Chapter 141: Chapter 143 The Furious Monkey King
"The Monkey King will walk with me?" Mu Can felt he must meet this old tiger that had taken over the monkeys’ territory.
It was very likely that his chance to leave the maze lay with this tiger, since the original residents within the maze were basically confined to their respective chambers and could not pass through the doors between them.
Yet this tiger was clearly an exception.
Mu Can’s medicine was quite effective; in just a short while, the old monkey had recovered considerably.
Hearing Mu Can’s words, the old monkey also looked excited.
"I was just waiting to get better before seeking payback," said the old monkey, rubbing his hands together in preparation.
Mu Can looked at the old monkey, thinking to himself, "Nearly got beaten to death and still daring to seek revenge, this Monkey King sure has a fiery temper."
"Your strength, Monkey King?" Mu Can almost blurted out the question, but he stopped himself at the last moment, fearful of saying something too offensive and hurting the Monkey King’s pride.
It was evident that the monkeys living here were also kindly creatures, very different from those Demon Beasts who would readily eat people.
"Chatter chatter chatter." The monkey leader chimed in upon seeing his father’s eagerness for revenge.
"He says he wants to go too," Mu Can was truly impressed by Little Red’s performance; the little translator was doing an admirable job.
"You can’t go; your strength is too low, and I’d be distracted protecting you." Mu Can shook his head at the monkey leader. He had not yet experienced a battle at the Martial Venerate Level, but he imagined it would be extremely dangerous. Bringing along a monkey at the Peak of Martial King would not be of much use.
The old Monkey King was also incited by his son’s words, bursting into a tirade of scolding that made the monkey leader’s face turn as red as his own butt.
"We should not delay. Let’s go meet that old tiger again, the damned thing nearly killed me last time." Having lost to the tiger once, the Monkey King was itching for a rematch as soon as he had recovered.
Mu Can turned his head to look at Purple Cloud, seeking her opinion on attempting a challenge at the Martial Venerate Level for the first time. He was not completely confident.
Seeing Purple Cloud nod, Mu Can felt reassured; with Purple Cloud backing him up, a surge of boldness welled up inside him.
Purple Cloud noticed Mu Can’s reaction and slightly furrowed her brows, as if pondering some issue.
"This kid relies on me too much, which isn’t good for his growth, but how should I tell him?" Purple Cloud contemplated, realizing that ever since regaining her strength, Mu Can would always subtly be aware of her presence in battle.
As long as she was by his side, Mu Can would have this strong sense of confidence, a phenomenon even he had not noticed.
Purple Cloud pondered for a moment and then made a decision.
As soon as the old Monkey King decided to move, he grabbed a long staff from the bed and started pulling Mu Can towards the cave’s exit.
Mu Can stumbled as he was pulled along, nearly falling over, and only then did he realize that despite losing to the tiger outside, the Monkey King was a genuine Martial Venerate powerhouse.
"Slow down, slow down," Mu Can was tightly gripped by the Monkey King.
This Monkey King was indeed impetuous.
A monkey and a human advanced at high speed, with Purple Cloud and Xiaohong following from a distance, maintaining a gap that was neither too far nor too close.
"That tiger, your monkey grandpa is here for revenge."
The monkey group’s original habitat was far superior to the current cave environment.
Groves of fruit trees covered the area, laden with all kinds of fruits, and a clear stream next to the woods provided them with a water source.
At the very center of the fruit grove was a giant peach tree, currently full of huge Immortal Peaches, so enticing that they could make anyone drool.
With a roar from the old Monkey King, the tiger sleeping on the peach tree was instantly disturbed.
Though a tiger, aside from its head and limbs, its torso closely resembled that of a human.
It even wore a grey, shabby-looking Daoist robe.
"Oh, it’s you, little monkey. Didn’t I swell your monkey butt last time? Oh dear, you’ve even brought some help." The tiger stood up, ate a fresh peach, and threw the leftover half towards the Monkey King.
The tiger, initially lounging lazily in the tree and asleep, was displeased to be woken up by the Monkey King’s shout and glared at the old monkey.
The old monkey, already hot-tempered, couldn’t stand the tiger’s disregard and how it ruined the Immortal Peaches he once treasured. In a fit of rage, he picked up his stick and charged towards the tiger.
"Dizzy." Mu Can watched helplessly as the Monkey King rushed forward to tussle with the tiger.
This Monkey King was far too impulsive. Mu Can had only just escaped death, and even if he had regained most of his strength, he definitely wasn’t a match for the tiger, which had been recuperating here. And just like that, they started fighting.
As expected, it didn’t take many rounds before the Monkey King was once again pummeled to the ground by the tiger, lying there like a dead dog.
"Damn you, trickster, let me get up, I want to fight you for three hundred rounds." Even lying defeated by the tiger, the Monkey King remained stubborn.
"Is there something wrong with your head, monkey?" The tiger punched the Monkey King, causing him pain, and the Monkey King instantly passed out.
Mu Can felt as though the world suddenly turned serene the moment the Monkey King fainted.
"Kid, what are you here for? There’s an opening for someone to wash fruits for the tiger lord here; you interested?" The tiger beckoned Mu Can with a finger, asking in a contemptuous tone.
"Little tiger, young master here needs a mount; are you interested?" Mu Can looked at the tiger, asking with the same contempt, as if the creature before him wasn’t a powerful Tiger of Martial Venerate strength, but merely a small dog.
"Arrogant." The tiger’s expression changed. It was a mythical being of some renown, a Demon Cultivator who had never before been treated as a mount. Now this kid dared to say such things; the tiger itched to pounce on Mu Can and eat him right away.
"Talk is cheap, let’s fight." Mu Can’s blood boiled with excitement. This was his first time facing an opponent of Martial Venerate level. In this battle, he decided to defeat the tiger without Purple Cloud’s help.
"Little brat, you’re too oblivious to what is good for you. Although I’m on a vegetarian diet now, that doesn’t mean I spare lives," the tiger said with a vicious look, staring intently at Mu Can.
"Young master indeed needs a mount for transportation." Mu Can was full of fighting spirit, determined that if he won against this tiger, he would not only uncover the tiger’s secrets but also tame it as his mount.
Xiaofuqi was still too young to carry Mu Can, and not to mention Xiaohong, even if Mu Can dared to sit on it, he wouldn’t dare to ride it.
But this Martial Venerate Level tiger, if it could really be tamed as a mount, riding it would definitely turn heads.
