Chapter 202 Jett’s Realization

Chapter 202: Chapter 202 Jett’s Realization

That evening, Kelsie refused to let Jett pick her up and drove to the place on her own.

Waiting outside the hotel was a man of average height with a lanky build and prescription glasses.

When he saw her car drive in, he first cross-checked its licence plate number with the one he was given.

Confirming it was the right one, he ran toward the car, holding the door open for her to alight.

"Ms. Sutton, you’re here."

"Oh, hi." Her surprise deepened when she saw his name plaque, which identified him as the manager, pinned to his left breast pocket.

Lowering his head respectfully, he gestured to the top floor, "Mr. Adler is waiting upstairs."

Ah, so that was why.

This person already knew who she was coming to meet.

Starting the car again, she nodded, "Okay, I’ll follow you up once I park properly."

The words had just fallen when a vallet sprinted toward them.

"We have vallets for that, ma’am."

Kelsie didn’t insist and alighted, handing her key to the vallet.

The manager’s eyes briefly swept over her tight-fitting gown, which accentuated her curves, its oversized sleeves adding a dramatic touch.

Then he lowered his eyes and led her into the building, strutting straight to an elevator.

A moment later, they arrived on the last floor and he stood behind as she walked stepped into the third floor.

Glancing around, Kelsie frowned slightly.

The first two floors were filled to the brim, but not a soul was on this floor?

Each table was designed in an elegant and convenient fashion, with a light board separating them from each other.

The space for each table were so big she feared it could pass for a room.

She was still looking around when Jett’s head suddenly popped out from behind one.

"You’re here."

Walking toward him, she was genuinely concerned. "Is this floor newly built? Why are there no customers?"

"That’s because I rented out the entire floor." He answered behind the cupboard.

Vivid images from two nights ago flashed through her mind, causing her to miss a step.

She instantly lost her footing and fell forward, grabbing the nearest table for support.

Hearing the slight commotion, the man poked out his head again, brows creasing in worry when he saw her position.

"Are you alright?"

Feeling her flushed cheeks, she quickly nodded, "What? Yes. Of course. I’m just surprised you rented out?"

He stared at her for a moment before sticking his head behind the board again.

"Some people know what I look like. If they find out I’m cooking for a woman they’ve never seen before, it’s only a matter of time before they dig up every information about you."

Kelsie found herself nodding in agreement.

However, he suddenly stopped what he was doing and stepped out from behind the board, revealing a black apron he tied around his waist.

"I have an idea. Why don’t we just file the marriage certificate we have in the safe and announce to the whole world we’re married with three children."

"No!" The words were barely out of his mouth when she vehemently refused.

Jett’s face fell and he scoffed, "You didn’t even think about it."

"I... it’s just..." Kelsie stuttered speechlessly for a moment before she went silent and simply stared at him.

The truth? Never in her life did she ever consider getting married.

She already had three adorable children. She could make money, so it was easy to provide for them.

She could protect them physically and financially. When she couldn’t physically protect them, she’d just hire a bodyguard.

Jett saw the reluctance in her eyes and retreated behind the cupboard, dishing what he made for them as he tried to convince her, "Think of the many perks of getting married to me. You’ll be Mrs. Adler, we’ll have a joint bank account so you can buy whatever you want."

Kelsie inched toward the table and took her seat opposite him.

"Those are only two perks."

He was instantly at a loss for words.

With other women, he had a lot to offer but with Kelsie, he realized he had little.

"How about I become a house husband?"

"Why would you do that?"

"To take care of my wife and children properly."

"No, you look good in your suit and ties."

"But you mocked me for it."

"That’s because you always looked so good in them."

He went silent and so did she.

Taking off the apron, he sat down and stared into her face as she scooped a spoonful into her mouth.

"It’s good." Her words were heavily muffled as she chewed on it.

Crossing his leg on the other, he beamed proudly and leaned back, "It has to be. I’m your chef."

"I fear I’ve been indulging you too much."

She sighed while he continued beaming.

After a while, she stopped eating and reached for the champagne glass.

"So, I quit the hospital."

"I heard. That’s all every staff can talk about. Is there any specific reason you quit?"

"I wanted something, but it was impossible to get it, so I left."

"What is it? I’ll help you get it."

Kelsie paused, appearing to consider it.

He was a shareholder after all. The second highest shareholder.

Getting into the database was a piece of cake and Kelvin Reynolds wouldn’t even suspect it.

However, she shook her head in refusal.

