Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Sharp Tongue

"So?" Lin Yue’s voice was slightly cold.

Shen Jingrou was at a loss for words.

Just because someone else is interested in him, does that mean he has to start a relationship with them? To hide her absurd thoughts, she reached out, picked up a small piece of watermelon, and popped it into her mouth.

Then, she changed the subject, "Has Mom been pushing you to go on blind dates again recently?"

"Shen Jingrou, you just like to hit me where it hurts, don’t you?"

Several empty wine glasses were placed on the table, indicating that Lin Yue had drunk quite a bit, but his complexion showed no signs of change.

"No, we’re just casually chatting," Shen Jingrou said, lacking confidence.

Thinking about how he had encountered setbacks in his career and yet she deliberately brought up a subject he disliked, Shen Jingrou felt she was indeed being too much. However, she had gotten used to being stubborn in front of Lin Yue.

"If there’s anything else you want to say, just say it all at once and see if you can anger me to death." Lin Yue put down the wine glass and looked at her seriously, wanting to see what else could come out of her mouth.

The man’s serious demeanor caught Shen Jingrou off guard.

"Am I really that sharp-tongued?" Shen Jingrou muttered awkwardly.

Lin Yue’s face was filled with "What do you think?"

Seeing the expression on Lin Yue’s face, the two exchanged a knowing smile, as if they were back to their youthful days. He had one arm over her shoulder, his face brimming with an unrestrained smile, while she held a newly won toy from the arcade. This was the result of their day-long battle at the amusement park.

On stage, Huang Yiyi was passionately singing "Because of Love." Each lyric coming from her mouth was accompanied by an involuntary, wistful gaze towards Lin Yue, until she saw the man constantly talking with the woman opposite him. Huang Yiyi suppressed her disappointment and persevered in finishing the song.

After saying goodbye to Ms. An, An Yin returned to school early in the morning.

She had already had breakfast at the hotel.

Arriving a bit early, she went directly back to the dormitory, just as Shi Qing was about to leave.

"You’re back." Shi Qing adjusted her thick glasses.

"Yeah, my mom visited yesterday, so I stayed out with her for the night." An Yin explained why she hadn’t stayed in the dorm the previous night.

"Oh, I’m leaving then." Shi Qing responded flatly, not asking further.

Especially when it came to topics like "mom," she was particularly silent.

An Yin stepped aside, letting Shi Qing pass first.

As Shi Qing left, she stepped inside and closed the door behind her.

She placed her belongings on the desk, which included leftover snacks from the previous night and an open pack of sanitary pads.

Picking one up, she headed straight to the bathroom.

After dawdling inside for quite a while, she finally emerged and headed towards the classroom.

The matter Ms. An mentioned last night had been weighing on An Yin’s mind.

Jiang Keke was always right on time, arriving just a few minutes before class.

Before Jiang Keke had even settled down, An Yin approached her, "When I met with Ms. An this time, she asked about that peace-preserving jade." An Yin wasn’t one to be stingy, but Ms. An seemed to value it quite a bit, prompting An Yin to actively ask Jiang Keke about it.

After placing An Yin’s backpack on the table, Jiang Keke went blank for a moment.

Jade?

What jade?

After pondering for a few seconds, she remembered that she did borrow a piece of jade from An Yin. At the time, she thought it looked pretty good when she wore it. Later, she went out for a meal with Bao Cheng, which was when she first met Zeng Yun, who Bao Cheng claimed was his cousin. Thinking about it, Jiang Keke found herself quite laughable. Later, when she returned to her apartment, she found the jade was missing but didn’t give it much thought, quickly forgetting the matter. In her eyes, it was just a cheap piece of jade, the kind you see everywhere on the street.

Now that An Yin brought up the subject, Jiang Keke felt quite embarrassed.

"I left it at Bao Cheng’s apartment, I’ll go look for it tonight," Jiang Keke lied subconsciously.

By the time she spoke, it was too late.

An Yin was of a gentle and soft temperament. If Jiang Keke had told her the truth, she was sure An Yin would not blame her.

Oh well, since it was lost, she’d just go buy a similar piece to give back to her. With that thought, Jiang Keke felt her mood lighten considerably.

"Okay." An Yin nodded.

The class bell rang, and everyone quickly took out their books.

Outside the classroom, thick clouds loomed, and soon the pitter-patter of rain could be heard through the windows, wrapping the air with a somber atmosphere.

After a whole day of classes, everyone was exhausted.

After school, Jiang Keke didn’t return to the dormitory.

An Yin first went to the canteen for dinner. After returning to the dormitory, she placed her backpack on the desk, with the words Ms. An had said yesterday echoing in her mind.

The family bookstore had closed. These years, aside from managing the bookstore, Ms. An had no other skills. Based on her understanding of Ms. An, she was bound to find a job.

An Yin’s face showed a trace of concern. If only she could graduate already and earn money to support Ms. An.

An Yin listlessly lay over her desk, suddenly having a flash of inspiration: perhaps she could try promoting drinks in private boxes like Shi Qing, to earn more money?

Although it sounded daunting, she could give it a try.

With that decision made, An Yin felt as if she had summoned a great resolve, her eyes filled with unwavering determination.

Just then, Shi Qing pushed the door open and came in.

An Yin quickly stood up, "Shi Qing, I want to tell you something."

Seeing her excitedly coming over, Shi Qing closed the door and looked at her in surprise, "What is it?" Perhaps sensing her intense excitement, Shi Qing was momentarily stunned.

"I want to be like you and promote drinks in private boxes." An Yin blinked with her bright and clear eyes, her gaze pure and unblemished, like an ethereal fairy from beyond the mortal realm. When these words came out of her mouth, it gave the impression of her wanting to play make-believe.

Upon hearing this, Shi Qing didn’t respond immediately. Her brows gradually furrowed as she habitually adjusted her black glasses, speaking with a serious tone, "Are you very short of money?"

Aside from that, Shi Qing couldn’t think of another reason.

"Yes." An Yin replied candidly. In her eyes, lacking money wasn’t something to be embarrassed about. "My family originally ran a bookstore, but it hasn’t been profitable these years. Yesterday my mom said the bookstore had closed, and I don’t want mom to bear the burden of supporting the family alone." An Yin expressed all the worries in her heart, appearing both frustrated and somber.

Shi Qing quietly listened until the end, her mind suddenly thinking of that man named "Bao Shaojin." She was sure if An Yin shared these troubles with him, that man would surely...

Shi Qing dismissed the notion.

If An Yin truly wanted to rely on him, she wouldn’t be so eager to find ways to earn more money, evidently indicating that in An Yin’s heart, that man wasn’t someone she felt intimately close to.
