Chapter 861: Chapter 857: Feeling Not Serious
"Two guests, sir?"
The hotel receptionist was a man who glanced up, flashing a faintly amused look at Chen Yang and Wang Qingyue.
"That’s right, two. Get me the two best rooms you have, preferably next to each other." Chen Yang responded casually, pulling out his ID from his pocket.
But when the receptionist heard this, he froze for a moment, then shook his head and said, "I’m sorry, sir, but we only have one presidential suite left."
"Only one left?" Chen Yang looked surprised on the surface but was secretly thrilled inside. Was this fate giving him an opportunity?
"Are there any rooms a tier below?" Before Chen Yang could relish the moment, Wang Qingyue chimed in with her own question.
Hearing this, Chen Yang’s secret delight abruptly vanished. He thought to himself, "There goes the opportunity."
To his surprise, though, the receptionist still shook his head. "Miss, I’m afraid not. It’s the weekend, peak time—our entire hotel is almost fully booked, and this is the only room available."
"What? This whole hotel only has one room left?" Wang Qingyue looked momentarily shocked, then, without hesitation, turned to leave with Chen Yang.
But at a moment like this, there was no way Chen Yang would let such a golden chance slip by.
Fate had placed the opportunity right in front of him. If he didn’t seize it, it would practically be a crime.
"Qingyue, don’t be in such a rush to leave. Let’s find out more about the situation first." Chen Yang grabbed Wang Qingyue’s arm to stop her.
Hearing this, Wang Qingyue paused and stopped walking.
Chen Yang chuckled and then turned back to negotiate with the receptionist.
After a bit of back-and-forth, he learned that because it was the weekend, nearly all the hotels and inns in the central area were fully booked.
After all, this was a lively county that never slept—vibrant nightlife meant booming business for hotels.
Hearing this, Wang Qingyue found herself in a dilemma.
If they didn’t take the room, it would mean staying farther from the center, which would be inconvenient for going out tonight or handling business meetings tomorrow.
But if they did take it, wouldn’t it be awkward for a man and a woman to share?
"Qingyue, why don’t we just take the room? You can sleep on the bed, and I’ll crash on the couch. The presidential suite is big enough; we can make it work for one night." Just as Wang Qingyue was deliberating, Chen Yang suddenly broke the silence with his suggestion.
Wang Qingyue looked slightly embarrassed but, after some thought, nodded in agreement. They could make do with one room.
After all, in the mountains, they had already been in close proximity before, so it wasn’t entirely unfamiliar or inconvenient.
"Alright."
Chen Yang smiled, then turned to the reception desk to finalize the room.
After handing over his ID and making the payment, Chen Yang got the room card and went upstairs with Wang Qingyue.
In the elevator, Chen Yang was inwardly cheering his luck. What a stroke of fortune to snag the very last available room.
Ding.
The elevator arrived at their floor.
"Let’s go. The room should be on this floor," Chen Yang said, glancing at the room card and stepping out.
Wang Qingyue followed him, and the two quickly located the room following the signs near the elevator.
Chen Yang swiped the room card, opened the door, and stepped into the suite.
This was the most luxurious hotel in the county, so the suite was undoubtedly stylish and grand in its design.
However, neither Chen Yang nor Wang Qingyue seemed particularly impressed; they were already used to such accommodations.
They had seen plenty of rooms like this—the novelty had long worn off.
Once inside, Chen Yang immediately plopped onto the sofa. After driving for over two hours, his legs were feeling a bit stiff.
"Phew—it’s been ages since I drove for this long. I’m not used to it anymore. If I’d known, I’d have let you drive instead," Chen Yang sighed.
Seated beside him on the sofa, Wang Qingyue chuckled at his words. "Do you want to know why I let you do the driving?"
"Oh, so you already saw this coming and decided to make me your driver?" Chen Yang replied, catching on.
"Haha, bingo."
Wang Qingyue laughed, covering her mouth, outright admitting it.
Chen Yang felt a little helpless—he had been played by this woman again.
With his eyes closed, he took the opportunity to rest briefly.
After about ten minutes, he suddenly opened his eyes and looked at Wang Qingyue. "There’s still plenty of time this afternoon. How about we head out for a walk? Just staying here is boring."
At that moment, Wang Qingyue was engrossed in her phone, though it wasn’t clear what she was looking at.
Hearing Chen Yang speak, she glanced up and responded, "A walk? What’s worth walking around for?"
Pfft.
Chen Yang almost laughed out loud on the spot. "Walking around—shopping—isn’t that supposed to be every woman’s favorite thing? Why are you questioning me about it?"
"Tch. I’m not your average woman. I don’t like shopping unless I actually need to buy something. Otherwise, I don’t bother," Wang Qingyue replied, slightly disdainful, her naturally assertive air surfacing immediately.
"Haha, alright then. If you’re not into it, I’ll just go by myself. Staying here is too dull," Chen Yang said, noticing her disinterest and not insisting. He figured exploring alone might be nice too.
Saying this, he stood up and walked toward the door.
Wang Qingyue didn’t stop him, simply reminding him to come back early before turning her attention back to her phone.
Chen Yang stepped out of the room, took the elevator downstairs, and left the hotel.
He wasn’t just wandering aimlessly, though. He had a goal in mind.
His hair had gotten a little too long, and he wanted to find a barbershop to get it trimmed.
After all, tomorrow was for business discussions; looking more polished and professional was a must.
Otherwise, walking around with Qingyue might have people assuming he was just her bodyguard—that would be awkward.
Chen Yang strolled for about ten minutes before spotting a rather shabby-looking barbershop on a quieter street.
Still, he went inside. All he needed was a trim, not some trendy hairstyle. There was no need to find a fancy place for that.
As he stepped in, he glanced around the shop, noting that the counter was located at the very back.
Behind the counter sat a woman with bright red hair and heavy white makeup that couldn’t quite hide her wrinkles—an "auntie."
The moment Chen Yang saw her, he felt something was off.
No respectable barbershop had employees dressed like this! Heavy makeup on a middle-aged woman? This usually signaled a less-than-legitimate establishment.
Sensing the odd vibe, Chen Yang turned to leave.
But before he could make his exit, the "auntie" noticed him.
Seeing a customer walk in, she immediately stood up and enthusiastically called out to him.
"Hey there, young man! Here for a haircut?"
Chen Yang hesitated briefly at her words and then replied, "Yeah, can you actually cut hair here?"
"Of course, of course! What kind of question is that? This is a barbershop—of course we do haircuts!" the "auntie" responded with a wide grin. She stepped out from behind the counter and warmly ushered him in. "Come on in, young man. We’ll start by washing your hair first, then cut it!"
Seeing how normal the setup seemed, Chen Yang figured he might have been overthinking things.
So, he nodded and stepped further inside.
Behind the counter, there was a door leading to another area of the shop.
At the "auntie’s" urging, Chen Yang walked through the door into the interior section of the barbershop.
Once he stepped in, the lighting grew dimmer, though all the equipment for washing hair was present.
"Young man, have a seat first. I’ll go call a girl to wash your hair for you," the "auntie" said cheerfully, pulling over a chair and motioning for Chen Yang to sit. Then, she disappeared further into the shop.
Still not sensing anything amiss, Chen Yang sat down in the chair and waited patiently.
