Chapter 429: Chapter 1 Sword Madman Leaves the Gate!_2
"To the south lies Chen Country, to the north is Ying Country, and by following the great rivers, you reach Central State."
"Both Chen Country and Ying Country wish to devour this piece of flesh. The armies of both Chen and Ying country lurk on either side, their iron cavalry moves through the Martial World of these Eighteen States, clashing with the sons of the Murong Family on more than one occasion."
"Now, after ten years of hard training, every son of the Murong Family has mastered the Horsemanship and Swordsmanship to a point where they can engage the iron cavalry from a hundred steps away, and once dismounted, they can combine the long iron staves with the broadswords to form foot combat weapons with blades seven feet long and a total length of ten feet, sharpened on both sides due to its nature as a sword."
"When they execute the Murong Family’s Heavy Sword Skills within ten steps, both men and horses are cleaved in two."
"It’s hard to tell whether they’re Martial World disciples or warriors from the Military School."
"Both regions have strict military formations and gates with rigorous questioning."
"If this old man wasn’t somewhat capable, I wouldn’t have been able to slip over here!"
Ignoring Siming’s complaints, Sword Madman inquired:
"Is it possible for you to find my two children?"
Siming smirked and said, "I’d like to search, but I can barely sense Li Guanyi. That boy is slippery, I don’t know where he picked up such tracking skills, constantly curving his path, and often doubling back."
"After crossing the river, he’d double back from another place."
"He even intentionally leaves misleading traces."
"Several times over."
"Moreover, with Elder Xue’s maneuverings, Chen Country’s first-string elite troops haven’t made their move, and now their second-string troops are being led around like walking a dog by him."
"As for your little granddaughter, her presence is as if it has vanished. I’ve thought about it, and possibly the world’s best at escaping is by your granddaughter’s side."
Sword Madman inquired, "Who is it?"
Siming replied:
"She is from one of the Three Sects of the World, the youngest in generations to receive her title before reemerging into the world. She got the name Shaking Light ten years earlier than the current Breaking Army of her generation. She is not skilled in Martial Arts, but her mastery of Mystical Skills and Formations is very high."
"Even this old man from so far away wouldn’t think of finding her."
"Then we will first search for Guan Yi."
"No..."
Siming said, "I have an intuition that the little girl will probably soon seek out your great-grandson."
"Then, as if with a snap on a map, she would turn into a patch of darkness."
"Ah, it’s not that I’m incompetent; you know what I’m capable of. But each generation has a few unruly geniuses, and if she really wants to hide, not even her master and grandmaster would be able to find her... It’s really not a matter of my incompetence!"
Sword Madman asked, "You cannot find her?"
Siming replied, "Unless she wishes to be found, then perhaps someone might discover her repeatedly."
Contemplatively, Sword Madman said, "So, that’s why you’ve arrived so calmly, without urgency."
Siming’s face froze, then he coughed and exclaimed loudly, "What do you mean no urgency!"
"What ’no urgency’! Don’t slander me!"
With a carefree smile, Sword Madman said, "No need to be so serious, I understand.
"So, you mean..." Siming hesitated before asking, "Are you going to search for them?" He continued after a moment’s pause, "The Jiangnan Eighteen States are still here only because you are. The battle when you reached the pinnacle of grandmastership left a profound impression on the iron cavalry of both Chen and Ying countries.
"Hence, their offensive against the Jiangnan Eighteen States has always been restrained."
"But you also know, as soon as you leave, the havoc wrought by Ying Country on this land over a decade ago, and Chen Country’s retreat without a fight could happen once more; even, this time Chen Country will not retreat as before, but will also be an aggressor."
"Your departure would mean the destruction of the Jiangnan Eighteen States."
"It’s a balance."
Murong Longtu, the Sword Madman, nodded and said, "You are right."
Siming was surprised, as he hadn’t expected Murong Longtu to agree so straightforwardly.
Testing the waters, Siming said, "So, you will not go after them?"
Murong Longtu declared, "Of course I will."
Old Siming, confused, said, "What about here then?"
Murong Longtu stood up, stating indifferently:
"I must save those two children; I must also protect the Jiangnan Eighteen States."
"A true man in this world should never have to choose."
Siming was so taken aback by such a calm statement that he was left speechless.
"Please wait, senior, while I wash and change my clothes. With such an appearance, I cannot meet my children."
Murong Longtu stood up, and without any visible effort, the sword of a Murong Family disciple guarding the door buzzed and flew out of its scabbard, hovering in front of the Sword Madman. Ignoring the ninety-six mystical weapons, he gently brushed his finger over the Hundred-refined Iron Sword.
The long sword buzzed, its scabbard separating from the blade.
The blade shone clear, like a stretch of Qiushui; while the scabbard was engraved with the pattern of Elder Shou holding a peach among South Mountain.
Touching the sword Murong Longtu calmly declared:
"You go to Chen Country."
He then tapped the scabbard:
"You go to Ying Country."
This ordinary Hundred-refined Iron Sword buzzed twice and then instantly transformed into a ray of light that shot off, one southward, one northward. Standing there, his hair and nails now white and long, Murong Longtu said, "Wait here, senior. I shall go to bathe and change."
Siming could only nod.
Outside, the night watchman passed by, striking his clapper.
Old Siming drank tea, then ate some fruit. The Jiangnan Eighteen States might not be wealthy, but Martial Artists wandering the world could easily lodge and eat well in a small county town just by entering. Those who made their way to this sacred land of the Martial World typically had full purses.
Old Siming stretched out comfortably and lay on his side, eating pastries.
The night watchman passed by again, clapping his clapper.
A night had passed.
The sword and its scabbard had returned.
