Chapter 465: 432 She and Tongtong are truly fated (2 more)
"We don’t have a problem, really; we just worry about being too much of a bother to you. Plus, when you have the time, you two should go out and enjoy your romance, instead of spending all your time with Tongtong," Tongtong’s grandma said somewhat embarrassedly.
"It’s no trouble at all, Tongtong’s grandma. Lu Han and I really like Tongtong, and if I could be sure my future children would be as well-behaved as Tongtong, I’d be happy to have several more," Tang Su said earnestly. She wasn’t just flattering.
She truly felt a special bond with Tongtong.
"Miss Tang, thank you for truly caring for our Tongtong. I believe that your and Doctor Lu’s children will definitely be obedient and sensible. You two are really good people."
"Thank you for your kind words, Tongtong’s grandma, but I hardly dare to accept such praise," Tang Su said, unable to handle being complimented like this.
In the eyes of some people, she was not considered a good person, like Jiang Shanshan, and Ouyang Jingjing.
She just happened to have a connection with Tongtong.
They got along well.
"In that case, we’ll leave Tongtong in your and Doctor Lu’s care. Thank you so much," Tongtong’s grandma said with sincere gratitude.
"You’re welcome. Tongtong, go put on your shoes; we’re heading to the amusement park to have fun," Tang Su said.
"Yay!"
After all, Tongtong was still a child not yet ten years old; naturally, the thought of going to an amusement park made him very happy.
When getting into the car, Tang Su voluntarily sat in the back seat to keep Tongtong company, and Lu Han didn’t say anything.
He would just be a good, obedient driver for today.
After getting into the car, Tang Su suddenly remembered a problem: Tongtong had so many illnesses, and both of his parents were working out of town just to earn money for his surgery and nursing care.
Is Tongtong attending school?
"Is Tongtong going to school?" Tang Su asked Lu Han.
"His parents said he attended school off and on for a while, but his illness makes it so he can’t stay at school for long periods. His grandfather was an elementary school teacher before he retired, and he mainly teaches Tongtong reading and math," Lu Han explained.
"Really? Does he have a school record then?"
"Sister Tangtang, I do. Every term, I go back to school for exams," Tongtong quickly replied.
"How do you do in your exams?" asked Tang Su, who knew she shouldn’t inquire about a child’s grades, yet she couldn’t help herself; after asking, she berated herself internally.
She hated being asked about her grades when she was young, and now here she was doing the very thing she disliked as a child.
Even though at this moment, she simply wanted to show concern for Tongtong.
"Not bad; I always get over eighty percent. My teacher says that with these scores, I am doing very well," Tongtong said with a smile, brimming with confidence.
Tang Su heaped on the praise, nearly sending the little guy over the moon with compliments.
"When was the last time you went to an amusement park, Tongtong?" Tang Su asked.
Tongtong thought for a moment then shook his head. "I don’t remember. I think I’ve never been. But it’s not that Mom and Dad didn’t want to take me; back then, I couldn’t even sit in a bumper car."
"So, what about now? Lu Han, it doesn’t seem right for us to take Tongtong to an amusement park, does it?" Tang Su asked with concern.
"It’s okay. He can’t go on the thrilling rides, but he can ride the little train, the sky bike, and we can go boating," explained Lu Han with a smile. He suggested going to the amusement park with Tongtong only after considering everything.
"Then today let’s try all the rides that Tongtong can go on. Sister Tangtang hasn’t been to the amusement park for a long time. Today, I get to take advantage of being with Tongtong; there are many rides I can’t go on, but I can accompany Tongtong on them. Is that okay?"
"Okay." Tongtong was instantly overjoyed.
After parking the car, Lu Han went to buy tickets.
They got the kind of package deal that lets you choose ten activities. Since there were limited rides Tongtong could go on, managing to pick ten was quite good already.
"Doctor Lu, for today’s expenses, when Tongtong grows up and starts earning money, I will repay you." Tongtong said sensibly when Lu Han came back with the tickets.
"No need, just make sure Sister Tangtang is smiling all day, and that’s like working to pay me back. Okay?" Lu Han patted Tongtong’s little head.
"Okay, Tongtong will play the clown to make Sister Tangtang happy."
Tang Su: "..."
The three of them, like a family of three, played everything from the train at the entrance to the boating on the artificial lake at the end. They made use of all ten activities the package allowed, and Lu Han had Tongtong play all of them.
Some activities could be played more than once. For example, Tongtong played the shooting game twice. Such activities are not usually allowed at home.
Mainly because there was no money; the hard-earned money from his parents all went to his medical treatment, and his grandparents’ pensions were for everyday expenses—the family was in quite a difficult situation.
The aged community they were living in was allocated to his grandma by her old unit, and grandpa also had an apartment allocated by his school, which could only be rented out, not sold.
The allocated apartment was not very big, a one-bedroom with a living room, and the rent was not high. It was just a drop in the bucket compared to Tongtong’s high medical costs.
Yet even so, from the beginning of the surgery to discharge, the family never thought of using any platform to raise funds.
Even towards Lu Han’s initiative to donate, the family still refused.
Unlike some people who just got admitted to the hospital and began asking around about how to fundraise online.
The reason trust is so lacking between people is actually because some spoil it for the rest, which prevents those who genuinely need help from getting it.
Those who aren’t very poor manage to live comfortably by exploiting various loopholes.
They even take those kind donors for fools, silently mocking them.
The malice in human hearts.
When they came out of the artificial lake, it was already two o’clock in the afternoon.
Tang Su had some small snacks like little bread and yogurt packed in her bag, and before eating a proper meal, the three of them filled up on these.
Once on shore, as Tongtong saw other kids clamoring for burgers, fries, pizza, and the like, he did not fuss. It was not that he didn’t want to eat those, but he knew he couldn’t eat them at the moment.
"How about beef noodles for lunch?" Lu Han suggested.
"Mhm," Tongtong nodded.
Tang Su knew Tongtong was tempted, and he surely wanted to enjoy burgers and fries like the other kids, but she was more aware that those things would not help Tongtong’s condition—in fact, they would exacerbate it.
Even if Tang Su was soft-hearted and felt sorry for Tongtong, she would not do anything to harm him.
"When Tongtong is better, Sister Tangtang will treat him to burgers, fries, and pizza once a week. This promise can be extended until Tongtong turns twenty-five, after graduating from college."
"Thank you, Sister Tangtang, but Tongtong won’t eat those things."
"Tongtong is so good." Tang Su gave him a thumbs up.
Lu Han took them to a noodle shop in the park where, to taste different flavors, the three of them ordered completely different dishes. Tang Su chose spare rib noodles, Lu Han picked giblet noodles, and ordered for Tongtong the signature dish of the shop—beef noodles.
