Chapter 816: Chapter 809: Sniping

After checking their weapons, the two of them followed and walked out of the warehouse. From time to time, intermittent gunfire could be heard outside the warehouse.

Hearing this succession of gunfire, Luo’er couldn’t help feeling a bit surprised, thinking to himself that the Purification Legion had just left not long ago, and here the Booze Ghost Gang had come to cause trouble. They really weren’t afraid of hitting the wrong person and offending the Purification Legion.

However, this time, with new equipment obtained, Azita finally stopped playing it safe and actively directed his men to defend and launch counterattacks.

Their current location was downstream of Holy Heart City, with the Western District on the opposite bank. The public order here was much worse than upstream, and it essentially relied on underground gangs to maintain basic order.

So generally speaking, as long as the gunfire didn’t spread to the Western District, no one would interfere with the affairs of the two major gangs. Even if they tore the city apart, it wouldn’t matter.

Of course, now that the Booze Ghost Gang had the backing of the CIA, Luo’er couldn’t guarantee that the Holy Heart City’s patrol police or the city defense forces wouldn’t get involved.

The urban planning in this area was a complete mess, with only the neighborhoods near the bank having some clear planned layouts. Most other places were basically illegal buildings. Fighting a gun battle in such places could be much more thrilling than indoor CQB.

The two walked out of the warehouse, and the scattered members of the Hound Gang were stationed at various high grounds and key points to ensure the security around the warehouse.

At that moment, Azita was discussing something with his subordinates. Upon hearing his orders, they nodded continuously and then dispersed to take up their positions.

Luo’er had always regarded Azita as a gang leader, so much so that he almost forgot that Azita had once commanded a combat squad.

In that rescue operation for Zhuyan Yu, the Advance Team encountered a mercenary squad led by Azita and ended up being caught off guard by the Advance Team’s specialty in close-range ambushes and quick attack and fierce combat tactics. They were almost wiped out without putting up much resistance.

Clearly, Azita had learned from the previous encounter with the Advance Team’s annihilation and began to imitate the Advance Team’s tactical system.

Empowered by the AK rifle, Azita began to counterattack. His tactics were somewhat familiar. In urban street warfare, he divided his men into groups of three as combat units, each man with an AK rifle or submachine gun, then they alternated in providing cover and suppression, clearing and advancing street by street.

This was somewhat similar to the Three Three System combined with modern CQB. After all, Azita was once under the CIA and must have undergone some professional tactical training from Earth, so he couldn’t possibly be as ignorant as other Otherworlders.

This time the Booze Ghost Gang attacked, and Azita was brimming with confidence, believing he had the upper hand to eliminate all the invading foes from the Booze Ghost Gang.

His confidence stemmed from the weapons Luo’er had provided him. After all, there’s a significant difference between submachine guns and assault rifles, and with the appropriate use of tactics, they could completely dominate the opposition, leaving them with no ability to fight back.

Honestly, Luo’er didn’t hope that Azita could crush the Booze Ghost Gang, because his intention was just for the Hound Gang to contain the Booze Ghost Gang. He didn’t ask for much, just enough to ensure their safety during their time in Holy Heart City.

Thinking it through, it had been a while since Cheng Ziang went to Holy City, and he was probably going to return soon. Luo’er was still considering whether to wait for his return before making a decision. However, if there was a chance, he would prefer to send Eve out of the city first, escaping the CIA’s net laid out within.

Now, it seemed there were only two ways to get Eve out of the city: one was through the Hound Gang using the water route, and the other might require Carter’s help to use the Purification Legion to take Eve away.

He had been pondering what to do, and now the appearance of Carter gave him another option.

"Boss!" Just as Luo’er was deep in thought, he suddenly heard Hu Daoke’s exclamation. He saw Hu Daoke swiftly pounce towards Luo’er, knocking him to the ground.

The moment his elbow hit the ground, Luo’er heard the frightening sound of a bullet ricocheting off the stone. About half a second later, the sound of the gunshot belatedly arrived.

"Sniper!" Luo’er widened his eyes and asked Hu Daoke.

"Yeah, I was just looking at the distant tower and felt something was off, and sure enough, they had set up a sniper there."

"Why are they targeting us?" Luo’er pushed Hu Daoke away and then the two of them ducked around the corner, out of the sniper’s line of fire.

"I’m guessing they must have mistaken us for top brass of the Hound Gang." Hu Daoke indicated the two shell-shocked henchmen trailing behind them as he spoke.

"Damn," Luo’er cursed under his breath, then yelled at the two frozen henchmen, "Don’t just stand there, get your boss to cover, there’s a sniper on the other side!"

"Oh, oh!" Only then did the two henchmen snap to action, clutching their submachine guns as they turned to flee.

However, one hadn’t gotten far before a scream tore from his throat, collapsing on the ground in an instant, while the distant sound of gunfire arrived belatedly.

"Damn, that’s kind of accurate, check the distance," Luo’er said, exhaling in relief.

"Eh!" Hu Daoke acknowledged, then cautiously stuck out his thumb, made a few measuring gestures, and quickly retreated, muttering to himself.

"The distance is over five hundred meters..." After estimating for a while, Hu Daoke answered hesitantly.

"So accurate from so far away, that’s kind of impressive," Luo’er commented, shaking his head in awe.

"Boss, it’s kinda dangerous, shall we beat it?" Hu Daoke immediately chickened out as soon as he realized they were up against a sniper.

You should know that a distance of over five hundred meters was challenging not just for them, but also for their weapons, which were virtually useless. After all, the effective combat range of an assault rifle is within two hundred meters. Asking them to counter-snipe with assault rifles really was too much for the pair of them.

"Yeah, signal for a retreat!" Luo’er agreed with him, since they were without teammates or weapons—managing against regular gunmen was one thing, but going head-to-head with a sniper was tantamount to suicide.

"Let me see if I can pull out," Hu Daoke said, poking his head out yet again.

But this time he wasn’t so lucky. It seemed the sniper had them squarely in his sights; as Hu Daoke’s head emerged, a bullet whizzed past his scalp, Luo’er even thought he could smell singed hair.

Scared out of his wits, Hu Daoke immediately recoiled and looked at Luo’er with wide eyes, almost too frightened to speak.

"You okay...?" Luo’er found Hu Daoke’s reaction both worrisome and amusing.

Looking outside, after the sniper had fired, the numbers of Hound Gang members had surged. The terrain around the warehouse was open with no cover, making it easy to get sniped if they stayed put.

However, from what he observed, the sniper appeared to have spared the riffraff, focusing solely on them. Once they hid, the sniper had ceased firing.

The spot they were hiding in was a dead-end at a corner, leaving almost no alternative routes to escape besides rushing out. Now pinned down by the sniper, Luo’er couldn’t help but miss the times when Fulajie’er and Feng were at his side.

Without going into details, just having Fulajie’er around would have constrained the sniper’s shots, assuring a safe retreat—something ordinary folks couldn’t manage.

"Sigh, if Xiao Fula or Little Fengye were here, we wouldn’t be this passive," Hu Daoke said, checking his hair dejectedly and shaking his head.

"No," Luo’er shook his head, "We can’t always depend on them. After all, our Advance Team didn’t come this far solely by relying on them."

"That’s true," Hu Daoke conceded, "but with them, things do tend to be a lot simpler, right?"

"We can handle it on our own," Luo’er affirmed, pulling a smoke bomb from his pocket. Pulling the pin, he said, "As long as we keep our wits about us, there will always be more solutions than problems."
