Chapter 130: Chapter 130 The Labyrinth Opens
The next few people did not speak anymore, instead silently contemplating their next move. Among the five individuals, only three could survive, so their subsequent actions would also need to change accordingly.
If only one of the five could survive, then every other person would be an enemy. But now that the rules had changed, some battles might be avoided.
Waiting is always lengthy, time ticking away second by second, everyone anxiously awaiting.
"The Death Maze is open." A heavenly voice sounded, five beams of light descended from above, striking the five people present with precision.
The light beams vanished in the blink of an eye, and so did the figures of those five people.
Mu Can only felt dizzy for a moment, and the next he found himself in a different place.
"How magical." Though he had witnessed the terrifying power of his uncle-master Xu Chao, he was still shocked by the grandeur of the Great Power that created the Death Space.
He found himself in a secret chamber, which unlike a typical one, had doors on all sides that seemed as if they could be pushed open with ease.
Mu Can first pushed open the door in front of him. "Holy crap."
"What happened?" Purple Cloud also came out from the Reincarnation Pearl to Mu Can’s side, staring dumbfounded at what lay beyond the door.
Behind the secret chamber’s door was still another chamber, distinct only in that it was much larger, and within it grew an enormous tree adorned with densely packed fruits— upon closer inspection, these fruits were actually cultivators wrapped in leaves, hanging upside down from the tree.
"Investigation." Mu Can hadn’t forgotten that he still carried the number thirty-six with him.
"Devouring God Tree, a unique plant found within the Death Maze." Besides this, number thirty-six did not provide any other useful information.
Mu Can looked around and noticed a small gourd placed in front of the tree trunk, with a tree branch hanging over the gourd’s mouth, dripping spiritual liquid into it.
As he was observing, a shadowy figure stealthily approached the giant tree—Mu Can focused and saw.
"It’s him." The one who came was Red Eagle, who was trying his best to hide his figure and slowly approach the gourd.
"Investigation." Mu Can directed the command toward the gourd.
"Life Divine Liquid, the essence produced by the Devouring God Tree consuming the life force of cultivators, can extend a cultivator’s life and enhance the vitality of a cultivator’s body."
A treasure, in the Mortal World, anything that could extend the lifespan of cultivators was an invaluable treasure; this gourd full of Life Spirit Liquid could enhance the life of many people at the brink of death.
Even with Mu Can’s discernment, he could not help but be tempted.
This gourd full of Life Divine Liquid, if brought back, could greatly extend the life of Xuanyuan Mingkong.
"Holy crap." Mu Can’s eyes widened in shock.
Red Eagle, who stealthily approached the gourd, suddenly dodged as a long branch descended from above, ferociously piercing the ground where he had just stood, inserting itself deep into the soil, causing Red Eagle to break out in a cold sweat.
In the next second, a wild barrage of attacks ensued; branches like spears violently launched an assault towards Red Eagle.
Hundreds of branches surged forth mightily, each tip as sharp as a spear point, creating deep pits when they struck the ground.
Red Eagle could only retreat continuously in the face of such a fierce attack, attempting to move back to the secret chamber they had come from.
But it seemed as though the giant tree had discovered his intention, as a massive branch directly blocked the entrance through which Red Eagle had come, cutting off his route of escape.
"Little kid, take a look at those Cultivators who are hung up," Purple Cloud seemed to have discovered something, reminding Mu Can.
Mu Can observed carefully and saw that all of the Cultivators who were wrapped and suspended had already died, but their bodies were at various stages of decomposition. There was one corpse in particular, its flesh and blood completely gone, revealing golden skeleton remains. Leaves and vines wrapped around the bones, and a continuous stream of energy was transferring along the branches into the body of the giant tree. It was unclear through what process this had formed the Life Divine Liquid below.
"Did you discover anything?" Purple Cloud asked.
"This giant tree must have been deliberately planted here, specifically to hunt Cultivators who enter the Death Maze. Just by looking at some of the corpses, even the weakest was at Martial Venerate strength," Mu Can said.
He had thought that within the Death Space, Martial King-level strength would be the pinnacle. Yet here he was, able to see Cultivators above the Martial Venerate Level. What did this imply?
There must be more than one Death Space, and they must be divided according to strength. Otherwise, any random Martial Venerate could sweep through all the Cultivators below Martial King-level, rendering the trials of the Death Space meaningless.
"Red Eagle is not going to make it." Seeing Red Eagle dodging clumsily under the tree’s frenzied attacks, he quickly became panting and out of breath. There were simply too many branches, nearly enveloping Red Eagle completely.
"Chiu." With a piercing eagle cry, Red Eagle transformed into a palm-sized eaglet.
The benefit of a smaller body was obvious, making Red Eagle far nimbler than before, soaring and diving in the air to dodge the branches’ assaults.
Red Eagle was originally the overlord of the skies, a type of Demon Beast that lived in the air. Now, having reverted to its true form, its previously powerless state of dodging was completely gone, replaced by the ease of a fish in water.
"Amazing," Mu Can clicked his tongue in awe.
Unfortunately, the good times didn’t last long. Seeing its own attacks rendered ineffective, the giant tree, as if provoked, wove its branches together to form nets, launching them towards Red Eagle.
The Spiritual Wisdom of the Devouring God Tree was not low; it knew to use a net for birds.
The situation changed instantaneously. Red Eagle, who had been flying freely, was immediately trapped under a large net and struggled powerlessly within it.
Seeing Red Eagle struggling fiercely, a tree branch suddenly pierced into Red Eagle’s body. Something was injected into it, and Red Eagle quickly stopped struggling and fell unconscious.
The branches tied up Red Eagle and suspended him upside down from the giant tree.
Only then did Mu Can realize that this was how the Cultivators on this tree had been conquered.
Poor Red Eagle, just because it wanted that gourd of Divine Liquid, had been turned into nourishment for the giant tree.
"Should we save it?" Purple Cloud looked at Mu Can and asked.
The Life Divine Liquid had a certain effect on Purple Cloud too. She had just reshaped her body, and her foundation was not particularly stable. If she had the Life Divine Liquid, she could recover more quickly.
Mu Can thought for a moment; he was determined to get that gourd, "If there’s a chance, we’ll save it. If not, we’ll just take the gourd."
