Chapter 793: Chapter 789 Too much relying on power

By this time, the sky was nearly dark. It was about time to tidy up and prepare dinner.

Wang Qingyue shook her head at the scene, then followed Chen Yang into the inner room to help out.

They spread a floor mat under the bed in advance.

After finishing with these tasks, Chen Yang asked Wang Qingyue what she’d like to eat for dinner so he could start cooking.

Wang Qingyue sat on the bed, thought for a moment, and then said, "I want to eat some fresh vegetables. We’ve been eating nothing but meat in the mountains these past few days—I’m sick of it."

"Alright, then wait here a bit while I go outside and pick some for you."

"Okay."

With that, Chen Yang took a vegetable basket from the house and headed out.

In the village, getting pork might be tricky, but vegetables were everywhere.

After all, it was the countryside—didn’t every household grow a bit of their own greens?

Carrying the basket, Chen Yang first stopped by the corner shop and greeted Niu Ming, affectionately referred to as Uncle Niu.

After getting Uncle Niu’s permission, he went to the vegetable patch at his house and gathered some cabbage and carrots.

Seeing that two vegetables still seemed a bit lacking, Chen Yang then headed to the temperature-controlled room to collect some wild mountain mushrooms.

"This should be enough."

Chen Yang returned home carrying the basket of vegetables.

Just as he walked through the door, he immediately heard a commotion in the backyard—a clash of feathers and fur.

"Oh no, those two must be fighting again." Hearing the noises, Chen Yang instantly knew what was happening.

He quickly set the basket down and rushed to the backyard.

Sure enough, it was exactly as he had guessed—the eagle and Wangcai were at it again.

The eagle stood fiercely, gazing down at Wangcai from its lofty perch like a true ruler.

As for Wangcai, it was hard to tell whether it was scared or under attack—it scrambled around wildly, shrieking and stumbling, looking as pitiful as could be.

"Brother Eagle! Stop fooling around—he’s one of us!"

Seeing this, Chen Yang quickly shouted at the eagle overhead, urging it to back off.

The eagle’s sharp eyes swept toward him at the sound of his voice. Upon realizing it was Chen Yang, its gaze softened immediately, and it flew toward him.

At the same time, Wangcai, who had been shrieking incessantly, heard Chen Yang’s voice and stopped to look over as well.

Once it confirmed that Chen Yang was indeed back, its expression shifted dramatically—it stopped wailing entirely.

Instead, puffing out its chest and holding its head high, it turned to the eagle and began barking furiously, its demeanor now brimming with feigned ferocity.

Chen Yang was once again left speechless by Wangcai’s overly reliant and audacious behavior.

"You better keep your mouth shut. If you irritate Brother Eagle, I’m not going to step in for you," Chen Yang said loudly.

"Awooo."

Upon hearing that, Wangcai immediately shrank back, no longer daring to bark at the eagle.

Chen Yang chuckled and shook his head, deciding to leave Wangcai alone for now. Turning to the eagle, he gave it instructions: "This guy’s going to be living at your feet from now on. Just don’t bully him—he’s family."

Brother Eagle’s fierce expression softened noticeably at Chen Yang’s words. Its gaze toward Wangcai was no longer one of outright aggression.

However, there was a hint of disdain—perhaps it looked down on Wangcai’s overly dependent and arrogant way of behaving.

"Wangcai, you need to toughen up! You’ve just met Brother Eagle, and he already looks down on you. How are you going to hold your ground in this courtyard?" Chen Yang said with a smile, addressing Wangcai.

"Woof woof woof."

Wangcai responded with a few excited barks, though Chen Yang could make no sense of them.

He decided not to bother with Wangcai anymore—as long as the two weren’t clashing, how they got along wasn’t much of a concern.

"Thanks for keeping watch these past few days—here’s a reward for you."

Chen Yang pulled out a Body-Tempering Elixir from his pocket and handed it to the eagle.

