Chapter 362: Chapter 363 Really Bad_1
Nan Feng’s face instantly turned red, "We’re not officially married yet, isn’t it too soon to be addressing me like this?"
"How about this? I’ll only use this term when we are alone, and call you by your name when there are others around," Ye Ge suggested with a smile.
"What if I can’t get used to the change?"
"Then don’t change."
"..." Nan Feng leaned on his shoulder, and then playfully jabbed his chest with her finger, "You’re so naughty!"
This was clearly teasing.
Ye Ge suddenly tightened the reins, bringing the horse to a sudden halt.
This action scared Nan Feng who thought that her teasing had gotten Ye Ge worked up. She was afraid of what he might do to her next, perhaps even give her a jolt from the horse.
However, Ye Ge only hugged Nan Feng and said, "Wait for me in the carriage, I’ll go check something over there."
After jumping down from the carriage, Ye Ge went directly towards a group of people by the roadside.
Earlier, Nan Feng was too engrossed in her conversation with Ye Ge to notice these people. But now upon closer inspection, she realized that these people were crying by the roadside.
Ye Ge approached these people, asking, "What happened to you? Why are you crying like this by the roadside?"
At first, they didn’t respond and just continued crying.
Ye Ge asked again, and finally, a boy who seemed to be about thirteen or fourteen years old said, "My sister was taken away by bad guys."
The boy’s accent was slightly off, suggesting he was from the north.
After the boy spoke, a woman in her thirties sobbed out, "We just escaped from the north to this unfamiliar place and were noticed by the bad guys as soon as we arrived. They didn’t rob us of our money, but they took away my fifteen-year-old daughter. My poor girl, who has followed us all this way, enduring hardship, was about to see the end of it when...oh God, do you plan to leave us any way to survive?"
After the woman finished speaking, another middle-aged man and an old man began to cry again.
No doubt, leaving home was already devastating, but now having their daughter taken after barely escaping was heartbreaking.
Ye Ge revealed he was a guard from the county office and asked them to describe the culprits.
"They were all masked, wearing black clothes, and their faces were invisible. They threatened us not to move, with knives in hand. We didn’t dare to move, and they took away my daughter," the woman explained.
The middle-aged man cried out, "Yes, we sold all the valuable things from home when we escaped. We have a little bit of silver left, but they didn’t want it, they just wanted our daughter."
No interest in money, only in kidnapping girls?
Though Nan Feng remained in the carriage, she heard their conversation clearly.
"Then, do you have a place to stay now?" Ye Ge asked next.
They all shook their heads and the woman said, "We have no home now, and we’ve lost our daughter. We see no hope in living, and it doesn’t matter where we stay."
Consequently, Ye Ge decided to take them to the mansion Lord Song prepared for refugees, and helped them onto the carriage.
With the carriage full, Nan Feng moved next to Ye Ge. Ye Ge whispered an apology into her ear, but she shook her head, indicating that she didn’t mind at all.
Nan Feng understood Ye Ge’s actions. His icy exterior masked a kind heart. He couldn’t stand by when people were in trouble.
After getting off the carriage, Ye Ge gave the refugees what he had received from Uncle Zhou. After all, without a pot in his room, he couldn’t cook anyway.
Nan Feng, seeing this, also donated most of her stuff, only keeping her favorite sweet potatoes.
