Overlord: Welcoming the Birth of the King -
Chapter 14: The Surprised Crowd, "Rock" Adventurer Team
Enfirea turned around somewhat confused upon hearing the voice from behind. The four adventurers beside him had already noticed Tang Zheng approaching earlier, though they initially paid no attention, assuming he was just passing by.
To their surprise, Tang Zheng came directly toward them.
The four pairs of eyes simultaneously focused on Tang Zheng, scrutinizing him. They had just accepted a commission, and while it was highly unlikely for anyone to attack their employer within the Adventurer's Guild, maintaining vigilance was still necessary.
"It's you?"
Enfirea's bright blue eyes widened in recognition as he looked at Tang Zheng, clearly remembering the person he had encountered on the road earlier. The jet-black hair was far too uncommon to forget.
"Thank you for the waterskin." Tang Zheng smiled softly.
"Don't mention it. I'm just glad I could help."
Enfirea noticed the waterskin hanging at Tang Zheng's waist and scratched his head sheepishly.
Tang Zheng spoke to Enfirea while glancing at the four adventurers. "Apologies, but I overheard your conversation. You're heading to E-Rantel, correct? Would it be possible for me to join you?"
The question caught everyone off guard.Enfirea's face showed hesitation—he personally had no objections, but his grandmother's permission was required. The four adventurers, however, revealed nothing through their expressions, though their blank stares were an answer in itself.
Tang Zheng had anticipated this reaction. Earlier, he'd noticed that this four-member adventurer team had an unbalanced composition.
"My request was indeed rather abrupt."
"But..." Tang Zheng paused mid-sentence, then raised his palm and murmured, "Light Heal."
A gentle white glow emanated from his hand, radiating warm light!
The previously expressionless adventurers' eyes lit up in unison, filled with astonishment.
"A divine magic caster?!"
One of them couldn't help but exclaim softly.
Tang Zheng's sudden display of healing magic instantly drew the attention of many in the Adventurer's Guild hall.
In both Overlord and this other world, professions were generally divided into two major categories: warrior-type and caster-type.
Warrior-type professions could be further classified into combat, defense, archery, rogue, and so on.
Casters, meanwhile, were subdivided into four categories: arcane, divine, psychic, and others.
In this world, any caster capable of healing was commonly recognized as a divine magic caster.
Being an adventurer was an extremely dangerous profession. Combat was an inevitable part of most commissions.
Even a minor injury, if left untreated, could lead to death or even amputation.
As a result, regardless of their financial situation, adventurers always carried healing potions—no matter how exorbitantly priced they were.
Of course!
Having a caster who could use healing magic in the party wasn't just about saving money; it drastically increased the team's survival rate.
However, divine magic casters were far rarer than arcane magic casters!
In games, different magic casters were essentially the same, all consuming a resource called MP.
But in this world, some game mechanics had become reality. Just as martial arts required "focus" to execute, divine magic casters operated under similar constraints.
Thus, whenever a divine magic caster appeared, they would receive invitations from powerful adventurer teams—while weaker teams didn't even qualify to make such offers.
Tang Zheng seemed oblivious to the four adventurers' delighted gazes. After casting the spell, he casually drew the shortsword hanging at his waist.
"I also have some proficiency in swordsmanship, so I won't hold you back."
As he spoke, Tang Zheng flicked his fingers, causing the shortsword to flip deftly around his palm, demonstrating practiced ease.
In truth!
Before watching the Royal Tournament, Tang Zheng's handling of the shortsword had been extremely clumsy.
After all, he had never trained with one in his previous life.
However!
After acquiring the "Sword Saint" profession, Tang Zheng felt an indescribable familiarity with bladed weapons, as though he had trained extensively.
The onlookers, witnessing his fluid movements, recognized that Tang Zheng indeed possessed combat skills.
Once finished, Tang Zheng smoothly sheathed the shortsword at his waist before turning back to Enfirea and the others.
Noticing the four adventurers' pleased and satisfied expressions, Tang Zheng inwardly sighed in relief—it seemed the team had no further objections.
"Incredible!"
Enfirea couldn't help but widen his bright blue eyes, staring at Tang Zheng in amazement.
He never expected that the person he'd casually helped would turn out to be a divine magic caster capable of healing spells—and one who also seemed skilled in swordsmanship!
Was this what genius looked like?
Judging solely by Tang Zheng's appearance, no one would have guessed.
Grandmother was right after all.
Just like medicinal herbs, you shouldn't judge by outward appearances alone!
At that moment, the leader of the four adventurers—a blond man—stepped forward.
He appeared to be around twenty-four or twenty-five, with slightly curly stubble covering his mouth and chin, giving him an overall cheerful demeanor.
The man wore light armor on his upper body, with no protective gear below, and carried a sword on each hip.
Tang Zheng guessed his profession was likely "Light Warrior."
"My name is Dosali. These three are my close friends and fellow team members," the leader introduced with a broad smile.
"I'm Baske."
"Ler."
"Land."
The other three introduced themselves in turn.
Tang Zheng observed each of them. They were all around the same age, and though none mentioned their professions, their attire made it obvious—this adventurer team lacked not only a healer but any caster at all.
Ler and Land bore a strong resemblance, sharing the same light blond hair, likely twins. Both wore silver shields strapped to their arms.
The last, Baske, was an archer.
"Our team is called 'Rock.' As the name suggests, we specialize in defensive battles."
Not only did Dosali have his members introduce themselves, he even proactively explained their team's strengths to Tang Zheng—a level of enthusiasm he hadn't shown even to Enfirea, their employer!
Tang Zheng naturally understood the reason behind their eagerness.
"Call me Tang." Tang Zheng gave a simple nod, offering nothing further.
"We have no objections on our end," Dosali continued cheerfully, then glanced at Enfirea.
His meaning was clear—as long as the employer agreed, everything was settled.
