When the five gangsters heard the familiar voice, their eyes darted to the figure behind Jett.

It was a towering man with shoulders as broad as boulders. A jagged knife scar ran just beneath his piercing, coal-black eyes, giving him a permanent glare.

His skin was weathered, like cracked leather, and his jawline was sharp, shadowed by a day-old stubble.

His hair, thick and unkempt, fell to his neck. A broken nose and a faint burn mark across his cheek added to his menacing aura.

He wore a long, dark coat that swayed like a shadow with heavy boots that thudded against the ground with every step.

The gangsters’ eyes lit up in surprise before they hurried to his side.

The gang leader bowed to him slightly as he reported, "Big boss, there’s this rascal here being so condescending."

"It’s nothing you have to worry about, I’ll make sure to teach him a lesson so he doesn’t dare to step foot in Darki ever again!"

As he spoke, he balled both hands into a tight fish to show conviction to his words.

His eyes then darted to Kelsie who stood at a corner, eyes lowered to the ground as she boredly drew lines on the sand with her foot.

Seeing this casual attitude of hers, a bold thought seeped into the gang leader’s mind.

In this village, everyone bowed to the big boss. And he was merely one of the many gang leaders in Darki who served him.

He wasn’t even qualified to touch the big boss’ shoes. If he taught these insolent arseholes a lesson, the big boss would surely see how devoted to him he is.

With this thought, he turned to the gangsters with him, barking loudly, "Since they won’t acknowledge the big boss willingly, break their limps and drag them here to do so!"

The gangsters, also eager to prove themselves to the big boss, nodded immediately and grabbed the tools lying around.

They had just taken a step forward when Jett subtly glanced behind his shoulders.

Recognizing the familiar side profile, the big boss was instantly gripped with intense fear, and didn’t know when he yelled out, "Stop where you are!"

Hearing him, the gang leader turned to him in confusion.

"Big boss, you really don’t have to do anything. These bastards who do not know their place, I’ll teach them a lesson for you!"

"So there’s no need for you to get your hands dirty or that of your boys. I will take care of this to your satisfaction! If I don’t, I’ll receive whatever punishment you give me!"

However, to his surprise, the big boss turned to him, growling in irritation, "Are you stupid? I said not to do anything!"

Though still having a lot to say, the gang leader nodded and no longer said anything.

As a gang leader who saw the big boss once every week, he knew better than to anger him or fuel his anger.

So he lowered his eyes and stepped aside.

Meanwhile, the big boss was trying so hard to remain standing on his foot as he dragged his limping left leg towards Jett.

The gangsters naturally assumed Jett had angered him on a personal level which was why he was intent on teaching him a lesson himself.

As the person closest to him stretched a dagger towards him, he ignored him and continued limping towards Jett.

What happened next caused their jaws to almost drop to the floor.

Unable to believe their eyes, they turned to each other in confusion, muttering underneath their breaths.

"What is he doing?"

"Did his leg give way mistakenly?"

"Should we help him up?"

"I think there’s something wrong."

Whatever doubt they had in their minds at seeing their boss kneeling behind an unknown man, disappeared the very next second when they heard the big boss’ trembling voice.

"Boss, this useless thing in form of a man has erred greatly against you. How could I possibly atone for it?"

Silence.

The gangsters instantly exchanged puzzled looks before they naturally followed after him and dropped to their knees as well.

The gang leader with Jett and Kelsie was the most confused, but also very scared.

The big boss referred to someone else as his boss?

And just thirty minutes ago, he had ordered his boys to attack the big boss’ boss?

Tears pricked the corners of his eyes out of nowhere.

The shaman had told him this would be the start of his best years. So the start of his best year was his death anniversary?

While he was already imaging the worst scenarios of what would happen to him once the big boss found out what he did, the gang leader who had just threatened to break Jett’s limps was the most frightened as he broke out in cold sweat.

Ten seconds had passed already and the big boss wasn’t saying anything, which meant he didn’t make a mistake addressing this man in fancy suit as his boss.

Without thinking twice, he began slamming his head against the stony ground in fear.

"I-I will accept whatever punishment you deem fit for me. All I ask is that you spare my worthless life!"

A moment later, Jett tossed down the pebbles.

The big boss’ eyes widened in sheer horror when he saw them.

As expected, he was still very ruthless despite so many years passing.

His lips twitched slightly as he suppressed the various thoughts running through his mind.

"To what do I owe this privilege of your visit, boss?"

Kingsley Lennox forced on a smile, suddenly having the urge to feel the deep knife scar just below his eyes.

The nightmare from 15 years ago, which he had been trying so hard to forget, instantly resurfaced in his mind.

Back then, this man in front of him was barely a teenager, yet he had single-handedly fought him and many others, all at least seven years older.

If the person in the smiley mask hadn’t appeared, Jett Adler would’ve killed them all in the heat of the fight.
