Chapter 236 It’s Me
Chapter 236: Chapter 236 It’s Me
In winter, it gets dark earlier.
Shi Qing packed up her books, thinking about going to her part-time job. She looked at An Yin’s bed and finally asked, "An Yin, do you need me to call in sick for you today?"
"Okay." An Yin’s weak voice came from the covers.
With her affirmative response, Shi Qing turned to leave. She checked her phone; Jiang Keke had been gone for over an hour. Logically, the pharmacy from here to the school wasn’t far—could it be that Jiang Keke went the long way to somewhere off campus?
That doesn’t make sense. Even if she went off campus to buy it, she should’ve been back by now.
Shi Qing sighed helplessly, looking at the medicine on the desk. She held it in her palm and walked over to An Yin’s bedside.
"An Yin, I’ll leave the medicine here." Shi Qing placed the box of medicine beside An Yin’s pillow, then grabbed the water cup from An Yin’s desk and carefully placed it next to the medicine box, "I’m leaving now."
With that, she stepped out.
"Shi Qing, thank you."
An Yin’s muffled voice came from behind Shi Qing. After pausing her steps for a moment, Shi Qing walked towards the door and, after closing the dorm room door, An Yin’s weak appearance lingered in her mind.
Shi Qing took out her phone from her pocket, scrolled through her contacts to find Wen Mei’s number.
"Beep beep beep..."
"Unexpected guest, anything you need from me?" Wen Mei’s lazy voice came through.
"An Yin and I are calling in sick today." Shi Qing stated the reason for her call directly.
Wen Mei hesitated for a moment and asked, "If you guys have any trouble, just tell me. Maybe I can help!"
"No need." Shi Qing countered, "That’s all, bye!"
"Beep beep beep..."
The call ended abruptly, leaving Wen Mei holding the phone, lost in thought—such a temperamental girl!
Afterwards, Shi Qing unlocked and reopened the dorm room door.
Even she hadn’t expected that one day she’d also consider others.
Unlock, push open the door, then close it—a seamless sequence of actions.
An Yin heard sighing noises from the entrance; she didn’t peek, cautiously saying, "Keke, the pain was unbearable, and I just took the medicine."
"It’s me." Shi Qing, hearing her, paused for a moment before speaking up.
For some reason, when she heard Shi Qing’s voice, An Yin’s tense little heart instantly calmed down. She was afraid Jiang Keke would have another tantrum upon finding out she took the medicine Shi Qing gave her.
"Why did you come back?" Perhaps because she took the medicine, An Yin looked noticeably better.
Shi Qing awkwardly returned to her desk, "I realized I had some assignments to finish." Shi Qing rarely lied; when talking to people, she was always straightforward and didn’t like to beat around the bush.
But facing An Yin, she blurted out a lie, thinking that An Yin was sensitive by nature, and she had no choice but to say it to prevent her from feeling guilty.
As expected, An Yin believed her words without any suspicion. After all, being an academic star, her dedication to studies was something someone like An Yin, with her academic struggles, couldn’t compare to.
An Yin slowly sat up, picked up her water cup, and took a small sip.
The box of medicine Shi Qing gave still had a lot left. After some thought, An Yin said, "I’ll keep this box of medicine here first, and I’ll repay you when I get some."
Shi Qing originally wanted to say it wasn’t necessary, but she was afraid An Yin might feel unsettled, "Okay."
"Did you tell Sister Mei at work?"
"I did."
Following that, silence filled the dorm room.
Shi Qing buried herself at the desk, and the faint sound of a pen scratching across paper could be heard.
An Yin, after drinking the water, found her stomach’s pain significantly lessened. She occasionally glanced at the dorm room door until darkness fell, and her stomach gurgled, "Grumble... grumble..."
She glanced at the time on her phone.
It was nine o’clock in the evening.
"Do you want to eat?"
While An Yin rolled back and forth, Shi Qing’s voice sounded in her ear, and she turned her head to see Shi Qing offering something, her eyes lighting up.
Baguette!
An Yin sat up and naturally took it, "I’ll eat it, thanks!"
Shi Qing looked back at her.
Instantly, both of their faces showed a perfectly synchronized smile.
This scene had happened before!
This was the second time Shi Qing had offered her a baguette to eat.
An Yin tore open the bag, took out the slightly hard bread, and began to eat it. Initially, while chewing, it was dry and hard to swallow, but after a few bites, a sweetness spread in her mouth.
An Yin ate happily.
She quickly finished what she had, and Shi Qing took out another from her bookshelf.
An Yin accepted it boldly, recalling the scene she had previously noticed, and in apprehension, looked at her, "I really apologize for Keke’s attitude towards you before."
"This is not your fault. You shouldn’t have to apologize for it." Shi Qing said solemnly when the matter was brought up.
"If it weren’t for my stomachache, she wouldn’t have acted like that." An Yin said quietly.
"An Yin, don’t take others’ mistakes onto yourself."
An Yin lowered her head, with only a small piece of baguette left in her hand. She tore off a piece and slowly put it in her mouth. She wasn’t ignorant; she had observed Jiang Keke’s changes over this period.
The once innocent, lively Jiang Keke had become hard for An Yin to understand.
Even confronting Bao Cheng’s unfaithfulness, she could choose to endure it. Even sitting at the same table as Bao Cheng’s affair partner, she could interact calmly; this was completely beyond An Yin’s expectations.
Thanks to Ms. An’s bookstore, An Yin had read many books since she was young, witnessing numerous great figures lamenting that people change...
However, An Yin couldn’t quite accept that those closest to her would change!
Seeing An Yin deep in thought, Shi Qing didn’t interrupt, as she went to the bathroom to wash up and prepared to sleep.
An Yin finished the baguette and dragged her exhausted body to the bathroom. After taking a hot shower, she felt somewhat refreshed.
Upon coming out, Shi Qing, lying on the bed, said, "You had a call on your phone just now."
"Oh."
Upon hearing that, An Yin quickly stepped forward, picked up her phone from beside the pillow, glanced at it, saw a missed call from Jiang Keke, and immediately called back.
"Yinyin, I won’t be coming back tonight." Jiang Keke said over the phone, her tone a bit guilty.
An Yin’s eyes darkened slightly, "Okay."
"Are you feeling better?" Jiang Keke stammered, clearly feeling a bit guilty.
"Much better, don’t worry." An Yin murmured.
"That’s good!" Jiang Keke breathed a sigh of relief, then began to explain, "I originally left the dorm to buy medicine, but when I passed the teaching building, I was seen by some students practicing dance. They said there were some flaws in the dance and pulled me over to make some adjustments, which delayed the medicine buying. Yinyin, I’m sorry!"
Jiang Keke’s tone carried a hint of grievance.
"Keke, don’t overthink it, I don’t blame you." An Yin frowned slightly with a look of melancholy in her eyes.
