Chapter 579: 542 Adopting Tongtong (2 updates)

"This is the real death certificate of Tongtong, my daughter-in-law is a hardworking and earnest good woman, she and my son worked very hard, maybe it was too much strain during the pregnancy, or something else, Tongtong eventually died in the womb,"

"But, that’s just the way Heaven is, our family has longed for a child, yet there are people who don’t cherish their own children, abandoning a sick baby with congenital illnesses in the hospital corridor. My son and daughter-in-law couldn’t bear to see that and brought the child back home."

"And then, we had the current Tongtong, who is so sensible it breaks our hearts."

Lu Han: "..."

Even Lu Han hadn’t expected Tongtong, this poor little guy, to have such a complicated life story.

He had a tough fate, born with illness, and was an abandoned baby, but his fate also turned out to be quite good, having met such a kind-hearted family. For a child with no blood relation to them, they truly treated him as if he were their own.

Lu Han took a deep breath, "Elder, your family are good people, you and Grandma should now be enjoying your later years in peace. As for Tongtong, my wife and I will take responsibility for the road he has left to journey."

Tongtong’s grandpa was momentarily stunned, then persuaded him, "Doctor Lu, actually, the reason I brought out these things today was indeed because I had this idea in mind, but I didn’t expect that it would be such a coincidence with your thoughts."

"However, Doctor Lu, you are married, and this matter, I think you should discuss it well with Mrs. Lu before making a decision. I don’t want the situation with our family to cause discord between you and your wife."

"Grandpa Tongtong, you are overthinking it, that won’t happen. With this, I can represent my wife, trust me."

"Hmm, of course I trust you. Transferring the guardianship of the child to you, our village council can provide a proof. When the time comes, we’ll go to the police station to handle the formalities, and then transfer the child’s household registration to your names. Tongtong will then be your child, and in the future, when he grows up, he will need to support you in your old age."

Grandpa Tongtong was particularly excited.

"Alright, we’ll do as you say. Let’s go to the village council now to get the proof. Tang Su and I will be going to Beijing after a while, and if you and Grandma are still in good health and have the time, we welcome you to Beijing to have a drink at the wedding feast Tang Su and I are having."

"Congratulations, congratulations, and thank you for not minding the issues our family has faced and still inviting us, the elderly, to your wedding banquet. Thank you, Doctor Lu, but really, we won’t go. Our village has its customs and, please don’t mind, but we, the elderly, cannot feign ignorance."

"Grandpa Tongtong..."

"Doctor Lu, don’t say anymore. That you and your wife are willing to take over Tongtong is really a great kindness and debt we could never forget. Please accept thanks on behalf of my son and daughter-in-law."

"No need to thank me, Grandpa Tongtong."

After the agreement, Grandpa Tongtong excitedly shared the good news with Tongtong’s grandma, who was moved to tears. She held Tang Su’s hand and kept saying thank you, calling her a good person and saying she would surely have a great fortune in this life.

Tang Su was initially confused but then, upon hearing Tongtong’s grandma tell Tongtong that after he went with Lu Han and Tang Su, he must listen to them,

and that in the future, he would need to start calling them mom and dad,

Tang Su then understood what decision Lu Han had made.

She held Tongtong’s hand, feeling the little tremble in his small body.

Soon, Lu Han and Grandpa Tongtong came over, and the four adults, along with Tongtong who hadn’t spoken a word, went to the village council to obtain a certificate. Tongtong was almost ten years old, so the village council also sought the opinion of the child.

Tongtong had previously heard his grandparents discussing that they wanted to find him a better family to send him to. He had no choice but to go along, understanding in his heart that when he had his parents, the grandparents were able to help look after him on behalf of his parents.

Now, with his parents gone and his grandparents old and in failing health, and with his own poor health as a child who wasn’t healthy, he knew that aside from his parents and grandparents, there would likely be no one else willing to take him in.

He had not expected that Lu Han and Tang Su would want him, and they seemed not to be troubled at all, nor did they consider him a burden.

"Tongtong, are you willing?" the village committee director asked Tongtong.

"He is willing," Tongtong’s grandpa chimed in from the side. Back in the hospital, Tongtong had always liked Doctor Lu best.

"Tongtong’s grandpa, this is the procedure, we must let the child speak for himself."

"We need to record this. Otherwise, if one party has a change of heart later and blames us, that would be problematic."

"Yes, yes, you ask him then," Tongtong’s grandpa, who was reasonable, allowed them to go through the process.

"Are you willing, Tongtong?"

"I am willing," Tongtong nodded and said loudly.

If it had been someone else, perhaps he would not be so willing, but with Lu Han and Tang Su, he was very willing.

"Good, the two of you, we need both the original and a photocopy of your marriage certificate, as well as the adoption agreement, which both parties must sign."

"Mm," Lu Han took out his marriage certificate.

Before coming here, he had prepared all these.

When he and Tang Su learned of the accidental death of Tongtong’s parents, they had looked at each other, and although neither had mentioned adopting Tongtong, both could see into the other’s heart.

So, when Tang Su heard Tongtong’s grandma tell Tongtong to call her mom from now on, she was not too surprised.

To adopt a child, it was proper to complete the adoption procedures.

After getting the certificate from the village committee, they went to the police station to process the documents. With all the procedures completed, the next steps were left for Lu Han and Tang Su. There was no need for Tongtong’s grandparents to follow and sign.

The news that Tongtong was going to Beijing with Lu Han spread quickly throughout Hongwu Village. When they returned from the police station, everyone looked at Lu Han and Tang Su differently.

Not everyone is capable of performing good deeds, but when it comes to those who do, their eyes shine with admiration, awe, and respect.

That night, Tongtong stayed at home.

While chatting with the villagers, Tang Su learned that there was a decorator in the town who took private jobs and did work that was well-crafted. Therefore, without delay, Tang Su discussed with Lu Han and invited the person to Tongtong’s place that very night, to provide a renovation plan. Tang Su simply wanted the elderly couple to have a comfortable environment for their later years.

Tongtong’s grandparents had no choice but to accept, propositioning to pay for the renovation themselves.

Lu Han had already transferred the money, and the decorator assured them that he would do the best job in the shortest time possible.

During the renovation, Lu Han also found a place for the elderly couple to stay.

Once all of Tongtong’s concerns had been addressed, Tongtong set off for Hua City with Lu Han and Tang Su.

Tongtong’s grandparents cried as they saw him off, but these were not tears of sorrow, rather tears of joy for Tongtong’s happiness.
