Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Provocation
Fan Biao turned around and cursed at the captain of the First Company, “Zhang Yan, don’t be so arrogant. Do you have the guts to compete with me?”
The combat skills of the Second Company were lacking, but Fan Biao was a tough character, one of the few in the Special Brigade who had hardly any rivals.
Zhang Yan, the captain of the First Company, though not Fan Biao’s match, could not show weakness in the face of his provocation. If he did, how would he maintain his authority within his company?
“Reporting to the Battalion Commander, I request to compete with Fan Biao of the Second Company!” Zhang Yan stepped forward, saluted the major commander, and shouted.
Fan Biao, who had a slight advantage in strength, naturally did not fear his challenge. He also stepped forward and saluted, saying, “Permission granted, Commander!”
The battalion commander saw their eagerness to compete, smiled, and said, “Alright! I grant permission, but stop at a certain point, and make sure not to damage the camaraderie!”
With permission granted, the two men removed their belts, tossed them aside, rolled up their sleeves, and prepared to face off.
The soldiers of the two companies quickly formed a circle around them, shouting and cheering for their respective captains.
Wu Xiaoyu, standing at the door, was bewildered to see the two suddenly about to fight. What was going on? Was he being ignored?
Hearing the deafening cheers from both teams, Wu Xiaoyu couldn’t help but feel his blood boil. He walked to the battalion commander’s side and watched the duel intently.
Fan Biao and Zhang Yan initially tested each other out, then began to fight in earnest, jabbing and striking. Although Zhang Yan was slightly weaker, he didn’t show signs of defeat easily.
The soldiers of the Second Company, seeing their captain locked in a stalemate with Zhang Yan, shouted, “Captain, hit him… hit him…”
Standing on the steps, Wu Xiaoyu could see from their exchanges that Fan Biao was slightly stronger, but he was too rigid, his punches and kicks too mechanical.
In contrast, Zhang Yan, though slightly weaker, knew how to leverage his strengths and weaknesses, deliberately entangling with Fan Biao to thwart his effective attacks.
“Alas…” Wu Xiaoyu sighed, catching the battalion commander’s attention, who turned and glanced at him with slight disdain, asking, “What? Not impressed by either of them?”
Wu Xiaoyu quickly smiled, “Not at all… It’s just that Fan Biao is too rigid…”
“So you think Zhang Yan will win?” the commander continued to press.
Realizing the commander’s hostility and contempt, Wu Xiaoyu straightened up and replied seriously:
“Although Fan Biao is a bit rigid, his punches and kicks are clearly more powerful than Zhang Yan’s, so he will most likely win!”
The commander snickered aloofly at Wu Xiaoyu’s words, thinking, “I expected some sage insight, but you’re just average at best.”
Shortly after Wu Xiaoyu’s words, Fan Biao took a sudden step back, causing Zhang Yan to lose his balance. Then, Fan Biao swiftly lunged forward, pinning Zhang Yan down.
Despite Zhang Yan’s strenuous efforts to resist, his lack of strength compared to Fan Biao ultimately led to his loss.
The captain of the Third Company, holding a stopwatch, saw that Zhang Yan had been pinned for thirty seconds without being able to break free, and whistled to announce Fan Biao’s victory.
After his defeat, Zhang Yan could only glare helplessly at Fan Biao before grimly picking up his belt.
Fan Biao, smug after his victory, provocatively pointed at Wu Xiaoyu on the steps and said, “Instructor Wu, if you’re here to teach us combat, you should show us some skills, don’t you think? How about a few rounds with me?”
The soldiers of the Second Company, feeling even more confident after their captain’s victory, were even more dismissive of Wu Xiaoyu. How could a twenty-something kid come here to teach us combat?
Seeing the arrogant, self-assured faces before him, Wu Xiaoyu knew that if he didn’t show any skills, it would be hard to convince them.
If they didn’t respect him, even if they reluctantly followed his teaching, it would only be pretense, and there would be no real progress.
“You want to face me? Do you think you have a chance to win?” Wu Xiaoyu stepped forward and mocked deliberately.
Standing beside Wu Xiaoyu, the battalion commander was puzzled by the young man’s arrogance, not taking the recently victorious Fan Biao seriously.
Could this kid really be some martial arts prodigy, a genius who had mastered his skills at such a young age? But still, isn’t he a bit too young?
Wu Xiaoyu’s provocation not only irked the soldiers of the Second Company but also drew disdain from the First Company’s soldiers.
This Second Company captain had just defeated their captain, and now this kid was humiliating the Second Company captain, which also indirectly humiliated their own captain.
Hundreds of soldiers waited eagerly for the Second Company captain’s response, and the captain did not disappoint. Smirking disdainfully, he shouted:
“Kid, don’t think that just because the brigade commander brought you here, I’ll be easy on you! If you lose, get lost! Stop being a nuisance!”
The soldiers of the Second Company immediately echoed, “Yeah… If you can’t cut it, get lost early!”
The battalion commander saw the high spirits of the soldiers and smiled at Wu Xiaoyu, “So, do you accept the challenge?”
Wu Xiaoyu cast a glance at him, feeling slightly annoyed, “It seems the battalion commander isn’t happy with me either?”
But, this was understandable. To them, he was just a young kid. How could he become an instructor for the special warfare soldiers?
“Alright! None of them are my match anyway!” Wu Xiaoyu smiled calmly.
Although he was merely stating the truth, the soldiers found his words profoundly irritating. How arrogant, how cocky, how dismissive of them!
“Captain Fan, go for it…” Even the defeated First Company soldiers couldn’t help but cheer for Fan Biao.
After all, at this moment, Fan Biao represented not just the Second Company but the entire Special Combat Team. If he lost to this cocky kid, wouldn’t that imply their team was filled with useless fighters?
Hearing the resounding cheers, Wu Xiaoyu jumped down the steps, walked up to Fan Biao, and smiled, “What if you lose?”
“If I lose, the Second Company will totally submit to you. If you say go east, we won’t go west!” Fan Biao flexed his biceps provocatively.
“Alright! Make your move!” Wu Xiaoyu stood still and shouted to Fan Biao.
Fan Biao threw a testing punch in front of Wu Xiaoyu’s face, but seeing that Wu Xiaoyu didn’t even flinch or show any intention to dodge, he felt even more contempt.
Not even showing basic reflexes, and he’s here to teach us combat? What a joke!
The surrounding soldiers, seeing Wu Xiaoyu not dodging Fan Biao’s punch, started laughing, thinking he couldn’t even react in time.
What the hell! And this guy dares to teach us combat? Even a teenager would be better than him!
“Pssh—just go home! Don’t get killed by our captain!” a Second Company soldier taunted openly.
His taunt triggered another wave of laughter among the soldiers.
Hearing the mocking laughter around him, Wu Xiaoyu just smiled wryly and scrutinized Fan Biao across from him.
His punches and kicks were swift and powerful, but his mindset was too impetuous, and his defense was loose. Maybe it’s because he didn’t take me seriously?
Fan Biao’s bluster made it clear to him that Wu Xiaoyu still wouldn’t make a move or even show any intention to dodge, so he already deemed him a mere charlatan.
