Overflowing Hidden Feelings: This CEO Is Hard to Please!
Chapter 419 - 419 The so-called Engagement 4

Chapter 419: The so-called Engagement 4 Chapter 419: The so-called Engagement 4 Two days later, Arnold Johnson agreed to the wedding.

Chloe Johnson had saved his life, and her father had saved him again. Coupled with the persuasion of the Johnson family and the bonds of loyalty among their circle, if he couldn’t even fulfill this, one can only imagine the consequences.

Arnold wanted to refuse at all costs, but he had to consider the life and death of others. Moreover, Grand Lady Johnson directly threatened him with the life of his good friend at the time, and under the pressure, he could only agree.

Though everything was hurried, the wedding two days later was still extraordinarily grand.

Due to the haste, they didn’t rush to get the marriage certificate.

At the wedding, Arnold was even colder than usual, never smiling throughout the entire process. Everyone just assumed that this was how he was, even at his wedding.

It was fate that his marriage to Chloe would only amount to this one ceremony.

As the wedding banquet was about to end, Arnold’s trusted underling whispered in his ear, “Brother Johnson, I discovered a secret while taking care of Uncle Dean at the hospital these past couple of days.”

“What secret?”

The underling said, “Uncle Dean was diagnosed with late-stage cancer a month ago and won’t last more than two months.”

This information was like a bolt of lightning, instantly striking Arnold’s heart and mind. Something flashed through his thoughts, and he quickly grasped it.

Such important news, and yet no one knew about it. That could only mean that Uncle Dean had kept it all to himself. Why would he do that?

Intuition and keen thinking led Arnold to make the most crucial judgment: considering Uncle Dean’s indulgence in his daughter and knowing he was going to die, he had entirely the capability to design such a scene. Arnold was betrayed by someone close to him and saved by Uncle Dean, fulfilling Dean’s final wish in life.

How many people were aware of the truth in Dean’s self-directed plan?

Did Chloe know?

Did Grand Lady Johnson know?

As various doubts flashed by, a cold yet joyful look flashed through Arnold’s eyes.

On the wedding night, Arnold did not return to his room. Instead, he brought people to further investigate the truth behind the injury incident and, unexpectedly, the facts were as he had guessed.

The so-called betrayal was actually orchestrated under Dean’s order. That was why Arnold was being hunted in such circumstances.

Arnold hated being played like a fool the most.

He intended to confront Samuel Johnson but never expected Samuel to pass away the morning after the wedding. In a way, he “died at the right time,” not knowing that Arnold had discovered the truth and still believing that his daughter had finally obtained the happiness she deserved.

With Samuel’s death, it was not worth pursuing many matters further. Moreover, the two families had always been on good terms and, in many instances, were practically one.

Arnold and Chloe continued to sleep in separate rooms, and Chloe did not question him in this regard due to Samuel’s passing, nor did she know that Arnold knew the whole truth.

After the seventh day since Samuel’s death, Grand Lady Johnson summoned the couple and said to Arnold, “You’re already married. Go and obtain the marriage certificate tomorrow.”

“Yes, Mother!” Chloe replied.

However, Arnold remained silent for a moment, looking at the expressionless Grand Lady Johnson and the secretly overjoyed Chloe. He then slowly spoke, “The wedding was for Dean’s benefit. There’s no need for a certificate.”
