Chapter 60: Chapter 60 ...By My Team Leader!

Laura’s teammates and everyone else began nodding in agreement, finding sense in her words.

But Laura was fuming inside seeing the mocking smile tugging the corners of Kelsie’s lips.

She didn’t know why, but she had a feeling Kelsie knew about the program not being hers.

She wasn’t one to talk so much, but she was actually going all out for this Zoe Derruci. It was either one of two things; Zoe was really the owner of the program or Kelsie was trying to pit her against someone who was struggling with programming.

If she panicked and refused to compete with Zoe, she feared people would misunderstand it for her lying.

She was still contemplating what to do when one of her teammates patted her reassuringly on the shoulder.

"You don’t have to hesitate, Laura. If we hear anyone say you intentionally bullied Zoe Derruci, i promise you we will not let that person off the hook!"

"Yes, you can count on us! We will personally hack the computers of anyone who dares to troll you!"

In matter of seconds, various words of encouragement flew out from every corner of the room.

Noticing how she had everyone on her side, the inspectors, still confused about the creator of the program, glanced at Zoe Derruci again, the thought that they almost gave credits to a ’thief’ filled them with anger.

They didn’t know much about Laura, but seeing that she had 70 percent of the people in the contest cheering for her made them believe Zoe must’ve really stolen the program from her.

Zoe, on the other hand, knitted her brows into a tight frown and turned to Kelsie, saying worriedly in a small voice.

"I-i don’t know why you’re doing this, but I saw you write this program. Laura knows way too much about programming than me, so I assure you you’re going to lose your invention to her if you don’t tell anyone it’s yours."

Kelsie’s face softened as she turned to stare into her face.

"Laura doesn’t know a thing about the program. As long as she fails to replicate it, the inspectors will know she’s lying."

Zoe stared into her eyes and pursed her lips tightly. After a while, she mumbled, "It seems like you’re trying to help me. Why are you trying to help me?"

Before Kelsie could say anything in reply, one of the inspectors stepped forward and called out in a raised voice, "Zoe Derruci and Laura Sutton, I would like you both to step forward!"

Two desks and chairs were promptly moved to the middle of the room along with new computers.

Laura was the first to take her seat before Zoe sluggishly dragged her feet across the floor until she got to the middle of the room and took her seat as well.

Another inspector strutted to their front, wearing a serious expression as he gave them their task.

"Since you both claim you’re the creator of the program, you have to write the exact same program in one hour."

Laura’s breath instantly hitched and she subconsciously glanced at the computer the code was in.

Her initial plan was was to study the code carefully and memorize as much as she could.

She reasoned if she could replicate a few lines, she would be able to claim she couldn’t recall the rest of the program as it isn’t the only program she’s currently working on.

But never did she think the experts had no intention of letting anyone else lay eyes on the program.

She lowered her face slightly and anxiously bit the inside of her cheeks until she could taste a familiar metallic taste.

After remaining that way for several seconds, she raised her eyes to glance at her opponent and was taken aback back by what she saw; Zoe’s fingers were moving quickly across her keyboard.

A new wave of worry hit her again.

This program... was it really hers?

She hurriedly shook the thought away, finding it very unlikely.

If she was really capable, she wouldn’t be the first to get kicked out of every contest and competition she was in.

She didn’t know much about Zoe, but she had lied a lot in her life to sense there was a possibility Zoe was lying about the program being hers.

So it was up to either of them who wrote the most meaningful program to be awarded ownership of it.

With that thought in mind, she lowered her eyes to her keyboard and began typing away. free.webn\ove(l)(.)c(o)m

One hour passed in the blink of an eye before the inspectors took turns checking the written programs.

They had the same blank look in their eyes which made it difficult for everyone to tell what they were thinking.

After going through the programs more than three times, they stepped away from earshort to discuss amongst themselves.

Almost immediately, Laura’s teammates began jesting smugly, convinced they knew what the outcome would be.

"What is there to discuss? It’s obvious whom the program belongs to."

"Petition to remove Zoe Derruci from the contest and give her a severe warning not to hack into someone else’s computer ever again!"

"Hmph! If she can hack into someone’s computer, she should’ve gone far in life by now!"

"She must be where she is because she won’t stop lying and trying to walk all over people."

No one in Kelsie’s team paid them any heed and just waited with bated breaths for the inspectors to finish their discussion.

Two minutes later, the inspectors walked back to Laura and Zoe, looking very disappointed, "It looks like you two just threw in as many codes as you could think of."

"Now, I don’t know how such an ingenious program came about, but we will figure it out later."

"For now, you both will be eliminated from the contest for wasting everyone’s time and for trying to mislead us."

The words had barely escaped his lips when Kelsie frowned slightly and leaned forward, ready to speak, when a timid voice beat her to it.

"You’re right, the program wasn’t written by me, but it was written by my team leader!"
