Victoria Garcia continued working and resolving issues, and finally reached a conclusion regarding the problem with the new machine.
The machine was damaged because someone tampered with one of its components. The culprit was a young man in his thirties named Taylor from the Technical Department.
Victoria asked him, “Why did you do this?”
Taylor just sulked and did not speak.
“You can remain silent, but I can also record this behavior in your career profile and accuse you of deliberately damaging the company’s fixed assets, for which you should know what awaits you,” said Victoria calmly.
At this point, Taylor’s gaze finally shifted.
“I didn’t destroy anything. It’s just a problem with the component. You can’t accuse me,” Taylor said, trying to hold his ground, but he was already panicking inside.
Victoria calmly looked at him and then said, “I’m giving you two options. One, you take the initiative to confess the reason and the person behind the scenes, and I’ll let you off the hook. You can leave with the reasonable compensation offered by the company; the other option is for you to continue being silent, and once you step out of this door, I’ll have Emery handle the legal proceedings, and you can just wait to face the consequences.”
“You can’t do this.”
“Why can’t I?” Victoria countered. “Or do you think I’m too kind and easy to bully, and won’t do anything to you?”
“If that’s what you think, then I can tell you now that when dealing with people and things I don’t like, I’m more than happy to take the worse path. If you don’t believe me, feel free to try.”
“For you, it’s a huge impact, but for me, it means nothing, just a deterrent to others. Without your confession, I would uncover the truth just a few days later. The difference is that your life will be completely changed, with the possibility of never being able to get back on your feet. I’m not trying to scare you.”
Victoria finished in one breath.
Having said it all, if Taylor didn’t get the hint, she would really do as she said.
Apparently, Taylor was scared. His lips moved, and he finally opened his mouth. “It was Old Lee who told me to do it.”
“Why did you follow his orders?”
“I was recommended by Old Lee, and I’ve benefited a lot from his help in the factory. He just told me to make slight modifications to the component and said it wouldn’t have much of an impact. His goal was merely to thwart your efforts, as that was the wish of the people from Headquarters.”
Taylor also knew that such internal power struggles often happened. Since he was part of Old Lee’s faction, it was only natural for him to stand on Old Lee’s side. Another factor that made him agree without hesitation was that several teams sent by Headquarters had failed to save the Old Factory, and in his opinion, Victoria wouldn’t be any more successful.
“Tomorrow, you will go to Human Resources and complete the resignation process. Your salary and bonuses will be paid as they should be,” Victoria said without asking him any more questions, as his current demeanor wouldn’t reveal anything else.
“Little Boss Garcia, I know I was wrong. Can I stay? I won’t make this kind of mistake again,” Taylor pleaded.
Victoria, however, firmly said, “No.”
After uttering those three words, Victoria calmly told him, “Taylor, no matter which company you work for, there’s no need for someone with your technical skills to take sides. All you need to do is perform your job well, and moving to another company in your current situation might not be a bad thing.”
