Chapter 31: Chapter 29: I Don’t Have a Medical License
(Today’s third update is a bit late, as I had to go out during the day and have just returned! Also, I sincerely thank the old Stone Hall book friends and the old friend 老朋友甀仴→儗庯霈 for their rewarding support. Furthermore, here is a book club group number: 164144216.)————————————————
"Little girl, first calm down; I’ll call my colleague right now, and we will send your grandfather to the nearby Chinese Medicine University Second Affiliate Hospital immediately."
After realizing that something was wrong, the security guard finally calmed down, stood up, repeated his words to the girl, and then hastily picked up his radio to call his colleagues.
Upon hearing the security guard’s words, the girl’s face froze as if she had been electrocuted. Then, she suddenly became agitated, stopped calling out, and began gently rubbing her grandfather’s forehead and other areas.
The little girl was evidently trained in Chinese medicine nursing and massage. Her movements were skilled and standard for the emergency response required for a patient who had fainted.
However, no matter what she did, the old man remained completely unresponsive.
After massaging for a while and seeing that the old man still did not wake up, the girl’s face became increasingly anxious, nervous, and desperate.
At this moment, several of the security guard’s colleagues, who were on duty patrolling nearby floors, rushed over in a hurry.
They cleared the crowds surrounding them and loudly asked what was happening.
After understanding the situation, they immediately prepared to carry the old man downstairs.
Just as the security guards were about to reach out to carry him, Xiao Yi, who had been standing in the crowd and had not yet left, hesitated. Normally, he would not interfere in matters that did not concern him.
But still...
He bit his lip, a hint of reluctance flashed in his eyes, and just as a security guard was about to lift the old man, he shouted, "Stop!"
He glanced at the girl in front of him, whose face was not only beautiful but now filled with anxiety, and Xiao Yi silently sighed to himself. He felt it was only right to thank her for allowing him to look on for so long.
"Who are you, and what do you want!"
As the security guard began to reach out, suddenly interrupted by the shout, he paused and then raised his head to see who had called out. When he saw that it was a thin young man in his early twenties, his expression darkened.
"If you don’t want this old man to become paralyzed, you’d better not move him recklessly."
Xiao Yi walked out of the crowd, disregarding the security guard, and simply told the girl.
"Are you a doctor?"
The security guard, startled by Xiao Yi’s words, hesitated to move the old man again.
"I suppose so."
Xiao Yi hesitated for a moment but after glancing around at the onlookers, he nodded his head.
"I suppose so?"
Upon hearing Xiao Yi’s response, the security guard immediately expressed dissatisfaction. "Either you are or you aren’t, what do you mean ’I suppose so’!"
"Young man, human life is of utmost importance; I hope you’re not joking around!"
Another man, who appeared to be a leader among the security guards, also spoke sternly to Xiao Yi.
"I’m not joking. This old man has suddenly fallen and suffered a stroke triggered by a thrombosis, and he absolutely must not be moved. If you trust me, I can save him right now. But if you mess around with him, not even a deity can save him," Xiao Yi lifted his eyes and glanced at him, then said lightly.
"Is there a doctor here?"
The security guard looked at the old man’s condition and then at Xiao Yi’s demeanor. His face displayed some hesitation for a while, then suddenly he looked up at the crowd of onlookers around them.
"I am a doctor."
This was the fourth floor, and the fifth floor housed the medical library. Many of the onlookers had just come down from the fifth floor, so naturally, there were doctors among them. That was the reason Xiao Yi had refrained from intervening earlier. He thought that another doctor would step forward, but unfortunately, until the security guard prepared to move the old man, no one had come forward.
After hearing the security guard’s call, a man in his thirties hesitantly raised his hand and stepped forward.
"Really? That’s great. Doctor, please come and see what’s wrong with this elderly gentleman. Is there any way you can save him?"
Upon hearing that there was a doctor, the security guard immediately pulled the doctor over with a delighted expression.
"But I am a Western doctor. There are no medical facilities here, and I came here to buy books. I don’t have any instruments with me..." The doctor stammered, his face flushed with embarrassment.
Tsk!
The crowd, upon hearing the doctor’s words and initially filled with hope, instantly turned to disappointment and disdain. The doctor who had stood up felt the stares of the people and his face heated up, wishing he could just disappear.
The security guard also turned his head in disappointment and looked back at the crowd, "Is there someone here who practices Chinese medicine?"
However, with the prior experience of the doctor, no one dared step forward. Even those in the crowd who were clearly holding books on Chinese medicine didn’t dare to volunteer, knowing all too well that the patient before them was a delicate case. Mishandling might not only damage their reputation but also hold them accountable.
"Let me do it!"
Xiao Yi scanned the crowd, then walked toward them lightly.
"No, young man, are you sure you are a doctor? Unless you have a medical license, I can’t let you treat anyone," the security guard called out several times. He hadn’t seen anyone step forward and, although he was somewhat disappointed, he knew it was unlikely anyone would. Putting himself in their shoes, he wouldn’t have volunteered either. But seeing Xiao Yi approach, he decisively blocked his path.
Despite this young man looking composed and initially impressing him with his assertions, if something were to happen to the old man here in the mall, it could potentially lead back to his own responsibility, so he had to be extra cautious.
"I don’t have a medical license," Xiao Yi stated lightly.
Xiao Yi naturally wouldn’t have such a thing; to him, it was simply irrelevant. He had never intended, nor did he need to rely on such a certificate to make a living by practicing medicine.
"Wow!"
As the crowd heard Xiao Yi nonchalantly admit he had no medical license, a surge of murmurs erupted. Those who had initially harbored some hope began casting doubtful glances his way, while the crowd began to whisper amongst themselves. This rash young man truly didn’t understand the gravity of the situation. These days, you find all sorts. A young man daring to speak so boldly without a medical license sparked such discussions, ceaselessly reaching Xiao Yi’s ears.
