caught sight of the fragrant dishes on the table, and he decided to add one last remark before ending the call.

After hanging up, he finished enjoying his homemade delicious dinner. After a simple clean-up, he watched TV for a while before returning upstairs to begin his daily routine—cultivating.

Xiao Yi sat cross-legged on the bed and started to silently practice the Carefree True Scripture, embarking on his cultivation.

In a private room of a bar in the Beixiu District of G City’s old town, the scarred man who had driven the van at the bus station that afternoon was sitting earnestly in a leather chair, reporting to a middle-aged man who appeared to be in his forties sitting across from him.

"Are you saying that the kid who saved that girl this afternoon is a student from Z University?"

The middle-aged man had been listening very carefully to Scar’s account of the afternoon’s events, nodding occasionally to indicate that he should continue, and remained silent until Scar had finished speaking and shared his own speculations. Only then did he slowly speak up, his eyes shimmering with an unreadable light.

"Yes, Brother Hao, that damn kid showed up at the Z University bus station, and being so young, I think he must be a student from there," Scar nodded and said, adding, "Considering how desperately he went to rescue that chick, it’s very likely she’s his classmate, or even his lover."

Scar nodded again, and then, recalling how the kid had messed up his plans that afternoon, he said resentfully, "Brother Hao, why don’t I get some guys to check out Z University, and then find an opportunity to take that little shit down?"

"You just stay quiet here for a few days and check out how things are blowing first."

Brother Hao responded indifferently to his suggestion.

"Brother Hao, you’re being too cautious. I drove so fast today, and as soon as I missed, I just changed direction and left. They didn’t even get a clear look at me, and there weren’t any cameras nearby, so what’s there to be afraid of?" Scar said, somewhat disdainful of Brother Hao’s caution.

"Being careful never hurts; it’s a critical moment for us, and we absolutely cannot afford any accidents," Brother Hao said, glancing at Scar coldly.

"Yes, Brother Hao," Scar said quickly, and he shivered under Brother Hao’s steady gaze. While he was careful with his words, he still harbored resentment at not being able to go after the kid who had ruined his afternoon, thinking sullenly, "Let that pretty boy hop around for a few more days."

"Hmph, if he really is just an ordinary student, then forget it, but if he has any connection to that girl with the surname Zhang..."

Brother Hao spoke haltingly, then stopped. He took out his phone and dialed a number, his eyes cold. Scar, watching from the side, shivered again, ruefully thinking that he had wanted to avenge himself and toy with the boy, to vent his frustrations. But now it seemed there would be no chance. He knew all too well what it meant when Brother Hao took matters into his own hands; the kid from that afternoon might well never leave a trace in this world again.

"Brother Hao."

A voice filled with utmost respect came from the phone.

"Go check at Z University right away, see if there’s a boyfriend or any close male classmate around that girl surnamed Zhang. About 175 centimeters tall, very skinny, like a stick, and oh, another feature, his eyes are rather large, skin seems a bit pale. And, his face is quite pleasing to look at, the sort that’s on the handsome side," Brother Hao said flatly.

After he finished speaking, and seeing that Scar was still standing in front of him, looking at him, he waved his hand dismissively, "There’s nothing else, you can go out now."

"Yes!"

Scar replied respectfully and quickly turned to walk out.

As Scar left quickly, Brother Hao made another phone call. This time, however, his tone lacked the previous command and superiority, becoming exceedingly humble. By the end of the conversation, he hardly dared to speak at all, occasionally uttering "Mm, yes, I understand, I will handle it well, please rest assured!" and other such phrases.

After a long while, Brother Hao put down the phone, took a deep breath, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, and revealed a grim look in his eyes. "Zhang, I was going to give you a few more days, but since you’re looking for death, you can’t blame me, Sun Hao, for being ruthless! Hmph!"
