Chapter 233: Chapter 233 Remembering Her ‘Sister’

Kelsie was in the middle of surgery when her phone rang.

Molly, who was handing her tools, took off one glove to answer the call, placing it on speaker as she did.

As soon as the call connected, Jack Adler’s voice blared through the speaker.

"It’ll be their great-grandmother’s birthday in a few days. What do you say we introduce her to the triplets then?"

"And before you worry about how the rest of the Adler family will feel, remember—I’m still the head of the family when Jett is away."

"Moreover, with Jett and I ordering them to be on their best behavior and say nothing about the triplets, they won’t dare leak the news of their existence to the world until you’re ready!"

Kelsie was silent as she sutured the skin she had cut open.

When almost ten seconds went by without hearing a word from her, the man assumed he had offended her by his request.

"You’re not offended I asked the kids to come by to see their grandmother, are you?"

Hearing his voice again, Kelsie realized she hadn’t responded the first time and laughed softly, "What? I’m just finishing up a surgery here. About the triplets—they’re having tests in school this coming week, so I don’t really know about that."

His voice came up almost immediately, "No, it’s not the week to come. It’s this week we’re currently in. This Saturday. It’s not Sunday, so they’ll still have time to revise their notes on Sunday."

Kelsie shrugged and glanced at the wall clock across from her, muttering loud enough to be heard, "Okay. They’re your great-grandchildren, after all. And it’s also the least I can do for your help today."

"Oh, it’s nothing. So should I be expecting them on Saturday, granddaughter in-law?"

"Of course, grandfather."

The man’s voice grew giddier than usual when he heard her hum.

The call ended the second Kelsie finished the surgery and turned to Molly.

"You know what to give him once you get him into a room?"

Glancing at the patient, she nodded, "Morphine and relievers."

Kelsie bobbed her head in acknowledgment and turned to leave without another word.

She had just stepped out of the practice when she saw one of the janitors standing behind the door.

Upon seeing her, the janitor’s eyes lit up and she raised her phone anxiously.

"Dr. Sutton, there are people at the door insisting on seeing you. One of them even has security and won’t leave no matter how much we tell them to."

Her brows furrowed in surprise.

Security?

Did the women’s committee change tactics, choosing to hire legal secret this time so she wouldn’t be able to intimidate them anymore?

"You’re plain disrespectful telling me to leave! Didn’t I tell you this is my elder sister’s practice?!"

Laura’s voice from the reception made Kelsie’s frown deepen, and she subconsciously quickened her pace.

After yesterday, she realized that hiring one elderly security guard wasn’t enough, so she’d asked Daniel to scout better ones.

This morning, she arrived at the practice to find three intimidating, bulky men standing guard inside the building.

When she identified herself, they informed her they were the security Daniel had found. Only then did she realize he had left her a message with their details the night before.

So she wasn’t too surprised to find Laura lingering by the door, threatening them angrily from a safe distance.

Her eyes shifted to an unexpected face she hadn’t thought she’d see and she frowned harder. But he wasn’t alone.

He’d come with someone she had never met before. Even more confusing were the security guards lingering outside and the two standing behind them.

If they came with security outnumbering hers, why didn’t they try to force their way in and just stood by the door?

When Bryan met her gaze, he gritted his teeth and lowered his eyes silently.

Though he wanted nothing more than to lash out, the memory of that day at the supermarket was still fresh in his mind.

Besides, he already disappointed his grandfather which was what he came here to fix that.

If he showed any sort of hostility toward her...

"You’re here. Mom and Dad were arrested and they won’t let me talk to them. I have no money and don’t know how to access the money in their accounts for bail. So give me money to bail them out."

With Kelsie now in the same space, Laura grew confident and began waltzing toward her with those authoritative words.

However, she barely took a step forward before one of the men blocked her path, an angry frown etched on his face.

Braver than ever, she glared hard at him, "Do you have no manners? That’s my sister right there!"

"She’s the employer, and since I’m her sister, I have the same authority over her as you. So get the hell out of my way this minute!"

Kelsie wasn’t surprised to see her pulling this card and resisted the urge to laugh as she said sternly, "This is a workplace, Laura. If you wish to talk, do so calmly."

"Or what? You won’t bail out your parents from jail? I understand that you feel no fondness toward my mother since she didn’t birth you, but we share the same father, so it’s only right that you be filial to him by providing money for his bail!" Laura lashed out at her in righteous indignation.

"There you go, screaming your lungs out again. We’re not in a screaming competition" Kelsie’s eyes dimmed slightly before she sneered, "And since when did blood become thicker than water with you people? I have no reason to help them when they’ve never helped me."

"You ungrateful little..."

Laura was halfway through screaming again when Kelsie sucked in her teeth and glanced at one of the security guards.

Without thinking twice, he stepped forward, grabbed Laura by the arm, and dragged her through the door and out of the building in one swift motion.
