Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King -
Chapter 19: Danger, Third Tier Magic — Thunder Strike
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The heavy footsteps of two ogres shook the ground as they charged forward.
Captain Dosali retreated while quickly issuing orders.
"Ler, Rand, you two go block the one on the left. Drag it out while conserving your strength as much as possible."
"Baske! We'll deal with this one. Prioritize attacking its eyes and throat."
Captain Dosali shouted loudly.
"Got it, Captain!"
"No problem!"
Ler and Rand responded in unison, raising their shields as they charged toward the ogre on the left.
"I’ll provide cover." Baske pulled back his bowstring and aimed at the right-side ogre’s eyes.Whoosh!
The arrow shot out.
The ogre on the right immediately raised its broad, rough palm to block its face.
Pfft—
The arrow pierced into the ogre’s palm but didn’t go through.
“Humans, food!”
The intense pain successfully drew the ogre’s attention. Furious, it yanked the arrow from its hand, threw it to the ground, and roared as it charged at archer Baske.
“Good.”
Captain Dosali nodded, but his expression was unusually grave.
With Baske’s level of skill, not even piercing the ogre’s palm showed how tough its skin and flesh really were.
Snap!
Captain Dosali’s retreat suddenly halted. He stomped hard on the ground, bent his knees, and crossed his twin swords, aiming at the charging ogre. “Accelerate!”
A pale blue light flashed across Captain Dosali’s body.
Immediately after, Captain Dosali surged forward with speed far exceeding what he had shown before, quickly appearing in front of the ogre.
At that very moment!
He swung his crossed twin swords heavily down onto the ogre’s chest.
Thud! Thud!
Two deep sword marks appeared!
However!
Despite such a heavy strike, only a little blood oozed out. Compared to the ogre’s massive body, it wasn’t even a serious injury.
“Ahh!!”
The ogre screamed in agonizing pain and slammed its thick fist down heavily toward Captain Dosali.
Boom!
Captain Dosali’s expression changed. He quickly raised his twin swords above his head to block.
But the heavy force still transmitted through the blades, numbing his arms and nearly causing him to lose grip on the swords.
At this critical moment!
“Double shot!” Archer Baske’s steady voice rang out, accompanied by two whooshing sounds.
The ogre, ready to press the advantage, suddenly felt darkness before its eyes, followed by an unusually intense pain spreading through its entire brain.
“Ahh!!”
The ogre clutched its now-blinded eyes and collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain uncontrollably.
Captain Dosali quickly retreated, putting distance between himself and the struggling ogre, finally letting out a slight breath of relief. “Thanks, Baske.”
“Now’s not the time for thanks. Take advantage of the ogre’s blindness and finish it off first.”
“The Rand brothers over there are barely holding on. This one’s skin really is tough — it didn’t die even after an arrow shot into its eye.”
Archer Baske spoke while muttering curses silently.
Tang Zheng looked at the attribute panel. The combat skills used by the "Rock" squad members were well-chosen, not wasting skill points.
These skills weren’t very strong.
“The difference between demi-humans and humans is really obvious.”
Tang Zheng observed the recent battle and thought quietly.
Ogres are a subspecies of ogre demons. Compared to ogre demons who have the “rapid recovery” talent, ogres at most only have thicker skin and flesh.
This talent, negligible in the game, combined with the size advantage in this other world, completely suppressed the entire “Rock” team.
At the same level, humans in the other world almost cannot defeat demi-humans and alien species!
It’s no wonder that before players arrived, humans in the other world were on the verge of extinction.
In the YGGDRASIL game, human players can gradually catch up with demi-human and alien racial advantages after building professions and reaching level 50.
But in the other world, humans can only level up to a maximum of around 40...
“Phew.” Captain Dosali exhaled, shook his slightly numb arms, and with sharp eyes approached the ogre writhing on the ground in intense pain.
He aimed for the ogre’s heart.
Captain Dosali raised the long sword in his left hand and stabbed it fiercely in.
Pfft!
The pale greenish-red blood sprayed out. The ogre’s violently twitching body stiffened as its thick arms went limp and slammed onto the ground.
Seeing one ogre defeated, everyone present breathed a little easier.
Captain Dosali lifted his head and looked toward the Rand brothers’ position, gripping his sword hilt tightly and preparing to go help.
However!
“Waahh—”
The ogre that should have died from a heart stab suddenly twitched. It then struggled and screamed loudly, raising its thick arm to grab at Captain Dosali.
Clearly a last-ditch counterattack before death!
The sudden change stunned everyone.
“Captain, dodge!!” Archer Baske shouted with a face drained of color.
The unexpected turn.
Even Captain Dosali reacted a beat late. He hadn’t expected that one sword strike to not kill the ogre, but as an adventurer, he was alert.
“Accelerate!”
Blue light flashed on Captain Dosali’s body, his speed suddenly increasing.
The ogre’s grab for Captain Dosali’s waist missed, but it grabbed his ankle instead and squeezed hard.
Crack!
“Ahhh!!!”
The sound of bones breaking and Captain Dosali’s scream rang out.
“Captain!”
Archer Baske’s face turned pale.
At the same time, Ler and Rand, who were fighting the other ogre, heard Captain Dosali’s scream and instinctively went blank for a moment.
Suddenly!
Their previously well-coordinated movements broke apart. By the time they reacted, it was already too late.
Boom!
Ler was kicked heavily and flew backwards.
Already at a disadvantage, Rand, facing the ogre alone, was in grave danger!
Seeing the once stable situation suddenly turn, Archer Baske could only anxiously shoot arrows to assist the endangered Rand.
However!
Although the ogre’s intelligence was low, it was far smarter than a goblin. With one companion blinded, this ogre was naturally on guard, shielding its eyes with one hand while continuing to strike with the other.
Rand was about to collapse!
Facing this situation, Tang Zheng was serious but had no intention of rushing forward.
No way!
With a top player here, there was no need for him to take risks.
“Grandmother!” Enfirea, sitting in the carriage, saw the “Rock” team’s dire state and immediately turned pale, quickly looking toward her grandmother, Lizzy.
“This level, yet they still plan to rise to a Gold-rank adventurer team.”
Grandmother Lizzy spoke expressionlessly. Though her words were harsh, she raised a finger, and a dazzling blue-white light blossomed at the fingertip.
“Thunder Strike!”
Crack!
A terrifyingly powerful energy condensed into a blue lightning bolt, shooting straight forward.
The Thunder Strike first severed the ogre’s arm that was grabbing Captain Dosali’s ankle, then, without losing power, blasted toward the other ogre!
Boom—
As the blue electric light faded, a huge burnt hole appeared on the other ogre’s chest!
Thud!
The ogre, charred all over, tilted backward and fell to the ground on its back with a muffled thump.
