Chapter 997: Chapter 990: Strike Back
"That’s right," Baiyue nodded and then explained with gestures, "We just need a few mages to open a magic barrier, blocking the surrounding magical energy from converging, while using the energy within the barrier before it depletes. Then we’ll trick Liseya into entering this barrier. As long as she can’t receive any magical energy, she’ll be like a shark out of water, unable to move on land, thus restricting her freedom."
"But, after the magic is drained, won’t her soul also dissipate?" Luo’er asked with a worried expression.
"No," Baiyue shook his head and then looked at Luo’er, "Don’t forget Liseya is a demigod; her soul is anchored by a device, not by magic. Even if her physical form loses magic, her soul won’t scatter because it’s not reliant on the ether but on the device."
"I see." Luo’er nodded with an enlightened look.
"Actually, to some extent, there isn’t much difference in superiority between demigods and gods," Baiyue said. "True gods, because their souls need magic to be constrained, will fall once they lose their magical power, which is the Twilight of the Gods. But demigods, since their root is in the device, won’t necessarily have their souls scattered even if they lose magic bindings."
"Of course, in the long run, gods are still stronger than demigods. For a god can only be destroyed by the environment, whereas to destroy a demigod, one only needs to destroy their lifeline," Baiyue paused then added.
"So, looking at it that way, there might still be mages on the other side?" Luo’er asked, frowning.
"Yes," Baiyue nodded, pursed his lips hesitantly for a moment, and then continued, "Moreover, the level of the opponent’s mages is clearly not low, they must be at least at a professional level. Don’t forget, at Lipei’s time, it took a magic conductor of the Semi-Forbidden Curse level and a magic prodigy just to barely deal with the Otherworld Gate."
"You are also a magic prodigy, don’t be so modest," Luo’er said with a smile.
"No, I’m not," Baiyue sighed, glanced at Tangmo who was replenishing Feng’s magic, and then said sentimentally, "Compared to Sister Moumou, I fall far short. I must admit that."
While they were chatting, Fulajie’er suddenly appeared in mid-air and said urgently, "Luo’er Luo’er, it’s bad. That, that Cheng Ziang’s ancestor has been trapped by a group of mages."
"How did they trap her?" Luo’er was stunned for a moment and quickly asked.
"Well, they, they conjured a huge barrier, enclosing her within it. She can no longer manifest and can’t even move. I’m glad I didn’t go in, or I would be trapped inside too," Fulajie’er said somewhat aggrievedly.
"Just as you expected," Luo’er said in surprise while turning to look at Baiyue.
"It’s no big deal," Baiyue waved his hand, speaking dismissively, "Anyone who knows enough about Liseya would think of this move because it’s the most practical one."
"Luo’er, what do we do now?" Cheng Ziang looked at Luo’er with an agitated expression, stuttering slightly. It was evident that Liseya’s plight greatly affected him.
"Don’t be impulsive, remember we still have an outside ally," Luo’er reached out to reassure him.
"Old Hu!?" Cheng Ziang’s eyes widened incredulously before he asked after a pause.
"Yes, we can have him launch a surprise attack, kill those mages, and free Liseya. As long as Liseya regains her freedom, then there’s practically no suspense in the battle," Luo’er said.
"Then good, let Xiao Fula quickly inform Old Hu to open fire!" Cheng Ziang said impatiently.
"Stay calm, stay calm," Luo’er comforted him, "Remember, Liseya is a demigod. She can only be completely killed by destroying her lifeline. Right now, she’s just deprived of her freedom; her life is not at risk."
Speaking of which, Luo’er turned back to Fulajie’er and said, "Fula, go out immediately and check if they’re setting up explosives. If they are, your task is to prevent them from blowing up the gate at all costs."
"I know, I’ll go right away!" Fulajie’er nodded, ready to leave.
"Wait, wait, wait, don’t rush," Luo’er paused and then continued, "Also, first inform Little Ke to provide continuous fire against those mages to cover Liseya’s escape. As long as Liseya can break free, we won’t need to worry about the fight. Your focus should just be on ensuring the gate doesn’t get blown up."
"Alright, I’ll go inform the big guy first and then try to stop those people from blowing up the gate!" Fulajie’er complied and then vanished into thin air.
"Check your weapons," Luo’er commanded the group after sending Fulajie’er away, "As soon as the gunfire dies down, we’ll provide covering fire and break out in turns, aiming to launch a countercharge."
"Aren’t we waiting for Feng to recover?" Baiyue asked.
"We’re not waiting," Luo’er said, glancing at Feng before shaking his head, "There’s already a god outside, we don’t need to send another killing god."
After checking their weapons, Luo’er seemed to realize something and turned his head to look behind him while asking with concern, "Aunt Axia, Talis, are you both alright?"
"We’re fine, thankfully we hid in time," Axia shook her head.
"I’m fine too, thankfully Senior Axia was there to help, or I might have been hit," Talis said, still feeling lingering fear.
"Good," Luo’er nodded and then continued to instruct, "When we break out, you two stay behind and don’t move around. Wait until we’ve dealt with everyone outside before coming out."
"Do you need our help?" Axia asked.
"No need, this is a battle of firearms, we’re more proficient at it," Luo’er shook his head, declining the offer.
Having given his instructions to the two, Luo’er turned back and saw Cheng Ziang slowly pulling out his nearly broken longsword and couldn’t help but say, "Ziang, you..."
"Don’t worry about me, just do your thing in the fight, I have my own measures," Cheng Ziang spoke and lowered his head to check the control knob of his ultra-mobility device at his waist.
"Then be careful," Luo’er nodded, then stayed silent, knowing Cheng Ziang knew what he was doing.
Soon, a discordant burst of gunfire came from outside the door. Along with the gunfire, the rhythm outside became chaotic, and the bullets flying into the tomb diminished significantly.
"Now’s the time, move forward with alternate cover, attack!" Luo’er shouted, leading the way by flipping over the cover and rushing forward to the next barricade, where he quickly aimed his gun.
Since it was dark inside and bright outside, they needed a moment to adjust, and for the time being, they couldn’t make out the situation outside clearly.
Cheng Ziang was the second to act. Seeing Luo’er take cover, he made a leaping step, aided by his ultra-mobility device, covering more than ten meters in one bound to the edge of the doorway.
"Luo’er!" Cheng Ziang called out as he reached the door’s edge and then gestured with his hand.
"Understood!" Luo’er nodded, taking a flashbang grenade from his pocket, pulled the pin, and threw it to him.
Cheng Ziang swiftly caught the incoming grenade and, without a second thought, hurled it outside the door. The flashbang grenade erupted with a loud bang and produced intense light, enough to disorient the enemies outside.
With his ears covered, and after hearing the grenade go off, Cheng Ziang shook his long sword, then with his right hand on the hilt and left on the ultra-mobility device’s dial, he turned and rushed out.
The moment he burst through the main door, he leaped into the air, soaring over ten meters high. Taking advantage of the time it took for all the enemies to react, he struggled to adapt to the light outside, finally squinting his eyes to lock onto a group of Mages huddled together below him.
He soared over the top of these Mages, then landed on the tent roof outside, stepping forcefully on the frame to readjust his ultra-mobility device and then launching himself directly at the doorway of the Mages.
Cheng Ziang’s speed was so fast that the people outside couldn’t react for a while, watching him fly around in the sky.
Utilizing the mobility of the ultra-mobility device, Cheng Ziang was beside a Mage in the blink of an eye and quickly whisked past him.
The other Mages watched with wide eyes as he passed by them, accompanied by a tearing sound, and immediately, a warm liquid splashed onto their faces.