"I can take care of if."

This was a family issue and she refused to involve a stranger in a revenge scheme he didn’t know about.

Jett fell silent again.

His mind wandering to the realization she didn’t need him for anything.

What was the use of having so much money and influence if the woman he loved didn’t have any use for it?

Merely thinking about it caused him heartache and he could barely eat.

Kelsie noticed this, but before she could ask what was wrong, he got on his feet and planted a kiss on her cheek.

"I have to pick up something at Adler Group. I’ll have Eric drive back with you."

Then he hurried out.

The rest of the day and even the following day, she couldn’t help thinking if she said anything which offended him.

After a futile hunt for a good place to open her practice with Callum, he bade her farewell before they both went in different directions.

Re-reading the seven messages she sent Jett throughout the day, she sighed and stepped harder on the accelerator.

Maybe he was working again like the last time and didn’t have time to check his phone.

The thought had just settled in when her phone lit up with a call from him.

She promptly answered if, expecting his usual teasing voice only to be met with that of a woman’s.

"Hello, good evening. There’s a drunk man in our bar. I called because it seems he was composing a message for you before he fell asleep."

She immediately braked. "What’s your bar called?"

"It’s Drinking Creak. We’re located in town, two streets before Haven Medical Center."

"I’ll be right there."

She ended call, reversed and sped toward town.

Seventeen minutes later, she was in front of the bar with a glowing neon sign, the words ’Drinking Creak’ sprawled across it.

She walked into the bar, strutting straight to the man with his head on the counter.

Upon seeing her, the bartender behind the counter handed her Jett’s phone.

"He’s been here since last night. We didn’t notice because the person on night shift for yesterday didn’t come in."

"So when the morning worker resumed work, she just assumed he had come in in the morning and kept pouring him drinks."

Kelsie stood over him and placed a finger under his nose.

Feeling his subtle breathing on it, she retracted it and turned to the bartender.

"Has he paid?"

"I don’t think."

Kelsie counted out some money to give him.

As the bartender scrambled for change, she waved her aside with the words, "It’s fine. I parked outside, is it possible to help me help him into the car."

"Of course, ma’am!" He was already elated with the huge tip and didn’t twice before helping her.

Kelsie thanked him for the help before driving away.

On the way, she glanced at Jett through the rear view mirror, her brows furrowed into a tight frown.

What was this proud man doing drinking for an entire day?

Though she hadn’t been on her phone all day, she doubted anything happened to Adler Group. If something did happen, it’d be the talk of the town.

That she heard nothing only means such a thing didn’t happen.

Then what was it? It was his grandfather’s birthday in a few days. Could it be... something happened to him?

Realizing she’d only wear herself out with the numerous unanswered questions, she stopped thinking and kept driving until she got to the apartment building.

The security was a few minutes walk away and being too tired to make that journey, she struggled to pull him out of the car herself.

She had just done so when she lost her balance and staggered backward with him.

At this sudden and rapid movement, Jett’s eyes snapped open, his survival instinct kicking in as he quickly grabbed the falling figure in front of him.

When his eyes fell on her face, his dull eyes bloomed into a bright smile.

"It’s you... my darling."

"I guess. Let’s go in now." Kelsie returned his smile, attempting to hold him up again when he cupped her face with both palms and drew her closer to himself.

"Don’t go."

Kelsie blinked.

Affection was one of the many areas she was lacking. So even if she knew what he meant, she was at a loss for words and mummed dumbly, "It’s too cold to stay outside with you and I need to be inside with my... our children,"

Jett grinned and gently patted her face. "If you really have to go, take me with you."

"You’d go to my apartment?"

"Take me."

Kelsie was perplexed for a moment before she nodded and held him properly.

Together, they staggered inside.

As this happened, someone watched them from the roof with a microscope, eyes dimming as they pressed a phone tighter to their ear.

"There’s a problem. Kelsie and Jett Adler seems to have something stronger going on. If we touch her again, that’ll be us going against Jett Adler. I think we should hold off for now."

A mocking laughter came from the other end almost immediately, prompting them to take the phone away from their ear.

"What a fool you are! Don’t you feel ashamed of yourself. You failed to kill her once, yes. But you should learn from your mistake and be more cautious not step back and abandon your mission, you fool!"

"Get her on a plane and bomb it or burn down the apartment building when you’re certain she’s inside, I really don’t care what you do as long as she’s dead."

"And one more thing. Those little vermins of hers, get rid of them as well."