The eagle, cool and aloof just a moment ago, lit up at the sight of the elixir. It fluttered its wings furiously, snatched the elixir from Chen Yang’s hand, and perched onto the peach tree to swallow it down.

After eating the elixir, the eagle chirped a few times—it was unclear whether it was too excited or trying to express gratitude to Chen Yang.

It finished chirping and flew back to its nest.

Chen Yang knew the eagle was going to digest the medicinal powers, so he didn’t disturb it further. He turned to leave the backyard and prepare dinner.

But before he could leave, Wangcai came rushing over, barking at him and blocking his way.

"What is it? Something on your mind?"

Chen Yang looked at Wangcai wagging its head, puzzled by its antics.

"Woof woof!"

Wangcai barked twice in the direction of the eagle’s nest.

"What, you don’t want to stay with Brother Eagle?" Chen Yang guessed tentatively.

Wangcai shook its head again.

Chen Yang paused for a moment in confusion until he caught on.

"Do you want to eat one of these too?" Chen Yang pulled out a Body-Tempering Elixir and held it in front of Wangcai.

"Woof woof!"

Wangcai’s reaction to the elixir was identical to the eagle’s. Its eyes lit up, and it was brimming with excitement.

In front of Chen Yang, it wagged its head and bared its teeth, a goofy and exaggerated caricature of a husky.

"Wangcai, you have to remember you’re a guard dog! You’re supposed to be fierce—not wagging your head and acting all high and mighty!" Chen Yang shouted.

Yet his words had no effect on Wangcai.

It kept wagging its head frantically, its face full of yearning for the elixir.

Chen Yang sighed in exasperation at this behavior.

"You better learn a thing or two from Brother Eagle—look how fierce and majestic he is! You’ve got some serious remodeling to do." With an eye roll, Chen Yang decided not to waste his breath on Wangcai anymore.

He simply tossed the elixir he was holding.

Wangcai instantly chased after it, leaping into the air to snatch the elixir.

Chen Yang caught sight of this midair maneuver and thought to himself: maybe Wangcai does have some potential after all.

If not for moments like this, Wangcai would just seem like an entirely reliant and audacious husky.

Chen Yang chuckled and shook his head, leaving the backyard to head into the kitchen.

Since the dinner included only vegetables, it didn’t take more than half an hour for Chen Yang to cook and set the table.

"Qingyue, dinner’s ready,"

Chen Yang called out toward the room after setting everything up, letting Wang Qingyue know she could come to eat.

"Coming,"

Wang Qingyue replied, stepping out of the room a moment later.

Seeing her, Chen Yang froze for a moment.

He hadn’t expected her to take the time to shower and change into a fresh outfit during his cooking break.

No longer wearing her hiking gear, Wang Qingyue exuded a soft, gentle aura that left Chen Yang dazed for a moment.

"Wow, I said I wanted vegetables, but you went all out—there’s not a single piece of meat!" Wang Qingyue didn’t notice Chen Yang’s fleeting daze and immediately commented on the dishes upon sitting down.

Chen Yang snapped out of it and chuckled. "You did say you were tired of eating meat, so I thought I’d avoid making any."

Wang Qingyue gave him a speechless look. "Alright, fine—vegetables only will do."

With that, she picked up her chopsticks and started eating.

Seeing this, Chen Yang didn’t say anything more. He grabbed his chopsticks and joined her.

Though both of them were tired of meat, this entirely meatless meal took some adjusting to.

Regardless, this wasn’t the time to start cooking again, so the two simply made do.

By the time dinner was finished, the sky was fully dark.

Chen Yang headed to the backyard alone to practice the Eight Section Fist!

Earlier that day, he had used the Eight Section Fist in actual combat for the first time and achieved promising results, making him even more serious about mastering this technique.

"Having brute strength but no skill, no technique or routine—it’s not going to work!" As Chen Yang practiced, he thought to himself, "When Old Master Wang visits tomorrow, I’ve got to find an opportunity to request a few manuals or something to improve my abilities."
