Chapter 1351: Chapter 1173: Xiao’ai, Dabao, Xiaobei

Shagen nodded, and Axiang smiled, "Do you understand? Then can you repeat exactly what I said?"

Shagen was not a man of many words even on a normal day, and his ability to express himself was lacking; although he felt some understanding, it was impossible for him to repeat Axiang’s words.

So all he could do was smile and then continued to pick another piece of egg for Axiang’s bowl.

Axiang laughed and said, "Never mind, being able to share my thoughts with you is enough, it makes me happy just to have someone listen, and I feel much better now."

After hearing this, Shagen smiled happily.

...

The rain had been pouring down all day, only stopping when dusk fell.

Axiang’s clothes had been dried by the firewood Shagen had burned, so she changed back into the dry clothes.

The clothes, still warm from the heat of the fire, made her feel cozy, and thus her mood improved.

She began to say goodbye to Shagen, who was still in the kitchen, seemingly preparing dinner.

"Shagen, I’m going to head back," Axiang said.

However, as soon as the words left her mouth, Shagen seemed to be struck hard by something; he stood up somewhat bewildered, "Sister, stay here."

"You mean, let me live in your house?" Axiang smiled, touched though she was, but it just didn’t make sense, and she replied, "That’s not right, I’ve already imposed on you for too long, and if I continue staying, the villagers will start gossiping."

"Sister, don’t mind their gossip," Shagen merely held Axiang’s hand, "Sister isn’t happy anywhere else, she is the happiest here with Shagen, so from now on, live together with Shagen."

"..." Axiang was somewhat shocked.

He had actually understood those words.

"But... this isn’t my home, after all, and besides, you’re not married yet. If I keep staying here, how will you ever get married?" Axiang asked.

But Shagen kept looking at Axiang, his tone very determined, "Then I’ll marry sister, and make sister my wife."

"..." A tremor ran through Axiang’s heart; but after the shock, she found it amusing, "Shagen, do you know what a wife is?"

"Wife... is someone who sews clothes for me, and also cooks with me," Shagen said earnestly. With his handsome looks, and now gazing so intently at Axiang, she involuntarily felt her heart skip a beat.

No, she must not let herself be easily moved.

"Shagen, being a wife isn’t that simple. Marrying a wife is a lifelong matter. If you marry a wife, you can’t be kind to other ladies in the future. Right now, it’s just novelty," Axiang said.

"Then I will just be kind to sister for a lifetime," Shagen still said seriously.

"Shagen, that... you don’t understand. Don’t think about this anymore, I have to go back," Axiang said, and after speaking, she hurriedly left the kitchen.

Yet, when her hands touched the handrails of the front door, for some reason, she looked back.

Shagen stood dumbly at the doorway, gazing longingly at Axiang as if he were a child watching his mother leave.

It seemed he had been alone for too long and very much longed for someone to keep him company.

For some reason, Axiang suddenly felt a softness in her heart.

But softness aside, she had to go back. What was she thinking?

"Shagen, don’t come out anymore. Go back inside. I... I’ll come to see you another time," Axiang steeled her heart, then pulled open the door and went out.

But just as she left the house, she saw a person hurrying toward her, bumping into Axiang. She took a closer look and realized it was none other than Widow Chen.
