Chapter 831: Chapter 831: The Black Store is Attacked

The young waiter downstairs was still very enthusiastic toward Nan Feng, "Lady, are you awake? Would you like something to eat?"

"What do you have?" Nan Feng asked as usual.

"We only have steamed buns and plain congee. Please take a seat, Lady. I’ll go get it for you," the waiter said before heading to the kitchen.

But Nan Feng faced a dilemma again. She didn’t know if that group from yesterday didn’t sleep or what, but now they had occupied all the tables as usual, merely switching from last night’s dinner to this morning’s breakfast.

So Nan Feng had no place to sit.

The man who led the group last night beckoned Nan Feng over, "Little lady, come, sit here."

Nan Feng smiled, "No need, thank you."

"Lady, where are you heading alone? To meet a lover or running away from a marriage?" the leader asked again.

Nan Feng smiled without answering; just then, the young waiter came out again. He looked at Nan Feng, "Come on, Lady, try the breakfast I’ve made."

As usual, Nan Feng took out a silver needle to test the food. The waiter immediately looked aggrieved, "Lady, I gave you free food, drinks, and a place to stay, and you still don’t trust me?"

"I’m sorry," said Nan Feng with a smile. She didn’t explain; just smiled and said, "It’s a habit."

The waiter: "..."

There was no poison, nor any knockout drugs, so Nan Feng ate with peace of mind.

The congee was fine, but the steamed buns were tough as rocks. After a few bites without success, Nan Feng put them back on the counter untouched, "Waiter, I’m full. If you don’t have small change to give me back, then I’ll be going. I promise to pay you back next time I’m here."

"Alright then, but you better remember," the waiter had no objections.

However, as soon as Nan Feng led her horse outside, that group from inside followed her out.

And only this morning, Nan Feng realized that this bunch was not up to any good. They hadn’t made a move last night only because they were in the Inn and didn’t want to cause unnecessary trouble.

They hadn’t attacked her last night, but instead, they had sabotaged her horse. She hadn’t gone far when it began to slump. Walking unsteadily, it suddenly knelt down, almost causing Nan Feng to take a nasty fall.

Indeed, Jianghu was fraught with peril. A lady traveling alone, without some self-defense skills, would find it incredibly hard to get by.

"Little sister, what’s wrong with your horse?" The bunch gradually closed in from a distance and quickly stood before Nan Feng.

Nan Feng looked at the horse and then at the people in front of her; the horse couldn’t get up for the time being. It was obviously in pain, but these were the people she had to deal with now.

She patted the horse, "Brother Ma, wait here for a little while. After I deal with these people, I’ll come to you."

Standing up, Nan Feng addressed the group, "My horse must have eaten something, right? Now, speak up, what do you want to do? Robbery?"

The leader of the men said, "That’s right, robbery. In fact, we could do more than just rob. We could also take you, sell you to a brothel. You’d fetch a good price, but we pity you and don’t want to trouble you. Just hand over whatever banknotes you have, and we’re good."

"I cannot give you the banknotes," said Nan Feng while picking up a stick from the side of the road, "As for the nonsense, I don’t want to say more. If you’re set on having the silver, then let’s have a fight. If you beat me, the banknotes are yours."

"A fight?" The man looked at his accomplices around him, and they all started laughing. A girl against thirty or forty men—this was utterly preposterous.
