Chapter 237: 206 The Benchmark of Happiness (1st Update)_1

Upon hearing that Tang Feng was in the military, the taxi driver immediately treated him with great respect.

Most men seem to have an indescribable passion for military service, and they started a conversation on the topic of being a soldier.

After a long time, Tang Su was finally remembered by her grandparents.

Grandma Tang was still thinking about how her granddaughter had enjoyed the corn pancakes from the neighbor’s house the last time she visited, and knowing the girl had a sweet tooth, Grandma Tang had made a special trip to the neighbor’s house yesterday to buy some semi-finished pancakes.

Now they were frozen in the fridge.

Given the weather wasn’t very warm, they would just add some ice packs and take them back to the city later, which would be perfect.

Actually, Tang Su had only mentioned it casually last time, partly because it had been so long since she had eaten them, and partly because she might have been hungry at the moment—she did eat quite a few that day.

But she had no idea that her grandmother had taken it to heart.

"Thank you, Grandma," Tang Su said, hugging her grandmother with a smile.

When Tang Shenghua, the second eldest of the Tang family in the orchard, heard that his younger brother was coming with his children, he immediately rushed back from the orchard.

"Second Brother."

"Uncle,"

All three called out in unison.

"Ah, did Fengfeng grow taller again? Weren’t you supposed to arrive in the evening?" Tang Shenghua asked as he walked over.

Tang Shenghua, a down-to-earth farmer, did not embrace Tang Feng, and though his manner seemed calm, inside he was truly happy to see his nephew back from military service.

It’s just that his body language wasn’t very expressive.

"We hitched a ride with their leader’s car and arrived last night; they didn’t tell us, and we only got home this morning. When we got home, he cooked a delicious meal for the whole family," said Tang Shengyi, his face beaming with pride.

"That’s because Fengfeng is so filial. You’re lucky to have raised such a good son, Shengyi, and you should be openly joyous," the elder Mr. Tang hastened to praise his grandson.

"Dad, of course I am happy, and I won’t hide it—I will openly celebrate," boasted Tang Shengyi with pride.

"This Shengyi has never been the serious type," Grandma Tang said, pointing at him with a smile of resignation.

"It’s about time we got ready to leave. Second Brother, are you and your wife coming too?" Tang Shengyi asked Tang Shenghua.

"No, we won’t be headed to the city today. Your sister-in-law is teaching a graduating class this year, and she doesn’t finish until around nine or ten at night. I need to go pick her up later, and I still have to cook dinner for her to eat when she gets back," Tang Shenghua replied.

"Alright then, I won’t insist. What about Siyuan and Mingze?"

"Them? Don’t worry about it—they’ve gone to their in-laws with their wives and kids to freeload some food and drink."

"Okay then, when our family comes back from Beijing, let’s have a Tang Family reunion," said Tang Shengyi.

"No problem. By then, the eldest sister’s family will be here too. It’s just that the fourth brother’s family definitely won’t be able to come back until Chinese New Year," said Tang Shenghua.

"By Chinese New Year, Fengfeng probably will have to leave again," mused Tang Shengyi.

It’s really not easy to gather the whole family once grown children have their own lives.

"No need to wait for Chinese New Year. I called the fourth brother; once the family photo at their grandmother’s place is finished, our family will take one as well," said Tang Shengyi.

"That’s great, our family is blessed with four generations under one roof—it’s about time for a photo."

"Alright, we’re off then, Second Brother."

"Sure. Oh, and here are some fruits from the orchard, take some back for Ru’an," said Tang Shenghua.

"Alright, then I won’t stand on ceremony with you."

"Why should you be formal between brothers?"

Ten minutes later, Tang Shenghua saw them off to their car, "Give my regards to your sister-in-law. Mom and Dad, I’ll come to pick you up tomorrow morning."

"Alright."

On the way back to Beijing, Tang Feng was temporarily left behind again as Grandma Tang started to express her concerns about Tang Su’s personal life and pushed for marriage.

"Su Su, how are things with Xiaoye? When are you planning to register your marriage? Haven’t the parents already met?" Grandma Tang didn’t know about Lu Han; she only knew about Ye Sichen.

The matchmaker was none other than Fengfeng. Grandma Tang felt the match was absolutely reliable and was eagerly looking forward to drinking her granddaughter’s wedding wine. She and Grandpa Tang had already prepared the wedding gift money.

"Mom, it’s not Xiaoye anymore; it’s Xiaolu now, a doctor, just like Ruoruo, both specializing in otolaryngology. Moreover, while Ruoruo became a director in her forties, this Xiaolu became one before thirty," Tang Shengyi said, very satisfied with his prospective son-in-law’s tone.

"Hm? Xiaolu? So, does that mean she broke up with Xiaoye?" Grandpa Tang, sitting in the passenger seat, turned around and asked.

Being a director only shows outstanding work capability and achievements, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be good to his wife. Grandpa Tang was old but his mind was still sharp.

When looking for a grandson-in-law, it was certainly important to consider external conditions, but the most crucial part was his inner qualities, like his character, whether he was nice to his girlfriend, and if he was considerate enough.

These were the benchmarks for Tang Su’s happiness after marriage.

"Isn’t that precisely why they broke up? Xiaoye and Tangtang were not suitable. That’s how it is with young people and love – if they don’t feel it’s right, it’s natural to part ways. What’s worse is realizing they’re not compatible after getting married, right?"

"So, if this Xiaolu became a director at such a young age, that means he must be very capable at work. But won’t he be too busy after marriage? I hope he doesn’t neglect our Su Su for his job, leaving her alone at home," Grandma Tang said with concern.

At that moment, no one anticipated that Grandma Tang’s words would turn out to be prophetic. After her marriage, Tang Su indeed spent some time living like a widow.

"Grandma, you are thinking too far ahead for something that isn’t even certain yet," Tang Feng interjected at the right moment.

"Fengfeng, what do you mean by that? Don’t you like Xiaolu?" Grandpa Tang, who was quick to respond, asked his grandson.

Tang Su also looked at her elder brother, eager to see why he didn’t like Lu Han.

Lu Han was such a good man; the Emperor and Empress had no objections, so what could this Crown Prince possibly object to?

"It’s not that, Grandpa. They’ve only just got together. They need some time to get to know each other better. Isn’t that right?" Tang Feng explained with a smile.

"Yes, that’s true. Su Su, your brother is right," Grandma Tang agreed.

"I understand, Grandpa," Tang Su said, pouting and unhappy.

Seeing his daughter a little aggrieved, Tang Shengyi couldn’t help but speak up, "Later, Xiaolu will join us for dinner. Mom and Dad, you can see for yourselves then whether Xiaolu is good or not."

"Is that so? Well, that’s great. If this child is good and Su Su really likes him, then we should hurry up and help them sort things out. Su Su is twenty-four this year. If she gets married next year, having kids would only happen the year after."

Grandma Tang was extremely eager.

In fact, she already had great-grandsons and great-granddaughters, fulfilling her wish for a four-generation family two years ago. However, it was different when it came to Tang Su’s own children.

As the elders, of course, they hoped that each child would do well, with a smooth and orderly life.

No grand ambitions were sought – just that the family line would continue, generation after generation.

"Mom, don’t worry. My wife and I know what we’re doing," Tang Shengyi reassured.
