Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Mysterious Powerhouse

"Reincarnation Mansion." Mu Can led Purple Cloud into the City Lord Mansion, pushing open its grand doors.

Mu Can wasn’t afraid of any danger; after all, in a certain sense, he was the master of the Reincarnation Pearl. Within one’s own magic treasure, what was there to fear?

But what puzzled Mu Can was that the City Lord Mansion was still devoid of people, like a soulless corpse, not a single silhouette in sight.

"Is anyone there?" Mu Can shouted loudly, but received no response.

"What on earth is this place?" Mu Can looked around the City Lord Mansion, a trace of suspicion on his face.

"There must be something we have not yet discovered," Purple Cloud said with confusion. By logic, the Second Level should be more powerful than the first; the Soul Space of the First Level was already defying the heavens, so what could possibly be hidden within the Second Level?

"Let’s look around; the secret is definitely hidden in this city," Mu Can decided. He wouldn’t leave the Reincarnation Pearl until the function of the Second Level was discovered. The place where he entered had already been converted into a safe area, meaning he didn’t have to worry about the issue of not leaving within five days.

What Mu Can didn’t know was that the outside world was also seeing very few battles now. Everyone was cautiously hiding, preparing for the final battle.

The appearance of a battle could easily attract scavengers looking to profit from it. Therefore, unless assured of a quick victory, no one would rashly initiate a fight. Everyone was silently searching for resources hidden within the Death Space, silently preparing.

"Hmm, the Second Level must be no simple matter," nodded Purple Cloud. If the function of the Second Level remained unknown, what would be the use of unlocking it?

"Is there anyone?" As Mu Can searched for potential clues, he continued to shout loudly, but just as before, did not receive any response, nor did he make any discovery.

"Reincarnation City, Reincarnation Mansion. If this city had a City Lord, where would he hide the secret?"

"Where would a person’s secret lie?"

Mu Can pondered fiercely, considering places that might hide the secret.

"I’ve got it, to the study!" Suddenly, an idea flashed in Mu Can’s mind.

The study, since ancient times, was a place most capable of hiding secrets. A place only for the study’s owner, where only the owner could take a moment of joyful peace.

For example, hiding in the cool study reading books during the hot summer, or inviting a few friends over for a heart-to-heart talk; for a Cultivator with deep feelings, the study’s importance is virtually the same as the place one uses to cultivate in seclusion.

Cultivation is important, but cultivation of the heart is even more so.

Mu Can’s master, Xuanyuan Mingkong, had a study considered to be the most luxurious in the Immortal Ancient Academy. As the favored Mu Can, he was one of the very few allowed to read books in Xuanyuan Mingkong’s study, and many secrets that Mu Can knew of were found there.

"The study," upon hearing Mu Can’s words, Purple Cloud’s eyes brightened as well. If the secret of the Second Level was hidden within this city, the most likely place would be the City Lord Mansion.

And within the City Lord Mansion, the place most likely hiding the secret would be the City Lord’s study.

"It’s over there." The study would typically be in a quiet corner; no one likes to be disturbed while reading.

Rather than a place to read, the study was where one could enjoy tranquility and let the mind wander.

Opening the doors of the study, Mu Can led Purple Cloud inside.

The scene within the study wasn’t disappointing at all, as soon as they entered, it felt different from the outside.

It felt as if time had frozen in the study; the incense burner was still emitting smoke, and there was a cup of hot tea on the desk, as if it had just been brewed.

The study looked as though its owner had just stepped out.

"Is anyone here?" Mu Can asked cautiously, afraid the City Lord would suddenly appear and corner him.

At that thought, Mu Can felt somewhat guilty, as if he were an uninvited thief.

"No, look, there’s a letter on the desk," Purple Cloud pointed out. Mu Can then noticed a sealed letter lying on the desk.

He walked over, took the letter, and gently tore it open, extracting a piece of unidentifiable paper from the envelope.

"Why would they choose to use a letter?" Mu Can wondered, puzzled.

Under normal circumstances, a communication Jade Scroll would seem more logical.

"Quickly, see what it says," urged Purple Cloud.

The gist of the letter was as follows.

This city used to be the core main city of a Plane, with numerous strong entities. The city’s City Lord was known as a Heaven Rank expert, the strongest in this Plane. With a Heaven Rank powerhouse in place, there was no war throughout the Plane; disputes that did occur were healthy competitions.

But one day, everything changed, and countless Demons appeared throughout the Plane. The Demons were so powerful that the City Lords were defeated in droves, eventually retreating within the city.

During that time, a mysterious powerful entity appeared, reaching an agreement with the City Lord. The powerful entity would save them, but the City Lord and his people had to fall into a deep sleep, awaiting the arrival of someone with destiny.

It’s not hard to guess the City Lord’s decision. Rather than dying at the hands of Demons, it was better to trust this mysterious entity. Indeed, the entity defeated all the Demons but took the city into the Reincarnation Pearl. Subsequently, all citizens entered a sleeping state.

As the strongest entity, the City Lord was the last to fall asleep, leaving this letter before doing so.

"Could the mysterious strong entity be the Creator of the Reincarnation Pearl?" Mu Can asked, his face filled with excitement.

If they could create the Reincarnation Pearl, how powerful must this mysterious entity be? Certainly more so than the one who created the Death Space.

"Very likely." Purple Cloud felt overwhelmed, as if her mind was insufficient. Ever since she awoke from the Reincarnation Pearl, she has been dealing with things far beyond her abilities.

She had thought her Immortal Venerable Level power was respected in both the mortal and immortal realms, not quite the peak, but close. Yet now, she realized how frog-like her perspective was, looking up from the bottom of a well, with so many stronger entities existing.

"How powerful they must be, to have taken the Plane’s strongest main city here," Mu Can also felt his imagination was inadequate to fully grasp the strength of the Creator of the Reincarnation Pearl.

"How can we activate this main city?" Mu Can believed that since the city had been left behind, it was surely prepared for someone destined to be its master.

"Activate the main city," Purple Cloud began to ponder as well.
