Chapter 244: Chapter 245 Thank you for cooking for me (Second Update)_1
Nan Quanyou was half puzzled, but seeing Nan Feng so happy, he couldn’t help but chuckle, "You’ve always been the resourceful one. If you enjoy doing these things, then go ahead. I won’t be of much help to you, as long as I’m not holding you back. Besides, opening a store and procurement must require a significant amount of money and I wouldn’t be able to fund you."
"No need, I’ve been saving money from selling herbs and hunting, but I’ve spent most of it now. It all depends on whether the store can make a profit. Dad, once I make more money, I plan to build a big house for you," Nan Feng answered confidently, looking energetic despite having worked all day.
Nan Quanyou smiled, "Let’s eat first. You’ve been working this long, it’s time for dinner."
"Alright, Dad, I’ll go and cook!" Nan Feng said.
Just as she was about to turn around, Nan Quanyou stopped her, "Ah, Feng, the meal has already been prepared. You can simply grab a bowl and eat."
"Prepared?" Nan Feng asked in surprise, "Who cooked it?"
Nan Quanyou’s leg hadn’t fully recovered yet.
"It was Lin Qiaoyun, from the house opposite us, the mother of Fu," Nan Quanyou replied.
"Fu’s mother came over to cook our dinner?" Nan Feng was amazed.
"Yes, she came over after she finished her work in the evening. Seeing me sitting alone, she offered to cook when I told her I hadn’t eaten yet. She insisted on helping, saying she didn’t know when you’d return. I did give her a couple of dried fish though. Judging by her reaction, it seems she likes them, and Fu kept asking for more."
Nan Feng looked at Nan Quanyou and thought to herself that her dad was too naive. It wasn’t for the dried fish that Lin Qiaoyun came to cook, she was a widow, she must have had other reasons.
...
The next morning, as Nan Feng stepped out, Lin Qiaoyun also came out from her house. Nan Feng greeted her.
Lin Qiaoyun seemed somewhat shy. In her mid-thirties, she had fair skin. It was said that she worked as a laundress for a local landlord, which showed on her hands where the skin was peeling off in some areas.
"Auntie Yun, thank you for cooking for my dad yesterday," Nan Feng said sincerely while sizing her up.
"No need to thank me. We’re all neighbors. Besides, your dad was cooped up alone at home, and I had to go to work during the day. With no one to look after Fu, your dad could help keep an eye on him for a while," spoke Lin Qiaoyun, her eyes darting away shyly.
Clearly, her objective was not solely based on having someone to look after Fu.
Nan Feng responded warmly, "No problem. My dad is bored anyway. If there’s no one to look after Fu, just bring him over to my dad’s place. My dad can play with him."
"Well... I really can’t thank you enough for that. Here’s what, if I get off work early in the evening, I’ll continue cooking for your dad. We are doing nothing more than adding a log to our fireplace and you two surely can’t eat much."
"That’s perfect, I was worried about who would cook for my dad. If you could help, that’d be great," Nan Feng responded, a plan forming inside her head.
...
Nan Feng leisurely bought breakfast for Nan Quanyou and stopped by to check on Fu. She happened to catch Fu just as he woke up, rubbing his eyes and yawning. She then gave him a couple of sesame seed cakes.
Fu looked at Nan Feng, initially puzzled, but burst into a bright smile upon seeing the sesame seed cakes. He took them tentatively, then meekly said, "Thank you, sister."
Nan Feng winked at him, "Good, call me sister."
"..." Fu was befuddled again, if not sister, should he call her brother?
